  1. Good news bad news..... Speakers are great but they sent a black centre rather than the cherry so that has to get swapped next week. Good news is he let me bring it home and use it because it wasn't my fault . Also when we built this house we had the cabinets built in to house the speakers......and so the other bad news is that I will possibly be getting those removed. I was intending to purchase speakers that are made to go into a cabinet but didn't. I tested the fronts inside and outside the cabinets and there is a difference, perhaps its the speakers being closer to me but regardless there is a difference. The only way it sounds close is when the grill is off and the cabinet mesh door is open and listening to music. For movies its night and day. For anyone else considering putting them in cabinets make sure the cabinets are open at the back and speakers can still be aimed. Did not like the sound in the cabinet myself. I will give a try of lining the cabinet with a foam the installer told me about which is supposed to make it sound better, less cabinety lol.. don't put much faith in it but I will give it a try. My issue with keeping them out is only 1, kids. I am afraid when kids are there they will poke them and touch them or worse knock them over. We have a lot of family get togethers at our house and I swear some parents don't think anything of it...last time I come downstairs to the theatre room, kids are supposed to be upstairs and two of them are playing pass with one of the billiards balls, one of them is trying to shoot pool but just rubbing the cue stick on the cloth and the other is trying to reach the projector...... I guess it's time to invest in a good door lock lol. Good news bad news..... Speakers are great but they sent a black centre rather than the cherry so that has to get swapped next week. Good news is he let me bring it home and use it because it wasn't my fault . Another note on the subwoofers, they are exactly as I expected . I have heard deeper bass no doubt, and more hard hitting bass as well. After using the auto room correction and finding proper placement for them I would have to say I am very impressed and they outperformed my expectations. There are a few songs I know that hit really low so I tried those and it was lackluster but still good. I watched the Town and it sounded GREAT, some scenes with a lot of bass hit really hard and my posters on the wall were shaking while the sub volume was not set any higher than default. I turned them up and watched the Dark Knight scenes and I was pleasantly surprised, the subs did not fall behind. Having said that at the retail price I would probably look else where but could not resist with my discount . Good news bad news..... Speakers are great but they sent a black centre rather than the cherry so that has to get swapped next week. Good news is he let me bring it home and use it because it wasn't my fault . I asked my wife to find the subs and she was only able to locate one because its very visible but otherwise It is very difficult to pin point the bass. When I showed her she said "you bought TWO subs, why do you need TWO subs" ooops Good news bad news..... Speakers are great but they sent a black centre rather than the cherry so that has to get swapped next week. Good news is he let me bring it home and use it because it wasn't my fault . I will post pictures inside and outside the cabinets later this weekend. Right now I left them in the cabinets because I am waiting to get a soundproof door with better lock and our carpet has rolled up a bit into almost a hill about 4 inches high in the middle of the room so the carpet guys have to come and fix that. Don't worry for those who consider putting these in a cabinet a sin, they will come out as soon as the carpet and cabinets are fixed . I bought the cherry ones because I like to look at them lol
  2. The speakers have arrived.....but I am stuck at work. This is officially the longest day ever. This is my first real home theatre setup so does anyone have any tips from experience.... what I should do first or how to best calibrate, anything that you think I would find helpful would be greatly appreciated. Knowing that they would arrive today I have already connected everything so I just need to plug in the speakers and go throught the receiver set up. Two screws are waiting to be put into studs so I can mount the surrounds. Luckily I have tomorrow off because I have a feeling it will be a long night. Will post pictures later if anyone is interested.
  3. I just received an email saying that the speakers have arrived and will be ready for pick up tomorrow morning! Unfortunately I am stuck at work so I am hoping I can get someone to pick everything up. Does anyone have a rough measure of the RF-7II RC-64 RS-62 SW-311 boxes..... I will be using an extended length mini van to do the pick up. Thanks, (I am getting a bit too excited I think)
  4. I have checked the glass and it is all sealed and not even moving a bit. I will take a closer look to see if it could be the doors vibrating against each other where they close but I looked and there was no wear there and there is a noticeable gap. As for the Harmony 1100, How do you find using that. I was concerned with the size that I would have to use two hands to operate.... I was looking at the Harmony 900 which looks comprable. I am curious about rack mountiung a monitor. Earlier on I had considered putting a rack in the shelf on a turntable so I would just be able to turn it to make connections. the DIY cost comes in around $200. The picture shows the current shelving, i have left it as is because I don't have the time to complete it yet and don't know whether its worth while. Having the monitor so close to the components would be very convenient, right now I was considering putting it wall mounted beside the couch where I sit.
