  1. So int he midst of trying to find a new affordable tv stand to fit all of my equipment i had had to put everything back in my current stand. Unfortunately with this said, i am getting signal interference in my RCA's between my UMC-1 and XPA-5. The cord lengths are 15 feet and when connected you here like a high pitch whine thats pretty quiet but in a silent room is easily heard. I troubleshot the system yesterday too and layed everything out nice and openly and i didnt get any interference, now that everything is back together the issue persists. Everything, all my compoinents are hooked up into my APC G rated conditioner/surge supressor and is connected to a single outlet, this was to prevent ground loops and ensure they were prevented. Unfoprtunately for me right now, my UMC-1 and XPA-5 are about 8 feet apart and the signal wiures pass from the right to the left behind the tv. My umc-1 is on the right side and the power conditiuoner is on the left with dvd player, cable box, modem, router, tv is plugged in too. The power cord to the APC is connected to an outlet on the wall to the left of the XPA-5. Im trying to take the greatest care in sepertating my power wires from the signal wires but i suppose im not doing that ghreat of a job. Speaker wires are considered a power wire correct? Any suggestions? Ill take pictures when i get home tonight but i figured i'd pop the questions now

  2. a piece of furniture with a stand on the back is a great idea, i just cant decide wheather or not i wanna go that route. It would give me the room for the center to be on the top which is a better location too. i'll go and check out the bello stuff, i also have a a huge window behind the tv so mounting it to the wall isnt an option unfortunately

  3. i need some HT furniture suggestions. Specifically i am looking for a new TV stand. It has to be able to fit my emotiva XPA-5 in it and must be wood construction, or wood veneer. I dont like the all glass and metal stands, no a/v racks either. I got a 46" flat and i am trying to eliminate the use of a audio rack since space is a bit more limited iod rather just use my stand. thoughts? Also maybe something that has a place to fit a larger center channel.

  4. i had to do some furniture arranging as well, not too happy about that. the xpa-5 is 80 or 85 lb's, yeah, i know what your saying, muscling it around trying not to hurt yourself at the same time of not trying to destroy your back. I think im going to try to buy some shorter cords, around 6 foot, maybe a smaller gauge wire too and a thinner HDMI but i also want to find an inclusive tv stand as in it will for sure fit all of my equipment whicvh amounts to a processor, amp, blueray player, game cube, ps2, cable box, power conditioner/surge protector and to fit it all with clearences to let the equipment breathe, o yeah, did i mention i want it in espressor haha

  5. Wow is all i have to say. As i have been building my system and upgrading and trying different things, i have learned these things:

    • Long cords suck
    • Thick cables are nice in theory but suck when it comes to bending them in cabinets
    • Never choose cords longer than they should be, buy for your situation at hand and not those "what if situations"
    • Check to make sure you cabinets can fit your equipment, yeah, the emotiva XPA-5 is a monster
    • Don't hastily purchase audio/visual furniture on craigslist, sometimes its worth buying exactly what you like brand new
    • It is almost impossible to keep signal cords seperate from power cords
    • There are just too many cords to begin with but hardwiring is the best way to go
    • Each piece of equipment somehow has a remote attached to it, I feel as if im drowning in remotes at times
    • Buy what you really want first time out or somthing comperable, it will save you from the upgrade bug that hits almost immediately

I think thats pretty much my list so far. I basically have been through buying a junky/nice looking audio pier off craigslist thats really just too big for my space and isnt big enough to properly fit the emotiva XPA-5, i bought the premium RCA and HDMI cords from monoprice in long 15ft lengths because i was unsure what my setup would be, i was having some distortion in my speakers from signal/power crossover and i couldnt figure out what was wrong with my system so i had to trouble shoot and tore the whole thing apart, alas it works but its on my coffee table and not in its place. I bought and RF-10 HT set and they sound great but just dont have enough presence so i found a good deal on RF-3 II's and bought them, i can't use the sub because im in an APT and yeah, haha. O man.

I can only assume that my story sounds familar to many. Any suggestions on good places to get good AV furniture thats well priced and any suggestions on well priced, smaller sized HDMI cords and RCA signal cords. I like monoprice, great price, what do you all think?

  6. not a problem. Most of my experience has been with receivers. I have never had any issues with my receivers, some are more complicated to setup settings in but other than that, picture quality has always been good, same with the amps. I nevber was in a situation where i could pump the speakers becsause they were always too small and would blow. To me, the emotiva was a bit of a splurge but i feel like i bought a solid product and hopefully it will perform in a way that i can see a difference between my receivers and a component processor/amp setup. I don't consider myself to be a true audiophile but i do consider myself one to an extend of where i believe in doing things right and buying quality products that will last me years to come. I follow the motto that you can buy 1 very good thing or spend more money and buy 5 "eh" things over the years. Check out outlaw audio, parasound, marantz, these are common high fidelity componays to buy speakers/audio components from, all with varying price ranges.

