  1. it is late, and it is a cold winter nIght but... MY "NEW" CRAIGSLIST FORTE IIs ARE IN THE HOUSE! sorry for shouting...i got a wee bit excited...[<)]
  2. "From the labels, the S/Ns are 005293746 and 005293747." care to decipher? built in 2000? 52nd week? any other info from the serial numbers? thanks in advance.
  3. there is a local craigslist offering but "both passive radiators are pushed in to some degree". will such an event really affect the sound? is that an easy fix for a newbie like myself? if there are no cracks in the radiators, do i care? since i haven't figured out how to post an image, i can email anyone who is interested a pix of one of the pushed in radiators. last item of interest, they are ugly black-so very sad-[*-)] thanks for any and all thoughts you care to share.
  4. i'll confess. yup, it was me. in fact, i managed to get a comment earlier today, they thanked me for playing ray charles! ymmv
  5. thanks all for the "atta boy, you'll gettum next time". i'm a patient guy, so i'll keep sniffing, reading these forums and learning. for those who asked, i'm in the new york city metro area in the northern most corner of the five boros along the hudson river. i am willing to drive 100+ miles to take a look/pickup-maybe more for a "deal". i'm particularly interested in cornwalls, forte IIs and maybe chorus IIs. (i'm not trying to sound too particular but it will take a delightful speaker to move me from the kg4s.) again, thanks for the pat on the back. happy new year to you all. be well rob
  6. i am very new to this forum. i signed up a week ago to pursue a crosstown craigslister who had a pair of cornwalls for sale. one of you very kind and knowledge klipsch folks deciphered the code numbers and identified the cornwalls as likely to be a cornwall 1.5. unfortunately, even though i did my research and managed to get pre-buy wife approval to take up additional living space that my present well thought of kg4s would give way to the much larger footprint of the cornwall 1.5s, even with all of that being accomplished, i was informed by the seller this evening the cornwalls were no longer available. did he sell them to another interested party? did he have a change of mind? did his nephew somehow convince his uncle to keep the cornwalls "in the family". who knows the reason, the bottom line is: i'm not going to get to listen to those cornwalls in my living room. darn. double darn. that said, i have come away from this experience more knowledgable about klipsch speakers and the marvelous resources available for these wonderful sounding classics. now i'm hunger for another shot at a cornwall or maybe a forte II. thanks to all who added to the conversation with info and support. be well rob
  7. i'm a newbie who has been very pleased with his kg4s. someone on the other side of town is selling his cornwalls 1.5s. i have not seen nor heard any cornwall speaker. i'm interested because the speakers seem to be a good value, a decent step-up from the kg4s and they are local. the seller sent me over some pix. one speaker has a heavily stained grill cloth. can the grill cloths be "replaced"? is that an easy repair? i imagine i should replace the grill cloths on both speakers so they look similar. thoughts? any and all info would be great. be well rob
  8. noah- glad it worked out for u. big thumbs up [H] i found out from the owner of the cornwall 1.5s that there is a big stain on the grill cloth of one speaker. (the cabinets are supposed to be in great shape). is replacing the grill cloth an easy, do-able repair? i imagine i should probably replace both grill cloths, don't you think? i am scheduled to see/hear the 1.5s on thursday morning. how would u "road test" the cornwalls? i have my favorite cds that i'd like to listen to but i thought since most of you good folks "know" what a cornwall should sound like, perhaps i should continue to draw upon this forum's collective experience (and wisdom! [8-|]) thanks in advance for any and all thoughts be well rob
  9. seadog- thanks for sharing your thoughts i spent part of the morning measuring the dimensions of the cornwalls and imagining them in place of the kg4s. they are going to take some real estate! i'm hoping to get my first look and listen later this week. fingers crossed that these are a worthy pair and fingers crossed that my wife remains patient! be well rob
  10. stormin'- "cornwall occult" thanks for chiming in with your thoughts. are u suggestion a form of "group think" or something worse, ala "kool aid"? [8-|] anyone else with an opinion? be well rob
  11. noah and all- again, thanks for sharing your thoughts. i am heartened to learn that my interest in the local cornwall might be a cornwall 1.5 and that is a preferred model. having neither heard nor seen a cornwall, i am looking forward to a possible audition. i fear that i might have to decide yea or nay without a listening if the cornwalls for sale are no longer hooked up. an additional concern is about an aspect oft mentioned in this thread: size. my listening area is an "L" shaped living room measuring 25' long but only 12' wide. unfortunately the cornwalls would need to be placed along the length and thus might be too much for such a short (12') throw. thoughts? this space is in an apartment, so volumne is usually moderate, maybe a tad loud when the toe gets tapping and the rythms flow from the kg4s. there are also moments when i am listening at a lesser volumne. the kg4s do a decent job sounding joyful even at the lower rate. how do cornwalls respond at lower volumnes? lastly, my present speaker cables have banana plugs for the kg4s. what termination will i need with a cornwall 1.5? once again, thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts. be well rob
  12. bill/dennie- thanks for the welcoming and your inputs. "room hog" - the cornwalls are indeed more than a bit bigger thean the kg4s, then again, i lived with a good sized snell model d floorstander for years. care to explain some details? from the serial numbers any idea of when these cornwalls were built? type 3b crossover? cwo? again, thanks in advance for sharing your obvious experience be well rob
  13. i am a real fan of the kg4. then i got to this forum and spent months reading about the forte II. i've been sniffing around for a pair near me. in that quest, i bumped into a pair of cornwall I. i emailed the owner and got this back: "I am the original owner. They are the Cornwall Type CWO, serial # 36Y 158, has type 3B crossovers, and the finish is oiled walnut. Been my main speakers for many years. Very efficient, and can light up a neighborhood. Problem is, too small an apartment. They are in perfect working order, could use a grill cloth replacement. Have replaced the cloth once before." now i'm real interested in the cornwalls. how would anyone compare the cornwalls I to the forte II? go with cornwall I or hold out for II or III? cornwalls to kg4s? what is a good price for the above described cornwall I? any and all thoughts are greatly appreciated. be well rob
  14. Wonderful thread detailing this forum's admiration of the Forte/Forte II. (This is my first posting folks so be kind ) I have never heard either Fortes or even the Hersey. I have been a longtime fan of the 2-way KG4s. I bought them locally 6 years ago from the original owner and they quickly became my favorite speakers displacing Thiels CS2s and Snell Model Ds. The KG4s had long been powered by a great McIntosh 1900 receiver. I then switched to a very powerful Audio Refinemt Complete integrated amp. I just pulled out the Complete and installed an Anthem tube Pre 1 mated to a B&K 202 amp. The KG4s NEVER sound better. My wife came into the living room humming the music I was playing, that led to toe-tapping and eventually she got up and danced! All good. Here is the question that I'm hoping will draw upon the forum's collective experience: How do the KG4s compare to the Fortes? How do the KG4s compare to the Herseys? Thanks in advance to those who care to share. Be well Rob