  5. Right now I am using an old HTIB and when I turn up the volume the doors rattle/vibrate. I was told by the installer that I could replace the hinges with ones that close very tight so even when you go to the open the doors there is so some force required. Apparently they just keep the doors pulled close tighter than regular ones. Right now there are those rubber stoppers on the doors so there is no wood to wood contact. I am just worried that as soon as I have the full set up going that the rattle will increase. I don't have photo's of the hinges but I have one of the cabinet if that helps. The receiver is not there and the wires have not been organized.
  6. I have a projector connected to my receiver and my issue is that many times I just want to run downstairs and start a recording on my PVR. Or we are all downstairs and want to browse my itunes and play music. I don't like the idea of the projector being on for these types of uses so I have been looking for a sub $100 monitor with HDMI connection. I have seen them as low as $109.99 for a 21.5" but was looking for a 19" as it would fit into one of the cabinets perfectly and be visible throught the glass. I was looking at setting up a Harmony One the remote.
  7. I am in the midst of completing my home theatre set up and was looking for what else I might need/want to improve my set up and or experience. I have looked online and have gotten some ideas but don't really know what is worth it and what is not. The quick list I have come up with are - Power line conditioner - Accoustic Panels - Bass Shakers for seats??.. - Upgrading to an Amp - Universal Remote - Adding a small monitor or tv to use when don't need the projector on but need on screen menus. This one I am considering doing with a 19" or so screen. Does anyone use any other accessories that they feel are really useful? Also I was looking to see if anyone has suggestions for preventing rattling from cabinet doors. I have considered putting weather sealing tape which is sticky on one side and foam on the other as well as replacing the hinges with ones that pull to a tight close. The hinges are very expensive and so I am looking for a cheaper alternative.
  8. After doing a lot of research I went with monoprice 12awg. At under 25 cents per foot you can't really go wrong. I am using bananaplugs for no reason other than habit. I have wired everything and am just waiting for my speakers. The monoprice cables are also very good quality. I ordered the HDMI, subwoofer cable, and opticals as well. The Net jacket makes the hdmi cables difficult to work with but other than that minor issue I will be ordering all my cabling from them.
  9. Hey ryrebo That will be a very nice setup. I would agree with what Bill said about swapping the rb-51 and rs-42. If you are doing that I would probably take it one step further and up the RS-42 to the RS-52. I tested out the RF-82II with the RC-62II and you might want to consider upping the centre from all I have read/been told about the importance of a center, I found that it sounded really good to my ears but watching a full movie with it I may feel different. That particular Sub I think would be under powered for your set up. I believe klipsch recommends the SW-310 but that will be quite a bit more$$ than the SW-110 in which case you may want to look at other brands. I have read about the Emotiva/SVS/HSU and they are all highly endorsed on most forums. You are at the right place to ask questions, I am in the midst of putting my system together and have had a lot of questions all which have been answered here. Good Luck with your set up!
  10. That is a good price and size. I was just curious if anyone has tried out the SW-311 before making judgement. Not that I don't agree with most of what people are saying and I know the specs and reviews of the other recommended subs are very good. My primary use is for movies and music, most of my music is not very bass heavy. Very little hip hop etc. Primarily I will be listening to (I am being honest so please reserve judgement lol) mainstream music such as coldplay, script, Killers, jack johnson. Older music from zeppelin, springstein, journey. I am all over the map with occasional jazz, techno, almost everything other than rap and country. For movies I think its similar to everyone else, I have a list of what I want to watch first and partially and in not in any order it is Avatar Inception Town I haven't seen the above three because I have been waiting for my speakers Star trek Black Hawk down (heard its really good for audio) Dark Knight How low of a frequency would a sub really need to hit and what db would be considered good for that type of uses. 75% movies /25% music I have heard some of these on a KEF setup with the XQ30 and 2 subs XQ60 and was pleased by the quality and the level of bass was ok although quality wasn't where I would like it. I wasn't jumping out of my seat and running get the setup but I wasn't dissatisfied. That was running off an Onkyo TX-NR807..... I have also heard the RF-83 setup with an RT-12D and RF-63 setup with the RSW-10D x 2 which I was happy with.... I would love to be able to give some of these recommended subs a try if anyone knows of a place in washington near seattle, or in Vancouver BC...
