  1. Stack 'em! Wow---never thought of that! Do I dare try it? Has anybody on here done that? Would you put the top one upside down, so the tweeters are close together? Hmmmm
  2. Thanks so much for the advice! I have 2 pairs of Scalas right now---in all 4 corners of my living room. Was gonna sell one pair....but I love them both! They both date from 1976---one is the industrial black and the other is beautiful wood. Which is better: steak or roast beef? Cant decide!
  3. I have a pair of Industrial LaScalas (black, not split) and would like to get at the woofers. I assume you access them from the bottom--am I right? Is there anything I need to know about unhooking them? One of them seems to have developed a rattle on certain low organ notes, and I want to check it. Thanks!
  4. All of your comments were very helpful; I thank you all for taking the time to help me. Sending a special thanks to speakerfritz! --Tom
  5. lowest stuff I run through the system would be some pipe organ cds---no movies I like to run them at the level you would hear live; thats one of the things I love about the Scalas---they play loud without distortion...and...they sound electrostatic at low levels!
  6. I recently bought a pair of "professional" LaScalas (the black ones with the handles), and I'm using a Yamaha RXV2090 receiver with them. The Yamaha has a feature called "bass extension", which adds 7 db at 70 Hz. I have been using that feature, and I love how the Scalas sound with the added bass boost. My question is: could use of that boost cause problems for the woofer? I have been told probably not by a couple of Klipsch authorities, but I would love to get the opinions of some of you. Many thanks!
  7. Ah-Ha! A pic is truly worth a thousand words! Thanks very much, Islander!
  8. Many thanks for the explanation. I'm gonna have to read that over few times!
  9. I have had my 1979 Scalas for a few weeks now, and I love 'em---no updates yet--don't feel the need for any so far. Could someone tell me how the woofer works? Does it fire into the "V" and then out the space in the back? Its a bit of a mystery to me. Thanks.
  10. Don, my thanks to you and all who responded!
  11. Yes, as you suggest, I will try to rearrange things to accommodate shorter ics. My system -at the moment, anyway-is Modsquad passive dual volume linedrive (Steve M. modified); Janis crossover; Acoustat TNT 200 modified by Jim Strickland----and---my beloved LaScalas---and a couple of subwoofers made by a friend inside round builders tubes (sound awesome!)
  12. No, actually I mean between my active crossover and my amp---I was using some old Kimber and Monster, but with my new setup neither is long enough anymore.
  13. I need almost 4 meters of interconnect cables that will let my LaScalas continue to sound good. What do you guys like? I dont have a lot of $$ to spend on this.... Thanks.
  14. I will call them today and order their cable, based on your recommendation. If its at least as good as Anti-Cable, but easier to work with, I'll be happy! Many thanks to you and all the others!
  15. Loved the Rodriguez cartoons in the old Stereo Review---thanks for sharing that one!
  16. Planning to move my LaScalas to another room and will need longer wire. I've been using Speltz Anti-Cable, and I love it...but...is there something just as good but cheaper out there? Monoprice oxygen-free maybe? In the past, I've used lamp cord, Home Depot, WalMart extension (not bad), solid core silver (too bright), etc. I would love some recommendations! Thanks!
  17. One of Bob Crites' suggestions for me is to replace the crossover with the one that drops it from 6000 to 4500, and his 125 tweeter; I think i will do that---the word "sweet" was used above to describe his new tweeter response---I like that word----I want mine to be sweet too! Thanks again to all.
  18. After I get to know the Scalas a little better, I'm sure I will go for Bob's x-over too. I'm hoping that changeover, plus maybe his tweeter, will remove that bit of shrillness I hear on some recordings. Right now there are original AAs in there. My thanks to all who have responded to me!
  19. I've had my all original 1979 Scalas for 2 weeks now; I absolutely love 'em...but...I'm wondering if it would be useful to change out that white wire that looks like ordinary lamp cord! Would appreciate some advice; what would anyone recommend? Maybe I should just leave it the way it is! I will eventually go for new Crites crossover and maybe tweeter...but not yet. Thanks, Tom, Albany NY
