  1. Way Cool. Just what I was looking for. I can try this with no foul. If it doesn't work nothing lost. Put it back to stock. Anyone thought about doing this mod along with a cornscala xover?
  2. I am ready to start now. I picked up a set of LaScala's today. So the final question, would you tear apart the LaScala's for the cornscala's, or modify the Lascala's? I like the sound of the LaScala's, but the bottom end is just a bit shy of what I really want. Anyone ever try and convert a LaScala cabinet to a cornscala cabinet?
  3. I probably wouldn't use the xover, but those selenium d220ti's have some really good reviews. Many people seem to like the alot. What about using the altec 811 horn in the corsncalas - opinions?
  4. I am looking at that horn too. What is it made of? Aluminum, plastic???? IS it a sturdy horn? I am looking at this for my cornscalas http://cgi.ebay.com/H4427-SeleniumD220Ti-High-pass-Xover-Kit_W0QQitemZ350283493159QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item518e85ef27
  5. Hey Folks, I happened upon a set of speakers to day that are similar in dsign to the LaScala's. I have a set of Crites Crossovers for the cornscallas coming. I was wondering if anyone here has tried instally the cornscala xover in a set of LaScalas. If yes, what happens? How does it sound? My understanding is that the drivers are identical in both units so that should work. Thoughts?
  6. Hey Herb and others, I do have one more option. I have a set of 511b altec horns. I could use these ase the mid horn with the atlas drivers. THoughts? Also, does anyone have a preference on the mid drivers - something other than the atlas'?
  7. Hey folks, I have a few questions. I went ahead and bought a set of the crites ct-125 tweets. Does anyone know what the specs are on this little guy? Specifically what is the spl? I was thinking(now instead of earlier) and remembered I had a set of selenium D210-ti drivers and a set of nice selenium horns. I looked up the specs and the selenium driver claims to go from 800 to 20k with an spl of 107db. The graph looks pretty flat from about 4.5k to about 12k and drops off to maybe 100db at 20k. Bob Crites xovers are designed with a 4.5k xover pont when using his tweets. These selenium drivers look really nice, any thoughts on using them instead of crites tweets in the build? BTW - the TI designation in the selenium tweets is for titanium - just in cse you didn't know. I really like my highs to be clean and pronounced, I have read where some people like the k77's over the crites because the extra harshness seem to give some people better clarity. I think I would likely be one of those folks. So, any thoughts? Also, I have found a website that has a lot of choices of veneers for the cabinets. Anybody use these guys? http://www.veneersupplies.com/default.php?cPath=51_75
  8. Thanks for the feedback folks! My original plan was to build a set of these using the components from a set of corner horns that I have. I emailed back and forth with Bob Crites and wound up buying his crossover and the ct125 tweets for the job. I had planned on using the mid horns/drivers and the woofs from the khorns. I am not familiar with the Fastrac Horns. Can you comment on what your opinon of the these were as compared to the stock klipsch horns? As to the drivers, I do have a set of selenium d210ti drivers that are new as well - any suggestions as to which might be better suited for the job? I think these selenium drivers would not likely go low enough in their response to be adequate as a mid driver. I like the shape of your cabinets and will likely duplicate that. I might add the 1.5" kicker box on the bottom though. Time for me to look up jwc and see what he has for plans. TTYL Mark
  9. Thanks for the link. So any particular reason you prefer these? This looks like a vedry simple build. It appears that the internal volume of the cabinet is a bit larger than the cornscalas - correct? That would probably cut some efficiency and give you a little better bass - correct? Any more info you have on these would be appreciated. mark
  10. Hello everyone, I am brand new to the forum. I have been lurking for awhile and fairly active over at audiokarma. I am about to build my first set of speakers. I decided to build a set of cornscalas. My decision was based on multiple reads and the fact that I have a set of Khorns. These are my second set of Khorns actually. I love the sounds of the mids/highs, but getting the bass right in my home with the size of rooms and the layout of the house has proven to be very difficult. The current set of Khorns I found really cheap on the local craigs list and the cabinets need some attention. I have emailed back and forth with Bob Crites and finally ordered the crossover and the ct125 tweeters for the CornScalas. So I now I need to firm up some actual design plans. I have read every thread I could find on this forum and from google too. I can build these with the differnt information I have found. Does anyone have a set of plans that are tried and proven? I plan to update this thread as I build and make progress. I'll post pics, problems, and ideas. If anyone has ideas they would like to share about a design, please let me know. I am in the design phase of the cabinets now. My current thoughts will be to follow pretty much the parameters posted on Bob's website - at least for the bass box. Probably a second box on top for the horns. Finished with a nice walknut veneer and some of the black klipsch cloth. SO hello it is and wish me luck. Mark - aka JCricket