  11. Funny that you mention that as I was just on the emotiva site looking at the XPA-3 and XPA-5. I was going to give the Onkyo a listen first and see how it sounds. I was going to use the built in bridging for the front channels which theoretically doubles the power from 68 to 136. I was leaning against that because then there is less power for the centre channel and I can only run a 5.1 setup. I was trying to see if there is a way to run a 7.1 and bridge only for stereo... Would you suggest going with the XPA-3 and running the rest via the receiver or the XPA-5 and running just the rears from the receiver. I would possibly like to run two outdoor speakers so the amp would help in that respect leaving the receivers zone 2 and 3 for other uses but thats getting ahead of myself lol. It's going to be a bitter sweet christmas I have the receiver and all the cables but not the speakers and I am putting together a new HTPC for which I have all the parts but power supply which is coming next week. I guess will organize and clean up, maybe put all the banana plugs where I need to so when the speakers come its just unpack plug and play
  12. Yep; I agree with Jay. Not trying to make you feel bad, but I really think after a few days or weeks you will have the upgrade bug. Good luck. Don't worry about making me feel bad lol[], I took everyones opinion on the sub hard into consideration and was considering going to the pb-13-Ultra in the black oak or one of the HSU models. After my research I came to the same sort of conclusion that the pb-13 is easily worth the extra $600. My issue is that I still work part time for an authorized klipsch dealer so I am getting a ridiculously good deal on these pretty much a 2 for 1. In addition to that there was a bit more hassle in getting one of those in Canada. The other issue is that the size of the pb-13 doesn't fly at home....The sw-311 is small enough that I can place them in a manner that they can not be seen. And if you are correct about me wanting to upgrade after trying at home the worst case scenario is me selling the two that I purchased and upgrading to a different one
  13. ,Congrats on the the birthday gift. How high is your ceiling and at what level are your side surrounds. If your ceiling is 10ft or higher I don't know if rear surrounds is a good idea. You could work with 8ft with no problem and have your side surrounds mounted at around 7ft. The RB-81II's should hang down to about 7ft, therefore they would be about even. I don't know personally about ceiling mounts but maybe someone will chime in. Bill Thanks, My ceiling is only 8ft. How high should the sides be mounted if the rears were out of the picture? I have read above ear level and at ear level.... I want to be able to rotate the RB-81's 180* to listen where there will be a very small bar and pool table. From my personal experience I havent noticed a huge benefit of rear surrounds as most of the time they are off or just duplicating what the surrounds are playing so the main reason for me is to use them as zone 2 speakers. My pre-wire is on the ceiling and that is causing the issue. Someone else suggested bridging the fronts and putting the rears as zone 2 only and not use them as rears. That would make purchasing a mount easier but I would rather use them as dual purpose. Perhaps I will add some pictures and someone can provide a creative solution.
  14. I received some good news due to having my birthday in early January long story short I am getting a set of RB-81II for my rears. Does anyone know of a good mount with which I can ceiling mount these slightly angled downwards with the ability to rotate them without the need of a screw driver. I received my monoprice wires, it was my first time ordering from them, I paid less than I would have for 2 monster HDMI cables with a discount and I got 100ft speaker cable, 10 hdmi cables, 2 "subwoofer" cables, 2 wall plates, 2 optical cables. Quality feels very good.
  15. After reading this additional information, dual subs would probably have a more immediate impact than rears. Bill I think I will go for the extra subwoofer. I know some people here might say go for a better subwoofer and I have looked into it but I am getting 2 of these for slightly over the MSRP of 1 and can't find anything that will compare to that dollar to dollar. I am not set on what I want on the rear so I also am going to try out the RS-62II first and the RB-81 to see what I would prefer as the rears. My setup is such that I have a pool table behind the seats and will want to run the rears as a 2.1 zone 2 just for music for which I think the RB-81's will be better than the RS-62II. I have been told in best case scenario I will have them by the 24th, so I am crossing my fingers. They are only coming from Toronto to Vancouver so as long as everything is in stock I should be good. Would be an awesome christmas day set up.
  16. The room is pre wired for rears and dual subs. My issue is with mounting the rears. I can ceiling mount at 2-5 ft behind seats or the back wall which is 15ft away from seats. I eventually plan to add another sub and rears its just a matter of what to do first.
  17. I have ordered the RF-7II + RC-64II + 2 x RS-62II Along with an SW-311 sub. Currently I have the budget to either add 2 more surround speakers for rear surround with either RB-81 or RS-62 or to add an additional SW-311. If anyone has any experience or recomendation that would be great. My room is 5500 cubic feet.
  18. My system is supposed to arrive on the 23rd (but then again it was supposed to be here on the 6th). I have the same set up as you arriving and held off on getting the 2 rear speakers. I was going to go with the rs62-II's but after talking to/listening to other setups I am leaning towards the RB-81's as well. My issue is that my back wall is about 15ft away from my couches and I have the option of placing the rear speakers 3 feet behind the couch attached to the ceiling. at the back wall I would have to go with the RB-81 and on the ceiling I am leaning towards the RS-62II. From my experience as of know I would suggest going with the RB-61 just because I like to match the surrounds/rear and don't feel the rb-81 will add much over the 61. Just reading the RF-7II package page and they have bullet notes that says Add optional subwoofer for deep bass (*MSRP does not include subwoofer) Add two RB-81 II Bookshelf Speakers for a 7.1 home theater system Don't know what reasoning there is but its what they suggest.
