  1. i am having the same problem. of course as in this thread: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/79936.aspx mine not only pops but also sometimes registering the volume at maximum randomly. i am also using it as computer speaker, but i use the 3.5mm jack from the sub instead of the fock. at first i think it is the dock issue, but then I dismantled the subwoofer and try to 'wiggle' the parts, it actually helps (not yet solved though). it used to refuse to turn on, now I only got it pops occassionally.
  2. well it's not funny how I used to post my ifi works fine and now it's in deepsh*t just like you guys. mine kept shutting itself off at random times (blame the dock). and often it just set itself at highest volume and only sounds at left satellites. ocassionally the dock would turn off, means no light and no control thru buttons and remote but the music is playing (3.5mm line in behind sub). Now the dock just often just refuse to turn on, after many unplugging attempts. Btw I also opened up the sub and dock, as far as I can tell there is no obvious sign of damage... Anyone?
  3. i'm not sure if the ifi dock uses 5V, but i remember someone mentioned it when drawing the pinout diagram. anyway, there are 'converter' that supposedly work with older ipod docks like iFi. http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/reviews/entry/griffin-charge-converter-firewire-to-usb-for-iphone-and-ipod/ http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/news/comments/ridax-offering-iphone-3g-charge-converter/
  4. for starters, you can take a look at the electrical wiring on your power strips on your PC and its equipments. if you have a 3-pin plug equipment that is only connected as 2-pin, it is probably the culprit. if you need help, i'm pretty sure one of your friends will be able to help, it's very simple. i have verified this: my laptop has 3pin plug, when i use travel adapter or some sort which will result in 2 pin (minus 1 ground/earth pin), whenever the speaker is plugged into the laptop it will hiss or buzz. same goes with my desktop PC, if the chassis or the LCD 3-pin plug is replaced with 2-pin, it will buzz furthermore the chassis gave me some electric shock. btw, for the PC speakers they do not require grounding at all, that's why they come in 2-pin plug only.
  5. when you touch the audio jacks or some metal the 'hissing' is gone? it's more of a 'grounding' / 'earthing' loop problem i guess. you may have to rewire your computer systems so all the ground line is not open. to verify this, you can try to plug the PM4.1 in other power socket, and use your mp3/cellphone to play music on either jack. regarding the cushion whoopie, i have no idea what it is.
  6. it seems like your soundcard had some wrong configuration. are you running realtek sound? if it's then realtek has a "connector retasking" which needs to be configured first in control panel.
  7. hey all, although i have been running the ifi for more than a year fine, recently it has developed similar sign. so i was watching a DVD. it kept turning itself off. i switched off the main power supply for that speaker and turn it back on. still no heal. and i got fed up so i disconnected the dock from the ifi, disconnect ac cable. and connect the ac cable alone. turn it on. (ifi doesnt sound since it's off) and i disconnect the electric cable. plug the dock back and it's working fine for a month, and increasing. disconnect ifi dock, turn on ifi without dock. disconnect power, connect dock back on. maybe it helps. edit: what i mean by disconnect the AC cable is that you have to disconnect the AC cable from the rear of the subwoofer, preferably 5-10 seconds. this makes difference. same things i faced with my logitech z cinema speakers. i had to disconnect the AC cable in order to "reset" it.
  8. it's much easier to replace broken terminal than dealing with the faulty docks as many users are facing. however, installing the new terminal can be a trick due to the fact that the terminal are surrounded by ifi amplifier inside the subwoofer. if you've opened it you'll realize that you will have to dismantle lots of parts to install the new terminal. how about some 'tricks' to press the wire so its locked securely instead of installing new terminal?
  9. sigh, it seems like the wired polarity have been inverted accidentally that the wires start to overheat. either way, i think it cant be 'fixed' properly. u can try to seal it with something though.
  10. well in fact i do not own a GMX D5.1 before, only own a similar GMX A2.1 so u mean the noise is gone when u purchased a new satellites? well if it's it means your satellite is faulty. im not really experienced in this kind of thing so maybe let's hear from some gurus.
  11. it's glued. but also don't forget there is one hidden screw behind the klipsch sticker.
  12. well after some readings on the neighbour thread, having an ifi myself im getting worried about the longevity of the speaker. generally speaking, it's one of best PC and iPod speaker given the price. If the ifi decides to break down, i don't think i can find suitable replacement for my PC. Previously, before upgrading to ifi, i own a Klipsch GMX, it was also value for the money but seeing many of them dies, i upgraded to ifi which have less complaints. from the beginning of using the ifi early this year, i never touched the mute button, and rarely increases or decreases volume button using the wheel. only when setting the bass to max each time i turned it on. as for the rest, RF remote does the job. so, here i am, i hope some of you ifi owners don't mind sharing whether yours is fine or not. I'm pretty sure even though there are many failure, surely there are even more that are fine out there. p.s. as i got my ifi from ebay, i found something weird inside the subwoofer. im not sure what it's called, but it's paralleled to one of the wire and yellow thingy on the"power filter" beside the toroidal transformer. however, as of now my ifi have not shown any symptoms of diseases.
