  1. That's nice but holy crap that's expensive. Someone said to try out the Belkin PF60 and that's about $200 and I think I might go that route, I'm not sure I need a $1000 surge supressor for the stuff I have right now. If I had thousands of dollars in equipment I would probably think about this some more but I don't think I need something quite this nice yet. Thanks though! Mark
  2. Perfect, thanks so much for the link that was extremely informative and that's pretty much what I'm looking for, it's in the same price range as the Monster unit but seems to have much better features. I just want to make sure I am protecting my investment(s) properly, the last thing I need is a power surger that blows everything to kingdom come. My Monster unit seems to do a decent job, I've had a few spikes and it has shut everything down in time and saved my equipment but I think as I continue to upgrade its time to start really thinking about investing in a good surge supressor and this one fits the bill. Plus it doesn't hurt that it looks great and would compliment my system as well []
  3. Would you mind linking a good one that you are thinking about so I know what to look for, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!
  4. Right now I have a Monster 8 plug 1800 joules surge supressor for my entire system. I was wondering if that is adequate enough, or if I should upgrade to something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Monster-HDP-1800-8-Outlet-Center/dp/B001CBPWT0/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1269551705&sr=8-5 Just want to make sure I am protecting my investments properly. thanks and sorry if this is in the wrong section. 6. lol $5,000 dog with 18 metal spikes through his legs, 2 metal plates..the bionc Newfoundland!!!!! I hear you about tinkering with the settings I am always messing around with my settings and I know my wife gets tired of it. I'm always like "does that sound better than before" and she just sighs and stops paying attention to me after about 5 minutes. It's hard to tell though when you're right on top of the receiver if the changes you are making are working/worth it, so I need another ear but she could care less, it's all a waste to her just like my car infatuation. Women just don't understand do they?
  7. Haha isn't that the truth, the thing is when I'm passionate about something I tend to jump right in so I can learn more so yea, I wouldn't be surprised if my post count starts to go up exponentially in the next few months
  8. I think from what you guys put up, the RF-35 system would be a great one to strive for. Looks like a great setup. Ah well like everyone said one step at a time, I need to get my newly purchased surrounds up and enjoy them and not worry about another purchase for awhile. I have plenty to enjoy for the time being. Thanks so much all for your help I really love this community! Mark
  9. Well that certainly sounds like what I need to strive for in the future, so that's a good plan to put into place. So go aftter the RF-82, the RC-62 and move the RB-35s back for the surrounds? Sounds good to me. I'll just have to keep my eyes open for people selling those pieces on this site. I'm really in no rush right now, my current setup works really well in the space I have, but once I move in a couple years to my final house/destination, I will want to upgrade everything to deal with the larger sized area. The receiver is probably going to be the next piece of the puzzle to be honest with you, maybe as soon as I get my taxes back. I would love to get a Yamaha RX-V665 or Onkyo SR-707 they both are about $575 and seem to be pretty darned good with what I currently have and what I would need in the space I have. People have raved about those receivers as entry level ones that do a great job with HDMI upconversion. Thanks again guys, you have been so helpful I can't thank you enough. I'm so ahead of myself, I need to get my recently purchased S-1s installed and enjoy those lol look at me already talking about everything else. Mark
  10. Thanks guys just needed some reassurance that's all. It sounds like I need to wait to get some real tower speakers and for the time being the RB-35s are perfectly fine with my setup. Just for reference since someone asked I live in Indianapolis. So if there's anyone local that is ever selling some great towers maybe we can work something out. Thanks! Mark
  11. I just want to concur, I have the RB-35s and RC-35 and I think most people on this site would consider it a "start up" system, but most of my friends that hear this set up are just flat out floored. The RB-35s do an amazing job as mains and the RC-35 is simply an amazing center channel. I had the RC-10 but sold it to pick up the RC-35 and I just couldn't believe how much better the depth and dialogue was while using the RC-35. You really should think about picking those up, Youthman is a good guy and he's selling his RB-35s for a good price and down the road if you decide to upgrade your main speakers you can always use the RB-35s as your surrounds, that's exactly what I plan on doing to be honest with you. They do such an amazing job as mains I can't even wait to see what they do as surrounds once I upgrade in a year or so. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!
