  1. Thanks Erdric, that's probably it. I had thought there had been a model change because Sound Advice, the local Klipsch retailer, recently began advertising the speaker as a new model with a list price of $250 instead of the $280 in the Klipsch web site and the speaker as been around for a year.
  2. I am thinking about upgrading my center channel from a KV-2 to an SC-1. My goal is to get clearer dialog at the lower volumes I have to use when the kids are asleep. My system consists of SB-2's for mains and SB-1's for surrounds which I have both set to small. My Yamaha receiver sends all frequencies below 90 to my subwoofer. Does anyone have any experience with these two center speakers? P.S. Is there a significant difference between the SC-1 and the SC-1B?
  3. I use a Yamaha 995 with Klipsch speakers and it sounds great. I switched from a Marantz receiver which (like Denon) is suppose to be warmer but I sure haven't noticed the difference with analog sources. I am very skeptical about how much a receiver can color the music compared to the speakers. Just look at the frequency response curves. What I look for in a mid priced receiver is low distortion which both Denon and Yamaha deliver. At the time I purchased two years ago, Denon did not have DTS in this price range. Now it does. You need to listen for yourself and decide whether its worth the extra money.
  4. Whoops. When I made made my post, I was thinking of the video concert section of the disk. The DVD has a special audio feature called 20th Century Schitzoid Band where you can mix your own version of the song from several different versions of King Crimson. For example you can mix vocals from the 1969 band with the rhythm section of the 1974 lineup. Enjoy.
  5. I know DTS is suppose to be better, but I wonder how much of this is due to the fact that it's recorded to be louder at the same level of amplification. That's why it seems more in your face. I think the real differences are more subtle if you play the sound tracks at the same volume. Still I have a slight preference for DTS. P.S. Deja Vroom does not have "20th Century Schitzoid Man" on it. It's still excellent but the band has evolved and is very different than from 1969.
  6. Since upgrading to Pro Logic from stereo 6 years ago, I have continue to have problems getting clear dialog at lower volumes. I frequently have to watch DirecTV at lower volumes (around 60-65 spl on Radio Shack meter) because my kids are sleeping in the room adjacent to the home theater. Dialog is harder to understand at these levels especially if it mixed in with the music, explosions, etc typical in movies and shows such as Farscape. My system currently consists of Synergy SB-2 for mains, Synergy SB-1 for surrounds, and my old KV-2 for a center. These speakers are set to small on my Yamaha 995 receiver which sends all the bass below 90hz to the sub in both analog and digital modes. When I discussed the low volume dialog problem with my dealer, he suggested that upgrading to the Klipsch Reference Center would be a better solution than changing to the smaller Synergy Center. Will changing to either of these speakers make any difference versus the KV-2?
