  1. So I followed what you guys said. I got the HDMI going from the PS3 to the TV for video. The Optical is coming out of the PS3 to the receiver for Audio. I'm assuming that is the best I can do until I get a receiver with HDMI inputs on the back of it. Thanks again!
  2. Gotcha. Thanks for all the info. I see a Harman Kardon receiver in my future. [H]
  3. Ok, so it sounds like the only way I can take advantage of these formats is to get a receiver with HDMI Inputs? I rewired. I'm now coming out of the PS3 with HDMI and into the TV. Then back out of the TV with Optical (Although it says Digital Audio Out on the back of the TV..same thing?) and into the receivers Digital Optical In. I can now tell a difference in clarity when I switch between the RCA input and the Optical input while watching playback of a BluRay with the DTSHD MA selected in the movie menus. Now is the clarity because of the cabling (RCA vs. Optical), or is it because I am now receiving DTSHD MA? Thanks again for your info and patience.
  4. Ok, so here's my question. I bought a PS3 back in December. I have a 50" Panasonic Viera that I bought in May of '09. Now, my friend just gave me a Sony S-Master Dav-FX10 Surround Sound system. http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=11038131#specifications This system is 2-3 years old, I'm assuming as it is no longer available for purchase. On the specs it doesn't list DTS HD Master or Dolby True HD as having the decoders. As for how I have it wired up right now, I have an HDMI coming out of the PS3 and into the TV, then back out of TV via RCA's to the Sony receiver (The receiver doesn't have HDMI). My question is, if the receiver doesn't have those decoders, I'm assuming it doesn't come out in that format? Would you even get any sound? The reason I ask is because when I select the DTS HD Master option for sound on the Blu-Ray movie menu and start the movie, when I hit Select, the PS3 shows it as DTS HD MA coming out. But, it just seems odd to me that it would be decoded if the receiver doesn't come with those decoding formats. Or is it just defaulting to a DTS format that the receiver has? I should note, I lost the remote, so I can't do anything with the receiver to check this for now. I hope this wasn't too confusing and any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!
  5. You really only NEED one kidney. There's more than one???? Yes!!!!
  6. Needless to say I'm very envious at the moment! haha Good to know it sounds superb though. I really cant wait to get all the pieces together. Nevertheless, I'm going to be patient and build it how I want it and not settle. I just wish my living room was bigger. At least I wont have to upgrade my sound system when I move into a bigger place though! My next issue is finding a suitable TV stand/center to fit the RC-64 in. I've seen numerous thread on here about that issue. If anyone has any suggestions (aside from having one built), feel free!
  7. A little off topic, but does anyone know if there is a preference on glass or wood TV stands that have a center speaker? I thought I remember reading somewhere that putting speakers on glass is bad for acoustics, reflections, etc. Or am I in leftfield?
  8. Ya, the HK's I'm looking at go anywhere from 65-80 watts/ch. So that should work pretty well I'm assuming. Thanks to you and the other guys for the advice thus far. I can't wait to get this system together. My 50" Panasonic looks beautiful, but now I need some sound to back it up!!
  9. Thanks for the reply! You make a very good point about getting the Receiver last. I've been looking through a lot of posts, but I want to make sure I get an HK receiver that can handle the load. I dont plan on blowing the door off the apartment as I dont want to get evicted (yet), but I want to make sure I dont short myself either. As for the sub, I would love the RT-10d, but its a price thing at the moment. I will keep looking around for a nice deal or until I have the ample amount saved to get it. Bare in mind I DO want the best setup I can afford and am willing to save up for the RT-10d. I dont like spending a decent amount of money only wishing I would have waited a bit longer for better quality. Silly question...Can you run the Floorstands and Center channel alone? Or do I have to wait till I have a complete 5.1 system for the Center Channel to be useful? Thanks!
  10. Hello everyone! I'm putting together a 5.1 system this year (yes, its going to take a year! lol) Here is my planned setup at the moment. RF-63 Floorstanders RC-64 Center RS-42 Surrounds RW-10d Subwoofer My question is which receiver in the Harmon Kardon line to go with as far as having enough power to push this set up. Any feedback would be appreciated. My couch is about 10 feet from where the Floorstands will be. This setup will eventually be going into a more sizeable room in the future. Thanks again!