  12. So I was perusing ebay like usual looking for good deals and came across a pair of RF-15 that someone was selling for $349.99 Right now I have RB-35 bookshelf speakers as my mains. I know from talking with Youthman and seeing how much he was going to try to sell his RB-35s for (which he uses as his surrounds) he was going to try to get around $350 for them. So my question is, would it actually be an upgrade to pick up the RF-15s to use as my main speakers and sell the RB-35s for around the same price so its a wash price wise? If it's not much of an upgrade then I obviously won't do it. Actually I might be answering my own question when I post up the specs for each but help me out regardless please: RB-35s Frequency: 45Hz-20kHz (+-3db), Power Handling 125 watts continuous (500w peak), sensitivity 96db, crossover 2350Hz, 1" titanium dome compressor driver, 6" square Tractrix horn, One 8" Cerametallic woofer RF-15s Frequency: 46Hz-20kHz (+-3db), Power Handling 100 watts continuous (400 watts peak), sensitivity 96db, 1" titanium dome compressor driver, 5" square Tractrix horn, Two 5.25 Cerametallic woofers So it almost looks like the bookshelfs are better than these tower speakers. So I probably should be looking to upgrade to something like RF-52s or RF-62s right if I want to get a boost out of my mains? Just trying to save up for my next purchase, receiver first then a better set of mains. I have the receiver I want pretty much picked out just waiting for a better price on it (maybe someone around here will be getting rid of one soon hint hint lol) but I'd like to get a bit more umph out of my mains eventually. Thanks! Mark
  13. Congrats, you're going to love it! I am in the same dilemna as you though, I still need a receiver that is HDMI capable so I can get the true power out of the sound and picture of the pieces I have. I'm sure the sound quality through an HDMI receiever with our setups would sound amazing compared to just using digital optical outputs which is what I currently use. That's the next piece to the puzzle for me. Congrats again and have fun! Mark BTW look on ebay for RS-10s, they were selling a new set for $269.99 if I recall correctly. I was thinking about picking them up but found an amazing deal on some S-1s. I figure I'll stick with the S-1s for now and down the road I can sell them for what I bought them for and pick up RS-10s or something a big better when I have a bit more cash on hand. Damn dog's ACL tore again, $2500 down the drain ($5000 total now on both ACLs). Would have been about to buy my HDMI receiver plus nicer mains, but at the end of the day I guess I love my dog a lot more than my home theater system lol sorry to go oT there whoops

    RW-10d

I have the same issue as well, its hard to figure out exactly how to set the RW-10d with my setup. I have 3 setups though that seem to work well, movie is set at like -2 and with depth, music is set at -4 with punch and night is set at -8 with flat. I don't mess with phase or anything else because well I just don't know much about it. I think it sounds awfully good with my setup, I really enjoy the sub it is much better than most other entry level subs IMO. I got mine for relatively cheap because my brother worked for a tech company that sold AV equipment to large corporations and the Klipsch Reference line was the lowest line in their product line so I think I got the RW-10d for like $250 brand new. It hits so hard it shakes my entire downstairs flooring lol I really do love it. I think the thing I need to figure out is optimal placement. the way my room is set up, its a large rectangle so I have to put my system in the corner. So I have my sub behind everything firing towrads the wall. I gave it some room to breath, but I wonder if I fired it out into the room if it would hit cleaner but unfortunately I don't have the room size to experiment. Next house, next house lol
