Advice on center channel needed RC 62 or RB 81
Long time lurker, first post here. I recently began acquiring gear for my basement family space/theater set up and need some advice. I am unable to set up my room for at least 2 months, so as I collect boxes of new gear I am unable to hook anything up and can only imagine what it will sound like.
So far I have a pair of RB 81 for the fronts and a third RB 81 as my center, RS 42 surrounds and RSW 10D for a sub. My initial plan was to go with a AT screen and projector with equal height across the front 3 channels. I have since re-evaluated our projected use (TV 50%/game 30%/ movies 20%) and have decided to go with a Mitsubishi 82737 DLP. I will be running it all through an Onkyo 707 AVR.
Here lies the problem, will an RB 81 on its side below the screen, with its tweeter within 18 inches of the R and L, provide as good a sound if not better than an RC 62. I was able to pick up all of the above mentioned speakers at my local dealer as open box items with a full 5 year warranty for $1100 total. I cannot return an RB 81 and it looks like a new RC 62 will cost me about $350.
I'm trying to decide if the sound as well as the apperance of a "proper" center is worth the difference to me. Just looking for some well informed opinions.I know the standard answer is that I need to listen to it first, but I would like to build my cabinetry around my system and would prefer some personal opinions.
In addition if I were to decide on a RC 62, is there a market for a single RB 81? (probably kind of hard to get rid of).
Thank you in advance for your opinions/advice.