  7. I have never heard a tube amp i have only had solid states but this is what people generally say. If you are a true audiophile, analog is the way to go for crisp warm sound. A good tube amp will cost you, a higher powered tube amp will cost you even more. Good thing is that klipsch speaker have a high sensitivity and don't need much power to push them. Solid states are digital and witht hat you get something you dont with tubes, good power at a cheaper price. Its a preference of sound in the end, the warm crisp sound of a tube amp or a solid state. Each manufacturer makes their amps a different way and they all produce a different sound, both tube and solid state. Some are brighter and cleaner than other.

I have an emotiva UMC-1 and have only used it for about a day since i just got it. So far its not bad I havent really had a chance to explore its full capabilities but the quality appears to be there. Some people have had issues with theirs with the current update, i haven't updated mine yet. I am getting an XPA-5 which was backordered, it has 200 watts a channel and enough overhead to power a majority of speakers both klipsch and not. What i like about them is they are selling an amp that will give you a minimum of 200 watts a channel, its not like most amps/receivers where they say its 100w a channel but when you run all channels you actually only getting like 50watts per channel. That is why i chose emotiva, that and the price was right. A quality product at a good price. I have only heard good things about their amps. Amps should last for years upon years which makes them good as a component, you should get your money's worth. Preamp/processors, well, they will get outdated as new connectors comne out and new sound formats and will eventually need to be upgraded so in a way, its good to splurge on a quality preamp/processors and otherways not. I think emotiva makes a processor at a good price, i will use mine for years to come. Thias is the reason why i like seperates over a receiver, only half the setup really needs to be upgraded over the years as the amps usually, if taken care of will last years and years.

Hope my input has helped, you have alot of options.

  8. So i picked up a paid of RF-3 II's for 250 bux, in pristine condition, i couldnt be happier, the difference between the rf-10's and the rf-3's is huge. I listened to just stereo and you can tell the voices have more autority and it doesnt sound like any music is missing. Witht he rf-10's you could hear the music was light on everything, both sound cystal clear but the larger cones really benefit music all around. As for the lower bass extension, i havent tested that yet but im looking forward. I do however feel that i may need to upgrade the center, maybe try to score and rc-3 II to match the towers. When that is done ill either give the speakers to my sis to borrow while shes out here going to school or ill just hock them on craigslist. Overall, very happy and i think i got an awesome price too!

  9. you wont be disappointed with the quality of any of klipsch's products except for a few of their computer speaker sets which i bought and was unhappy with the quality, great sound, just quality of the amp and connections were kinda junky. Any of klipsch's component speakers are great quality, you'll have great clear sound. Don't hesitate to ask any questions, this website is the best place for info on klipsch, there are many different view points and opinions on here so it'll help you make decisions in the long term. Good luck. make sure you buy brand new from authorized klipsch retailers too, you want to have thw warranty just in case.

  10. i actually posted a thread abou that not too long ago, i decided that i would forgo bass shakers. i think for my setup i might just try to sell the towers and the sub and buy larger towers and a larger center, with that ill have more presence, lower bass extension ans no need for a sub right now

  11. Id say, start with your local craigslist, you can get alot of great deals on there for klipsch speakers both heritage and brand new. This is the best way to get the best bang for your buck. I got the RF-10 surround system and denon receiver for 400bux and in pretty much pristine condition. What i can suggest you do is invest in a decent receive, something with HDMI ports and some update video processing. The klipsch quintet is a great set, although it doesnt come with a sub, it will need it since there is no low end on those speakers, they will however be better than the tv 100 fold. The hd 500 is a great little set too, that will blow away your tv speakers but then again almost anything will. I think it will be a good place for you to start, you can get a good receiver for 400 and they will be able to power the sattelites without an issue. This is of course you go the full retail route, but like i said, craigslist will get you your bang for your buck if you dont mind some used equipment. Also remeber, people that buy klipsch tend to take care of them, always be warey though!

  12. you are all under the assumption that i am cranking my system. I am well aware of the sound proofing...i did apt leasing for some time. Right now, my sub is basically shooting waves directly onto the floor (its not downfiring but the waves still bounce) since its sitting on the floor and where the waves emerge they are strongest. These rf-10's have no low end and a sub is pretty much needed to get any lows. I dont crank my system, i try to be considerate hence im trying to solve the issue. I already have my sub gain turned down so that i still get the low end but its not shaking the walls. Im trying to optomize what i have so that i dont bother neighbors but also makes me happy as well. The sound proofing in my apt is decent, its better than my last apt. I have an old guy living below me, hes not very personable to begin with, at move in i introduced my gf and myself and just ignored us.

  13. the celing height is going to kill the sound a but, in my parents house, we have catherdral celings in our family room and its about a 15x20 ft room, the hardest part acoustically is the celing to deal with. In your case, its great you have a sub and a receiver chosen, i would concentrate on a damned good center channel. The RC-62 would be a good choice for you but the RC-64 would be the best. I would say take some time and build the system up to make sure you do it the right way and make it so you dont waste any money. Your Left and Right channels are important too, i prefer floorstanding over bookshelfs, the bass output is different between the two, floorstanders have more authority.

