  1. I am replacing my speaker wire.I am using silver coated copper.Ihave to run it up a 12ft. wall then 20 across the ceiling, then down another 12ft wall.My brother claims that shielding is imperitive.Does anyone know where I can get shielding or would metal conduit work as well.
  2. Thanks guys for all of the input. You were correct in saying that I would get much better info through the forum than from salesmen trying to sell their products. Now that I understand how to use the forum I would like to give out a little more information for some suggestions. My wife recently gave me the green light to rebuild the entire home entertainment system. Before I begin I should give out some history.I have a 2yr old son who carries around his own Black & Decker preschool tool set,and he feels it necessary to "fix" everything in the house. In case there are any prospective Dads out there I highly recommend you do not purchase the "cute little tool set'.Therefore for safety's sake tubes are out.My other liability is my sweetie. She wants a system that is simple to operate and not all those "buttons and dials" like the old one.One remote that operates with the cabinet closed.Currently I have a Denon 8305 that powers the 5.1 surrounds with the multizone preouts going to the POA 1500 then to the horns.Surround speakers are an older set of klipsh but I don't know the model. Now the project. Thanks to the forum I started with a Crites upgrade to the crossovers and the tweeters.Next we are tearing out the hollow walls the horns rest against and replacing the sheetrock with MDF.In the mean time I am upgrading the speaker wires from home depot cheap stuff to silver coated copper. If I am still married after that phase I will begin auditioning amps. To answer some of the questions posed YES I love the way the POA-1500 sounds but a new (used) one would not fit the critirea of one remote controls all.Next someone asked about aren't there any horns around town to audition any amps on.No Slidell is a suburb of New Orleans, and a little storm called Katrina put 8 to 10 feet of water in most of our homes(hence the 8305 reciever).I got lucky and saved the POA 1500 and the horns ;after all one must have his prioritys.thanks again I will keep you posted.
  3. I have a 1983 denon POA 1500 amp.Thirty years of U hauls, kids, and K horns have worn the old girl out.Now she has to go to the electronics doctor regularly to have something soldered or fixed. So I decided to go amp shopping for the first time since 1983.During my travels I found a reciever that was rated at 200 w/channel at 7 channels or a total of 1400 watts. This reciever wieghs about 25 lbs.My denon wieghs in at about 60 lbs. When I asked a younger audio junkie about the difference he said the new reciever was digital and I would be better of judging amps by wieght rather than by what numbers were on the box.He explained that there was no way that the little transformers in that reciever could handle the current necessary to drive the horns.Since we were a couple of glasses (bottles) of wine past sober I didn't ask for an explaination. Then two days ago an A/V consultant came to my house to give me a quote on an entirely new 5.1 surrond and a new amp for the horns and he said the same thing.I am very confused.
