  1. Thanks for the advice. I do have to take the maintenance issue into consideration as I am not one to update a vintage piece internally myself. I am only interested in 2 channel, the HK 3490 does have phono inputs and both claim to put out about 110 to 120 wpc. I prefer vintage, I have an older twin powered HK 730 with a pair of A/D/S L-8e's and love the sound in a bedroom set up. I am looking to replace a Denon AVR 3082 in my main set up, as I no longer care about home theatre, just music. The Pioneer SX 1010 or HK 3490 are what I have narrowed it down to...and I just can't get past the quality craftmanship of the vintage for the money spent. If I could find a refurbished Pioneer all cleaned up I would probably jump at it. Is this HK 3490 a middle of the road piece, or lower end? The reviews are great, and I'm assuming HK have not lost their quality over the years? I'm still holding that coin! Unfortunately both are not an option at present...maybe someday.
  2. I am going back and forth. I have Ebay watches on two receivers that interest me, one new and one from the 1970's. The new is a Harman Kardon 3490 and the vintage is a Pioneer SX-1010. I've read lots of older posts, both items are in high regard. I will be using the receiver I choose with a pair of Klipsch KG 4.2 speakers. Any advice to steer me? I am at the point of a coin toss to decide. If there is a better choice or opinion I'll listen! Thanks.
  3. Thanks Dylani for your suggestions. When you first discover new speakers, it's just nice to get some input from previous users.
  4. I've only owned one old fisher tube amplifier, and I wish I had it now. What tube amp would you suggest Colin?
  5. Thanks Roger. I am anxious to give the Nakamichi a whirl with these speakers.
  6. I have tried the HK 730, the NAD 317 and the Denon AVR-3802 with KG 4.2 speakers. I am trying to convince myself that the NAD and HK sound better...but I keep plugging the Denon back in for another whirl. Somebody tell me I'm out of my mind! I have not yet tried the NAK TA-3A. I've read older posts that certain amps just aren't meant for horns, for instance Carver amps of the 1980's were not recommended. Tubes sound good, and modern digital receivers as well...which I need a clear definition of. Is my Denon AVR-3802 considered a digital receiver? Is NAD in a category with Carver as possibly being too harsh for Klipsch speakers? The HK just didn't sound crisp, the NAD was on the brighter side in my listening. I also have a Marantz 1060 in another set up that might work with the KG's. Too many amps, too little time... I know it's what sounds best to me ultimately, but these speakers have been around for quite a few years now and I would like to hear what some forum members have used to drive them. Thanks!

  8. Hi all, new to the community and my first post. I just aquired a pair of Oak clr. KG 4.2 speakers and I love them. I currently have a Denon AVR-3802 matched with them and I love the sound, but I have other power sources available and I would really appreciate any experience and advice for the following as potential matches for these speakers: Harman Kardon 730, Marantz 1060, NAD 317, Nakamichi TA-3A, or stick with the Denon. Thanks in advance, I'm looking forward to the replies!
