  1. Lammers,

I was just talking about the sparse crossover that was type A and going back to simplicity. All they had for the tweeter was a 2uf cap and no choke on the squawker.

Has nobody that has done this mod thought there was any blurriness in the crossover area? I would think you would want a steep slope to keep the two different time domains of the tweeter and squawker from interfering with each other over a wide range. Wish I could hear the outcome since maybe the steep slopes are actually what cause me to notice the time alignment issues in the first place. They might blend better with the 6db cross.

  2. Lammers,

Was that like the 'A' network that the schematics were for?

I did notice that the 'A' did not have any choke on the mid so that would help eat some of the highs away from the tweeter. Just figured that the nicer/cleaner it sounds, the louder it goes... Check and see if the sound stays coherent at crossover from the mid to tweeter due to timing issues between the drivers distances.

Actually, I liked Filmofreddy's idea of the time delay on the tweeter. I bet that did really clean things up at crossover.

  3. Q-man, as far as the little clip, just have a soldering iron available.

I recently was working on a way to bi-amp my KLF-30s and when I hooked up an active crossover to the mid/tweeter, I was surprised to see really how much power the high frequency section really needed. At around 1 watt, it was very loud (my modified KLF is around 99-100Db vs 104Db for k-horn). Unless you listen at very loud levels or have a very large room, the circuit probably doesn't even get used let alone burning out the tweeter. But you are right about the sound. I had owned a couple of pair of late 70's and early 80's k-horns (AA x-over) and thought the sound was very good minus their roughness in the mids. Not as much sibilance as I used to hear with my KLFs.

  4. Parts Express has some nice JBL Pro Bi-radial horns and Titanium drivers. A wee bit expensive but...

If you visit the JBLPro site, you will see the response of those drivers drops off with in the very high frequencies with the Bi-Radial horns. If you wanted to have have a nice two way system without the shimmering highs, which I have a hard time handling, those would probably work out very nicely. Some might opt for equalization though.