  15. So here's the dilemna - ideally i would like to get the RS-10 surrounds to keep everything I have in the reference series, but I found a great deal on some used SS-1s on ebay (I am currently winning the bidding) and even found someone on here selling their S-1s for $85 shipped. With my living room being a rectangle and the inevitable placement of my surrounds I think both will do an ample job. The question is, which one is better for me given that I can get both for under $100? This is what I could find but I'm kind of a noob (seems that the S-1s have a greater range of sounds but I dunno): SS-1s frequency response, wattage and specs: 65Hz-20Hz, 100 watts continuous (400watts peak), 2-1" Aluminum dome compression drivers, 5" square Tractrix horn, 5.25" IMG cone woofer S-1s frequency response, wattage and specs: 95Hz-23Hz, 50 watts continuous (200watts peak), 2-0,75" Aluminum dome compressoin tweeters, 2x4" Tractrix horns, 4" woofer So which is the better speaker? I have heard the SS-1s in play because my buddy has a full line of Klipsch speakers, RF-62s, RW-10d, RC-35 and SS-1s for surrounds and his living room is 500 square feet bigger than mine at least and I think they sound really good that's why I don't feel bad about not getting the RS-10s even though I know they are a better surround, plus my living room is so small I don't think it's really going to matter. But between the two, if anyone can point me in the right direction I sure would be obliged. Thanks! Oh yea the other advantage on the SS-1s are that they are white so I can blend them in fairly well mouting them on the wall which is always nice. You guys have been great with the advice sorr for the noob questions! Mark
  16. I am currently bidding on a pair of SS-1s in white that I think will do perfect with my setup the way it is now. The bidding is pretty low hopefully I can get it for another steal. I love ebay and craiglist, got the RC-35 for $100 shipped and made money off it by selling my RC-10, and now I am hopefully about to get some SS-1s in white that will blend in perfectly with the walls for under $100 (assuming I don't get outbid of course). If I do I'll just keep looking. Thanks!
  17. Anybody have any opinions on the SS-1s in white? I found a great deal for them on ebay and they would blend into my walls perfectly, and since I'm not running the really high end speakers (though they are reference series and the SS-1s aren't) I figured they should be ok. Anyone that can help me I would appreciate it so much thanks!
  18. Hi long time lurker, short time poster. You guys helped me a ton with a center channel question I had previously. I pulled off a wicked move, getting a gentely used RC-35 for $100 shipped from Cali and turned around and sold my gentely used RC-10 for $175 shipped. Nothing like getting a much better speaker and making money off it! I can't believe how much better the RC-35 is it has made a HUGE difference in sound quality especially dialogue. Anyway, next up for me is a HDMI capable receiver as well as some surround speakers. Being that I have a pretty small living room, i was wondering if the Reference RS-10s were a good choice for me? If you look at my signature you can see what I am pushing/using and I don't think I need a whole lot more than what the RS-10s can put out. I'm thinking about bidding on these: http://cgi.ebay.com/NIB-Klipsch-RS-10-Loudspeaker_W0QQitemZ180482045693QQcmdZViewItemQQptZSpeakers_Subwoofers?hash=item2a059176fd If I could bid really low I could get 2 of them for possibly really cheap and finally have the speaker setup of my home theater done. Then it would just be a matter of getting an HDMI capable receiver to maximize my experience. Or if anyone is getting rid of some good Reference surrounds for a decent price please feel free to contact me at mbratner@gmail.com. Thank you guys have been awesome! Mark
  19. Just looking for some feedback here. I have an oddly shaped room it is a 35x15 rectangle of a family room. As a result I have to put my entertaiment system in the corner of the room. I have the following: 1. Yamaha RX-V520 Receiver (had it for 12 years, next to upgrade to an HDMI capable receiver) 2. Klipsch Reference RB-35 - mains 3. Klipsch Reference RC-35 -center 4. Klipsch RW-10d subwoofer I do not have surround sound speakers due to the configuration of the room it just wouldn't work and aren't really necessary its intimate enough. Just wondering if I am headind down the right path because I have generally found these for great deals with is mainly why I went with Klipsch but so far have been very happy with their reference series line. Of course I would love some RF-52s but those aren't in the budget and I feel the bookshelfs are more than adequate in this size of a room. Just looking for some feedback. Thanks,