  19. I see that you are working on a Tuba HT. Hows the process going so far? I have relatively extensive experience with construction, I have built a shed, deck, cabinets, and entertainment unit before but am very low on time right now. Any idea what type time comitment that would take. I haven't seen any plan's yet so I am not sure how comlicated it would be. I would have some time this upcoming weekend (4 day weekend) to get started but then I am busy till Novemeber. At such a small investment (for the type of sound quality people are suggesting) even if I am not happy (which again I doubt based on what others have said) with it I could still use it as a music sub.
  20. Better subs aren't about being over bearing or boomy, they're about being able to handle dynamic bass tracks, higher power handling, low distortion, and being able to reproduce lower frequencies Exactly. And that was from a Tuba HT owner. I'll wager he has good ultra clean bass. My other issues is there are not many places to give other brand subs a listen or home demo near me (unless someone knows of a place in vancouver bc). I have listened to the Martin Logan Descent which I was impressed by but not sold on, I don't know why. It sounded very clean and deep but I was expecting something different.I think it may have had to do with the price point lol. I want to give the HSU/SVS a listen as I have heard nothing but good things. I have only compared Klipsch with Velodyne so far and it was the rsw-10d and optimum-10. I liked the Velodyne better but with both I felt I may need 2 if it was in home. I will be in Oregon/California in the next week or so, perhaps I will be able to test out a few more. I am particular to Klipsch form a value point of view as I get a much better deal on them and I have a really good relationship with the manager of the store if I run into any issues.
  21. I considered DIY but don't have the time. I am still working on DIY Deck and Bar lol. I am also looking to make a DIY pull out rotating component rack which will take a lot of my time. Also if the sw-311 matches up with the RF-7II very well and works in my room I'm happy. I just want something that will allow me to feel the bass in the room while not being over bearing and boomy.
  22. Thats what I was thinking. The brochure for the Reference V is now on the RF-7 II page and it has a suggested package with the SW-311. I want to hear this sub. I liked the rt-12d but this doesn't seem to even come close and I would expect the RF-7II to be deeper than the RF-83 with the 10" drivers. I would definately need 2 of the SW-311 if I went that route so I will have to go give a listen to some others. My room size poses a bit of an issue for the SW-311,I would think, as its 5000 ft^3. I will mostly watch movies(75%) and some music(10%) and remainder TV/Sports.
  23. I was talking to a local dealer in canada and was told that "new subs are on the way" whatever that would mean. I have also seen a SW-311 online referred to as the "Flagship Subwoofer" its a 10" 500watt model if you do a google search you can find 2 sites that mention it and one has more detailed specs. I should be receiving my RF-7II, RC-64II, RS62II package by october (i hope), and wanted to get 1 or 2 subs depending on what klipsch comes out with. I have looked at some other brands and have been impressed but my question is that if the 10" is in fact the flagship model from klipsch am I better off getting 2 of those or something else all together. this is what i have seen All new Klipsch flagship subwoofer•10” Active/Dual 10” Passive non-resonantWoven Fiberglass drivers•Upgraded, increased efficiency BASH® Amplifier with DSPcontrolled 500 watts FTC continuous/1200 wattsdynamic power•Similar specs to the two RT models it replaces in a muchsmaller footprint/more aesthetic design•Large 4-layer Aluminum-Wound voice coil for high output•New, patented ARC II room correction program with12 active filters•New universal power input with 1-watt standby mode•DCS electronic controls•USB input for upgrading, viewing ARC II roommeasurements, viewing/editing correction filters•Line output for multiple system subs•Input for future wireless capabilityBandwidth: 22Hz to 120HzSensitivity: 106db @ 40HzMax output: 118dB @ 30Hz500 – 1200 wenclosure: Bass Reflexsize: 13” x 13” x 14”
  24. I was looking for a good deal on the TX-NR3007 and after bargaining to 849.00 for the demo unit over the phone I went in and was told that the demo unit had already been sold! because it was over an hour drive the manager ordered me one in from another location. The other location is sending a new one but now I am paying $899. With the RF-7 II speakers having 10" drivers should I be going with at least a 12" sub or would two RSW-10D subs work just as well?
  25. If its the package that was mentioned here it was also an open box demo unit. Which i have no problem with but I am getting this package at dealer pricing. Not including subwoofer for a 7.1 its about the MSRP of the RF-7II. I would consider myself lucky getting a new package which will be current for 5 years. Again not saying thats not an amazing deal but the only ones I saw close to that price point was about $1000 for a pair of the RF-83 demos but they have a few nicks and honestly I have no idea how much or how hard they have been played. The place where I used to work some of the speakers got abused. and again for another few hundred I can get a new set and have all the speakers matching as close as possible rather than piecing together a system.