To put it into perspective for you, i have the RF-10 setup, i live in an apt, the rf-10's have a good sound but lack authority, the rf-52's have cones that are only an inch larger in diameter than what i have, the RF-62's would do you better in a room of the size you have, RF-82's being better. I wont even suggest the RF-63 or 83 since those would blow your budget and it doesnt sound to me that you need that audiophile of equipment.

Check out craigslist, i got my rf-10 setup and denon receiver for $400, retail the setup would cost probably around 1500-1600, it would gently used, sounds great and i didnt pay full price which wasnt an option.

  14. Hey all, well, i pulled a move my mom would do to my dad all the time, rearrange the furniture while he was at work....well, i did it to my gf, we are "testing it out" right now. I have the new layout, the old layout and the layout from my previousd apt with my old tv...notice how the tv's have gotten larger. I also have a really brigt window behind the setup, i am in AZ so i bought some suntex 80 solar screen, i just cut it and im hanging it now, you can see the sun through the blinds, my goal is to have it so i can have the blinds open and not have my equipment destroyed, ill take another pic so i can show a comparison.

Now for the advice portion. I am in a second floor apt this sub rumble is an issue. I was thinking of making or buying a stand for the sub so its up off the floor and just high enough to shoot over the coffee table. I am getting an XPA-5 and my media stand is just too small for it i think so i was going to put the amp below it so it gets good thorough ventilation. I also was thinking of lifting the towers off the ground too since its got a rear port near the floor. Advice? I dont care that there is bass i just dont want it vibrating the floor as it comes out, in theory i suppose, having it up off the floor will help. Also, i need to raise my tv too since the cneter channel blocks the bottom of the tv, any ideas for a cheap fix, no phonebooks, its gotta look nice!

  15. see, we let other country know of our toys and they start making scale models of them......not happy about this haha. That is the koolest rc plane i have ever seen, the fact that it has real turbine engines too, im dumbfounded someone actually was able to make that.

  16. twistedcrankcammer - u are right about the contracts, try proving a verbal agreement...same arguement, its not worth fighting over in a case like that. Your idea of the business model of "its just good business" is the new model for business, that is why there are no more 25 yr vets in business, out with the old in with the new, cheap unexperienced labor, customer comes second..its just good business. Also, keep in mind, i can cancel y order or return my items anyways...so what you are saying is even after i paid it they could just say sorry, we are sending your product to someone else becayse he has the black amex. Businesses can really do what ever they want to their customer barring illegal activities, alot of activities which would aggrevate many customers to not be a repeat. If you like to stay in business, its in your best interest to act ethically, i took many a business class where ethical business practices came up. What emotiva did/is doing to me is far far far from the most unethical thing they could do to me, its just something that makes me feel like they dont want my business, and that i am second class to someone else.

Winchester - your philosphy is a breath of fresh air since so many businesses have lost the mom/pop feel. I am very a man of my word, i say i wil do something, i do it, i believe it makes for good business and barring an unfortunate incident, i do what i say.

O yeah, i did buy a sony..at bestbuy, TV that is and they are holding it for me for pickup when i arrive, fully paid for :)

  17. well, its the fact that i called and they said they would hold my items for me, the whole premise behind me doing this early was to ensure i got the products i needed during the timeframe that i have to work with. I was under the impression that they would charge my card as soon as i ordered but i called and checked after a couple of days after i didnt see anything on my cc. I am working with the issues since i cant do much else but its a matter of, they are doing half of what they said they would do, it would have been nice to have had a headsup about this in the beginning. I know im fortunute enough as is that they are doing this for me but i would have liked to have seen them go a little bit further. They have done great so far, everyone has been a great help and is very personable.

Keep in mind, the CC was authorized already to be run and whatnot, all of my info is in their hands, as far as I am concerned, as soon and i got confirmation of that, my intent to purchase was complete.

  18. Ok, so i put an order in to emotiva for a umc-1 and xpa-5. I wont be in town to receive the package so i told them to hold my order and ship it out in about a week, i ordered everything about a week ago. Keep in mind, they dont bill me until they ship it out too. I get a call yesterday that they ran out of UMC-1's and they'll ship them out a day or 2 after i get back in town so ill only get the XPA-5. Now, don't get me wrong, i don't think im out of line or anything but, why would they not hold my product after having my cc and everything waiting for the transaction to be processes all well knowing that i want the product. I am now waiting for the product longer than i should while someone else gets "my" umc-1. I can understand them shipping out early if it was like "please hold it for me but i dont wanna pay yet" but i sent in everything and my CC was authorized for payment already. My gripe with it is that i will actually physically be home to sign for the packages since i'll be off work and now one will come while im at work and the leasing office will hold and sign for the package or itll go to the shipper for pickup. Ethically right? Am i in the wrong? Bad business practice? Just wanna get an idea of what you all think. Not trying to bad mouth emotiva but i just wanna rant a lil.

  19. bwahaha i agree, my downstairs enighbor isnt very personable, doesnt really seem to care that we are alive but...he will. If he was gone and i knew it, id crank it. my old neighbors hear the beginning of transformers through their floor clear as day and that was just with a sony HTIAB
