  1. Just curious about this. You listed in you add that the damage on the rf7 does not effect sound at all. Since this is the only pair you have ever listened to how would you know that? Maybe it does effect the sound? Lol I'm just giving you s**t ! Just funny cause people write that all the time but rarely do they have an undamaged set to compare them too.
  2. I need a cheapy BD player for the living room. Its a 720p plasma. It's only for watching slide shows my wife makes and kids movies for the boy. I was thinking I should just get a DVD player since the tv is not 1080. We really only have dvd kids movies anyway. Any ideas? I kinda need a player that will play many formats Because of the home made disc's she plays. Thx
  3. thats funny cause I have the exact opposite issue!
  4. That model 978 looks intresting. I wonder how that will turn out.
  5. I can understand Fish's opinion. It was difficult at first for me to think this way but now that I have been informed on the topic I do understand. You see prices on big speakers like the 83's, 63's, 7's, ect can vary ALOT from place to place. There was a guy on here selling his RF63/RC64 combo for $2000 a while back and I thought to myself "he's never gonna get that". However I guess he was from SF, CA and where he lives that price was about right. He claims to have gotten that price from a local buyer (not a forum member). I'm in the northest... I sold my 63's (mint) for $800 so you can see there was a large difference in price from one place to the next. Especially with large speakers that people don't feel comfortable shipping. The other thing is that people grow an emotional attachment to Klipsch speakers (not everyone but some). I have had forum members feel insulted when I made an offer on speakers without first seeing them! lol So when someone really loves their speakers it shouldn't surprise you that they "value" them when they are compared to something you like. It surprised me at first but through time spent on this forum I figured it out. Good luck with your RC64 search. They are tough to come by but they do pop up on occasion. Shake777 is selling his right now (if its not sold already). I think he wants like $400 plus shipping.
  6. Im glad you were able to find an amp that will work for you. I do wish the emo amps were quieter because the price is right and they are very pretty IMO.
  7. if you don't mind me asking sub, how much did you get for your XPA-5? Im trying to sell mine now for $650-$675 (only 6 months old) and no takers.
  8. ok so I did a little bit of trouble shooting this morning. I turned on the the amp first with nothing else on. Got a fairly loud hum fuzzy noise. Then I turned on the Onkyo and the hum actually dereased by like 75%. It was still present however it decreased to the point that I had to put my ear within a foot of the horn to hear it. I didn't try turning on the amp with the RCA's unplugged cause I didn't think of it. I will try that Wednesday.
  9. Not sure about those questions. I'll play with it Tuesday or Wednesday and figure that out. yeah Sub let me know what you find.
  10. There have been quite a few posts about the noise floor on the XPA-5, especially when using a highly efficient speaker. I have said problem with my RF7ii's. It's only noticable when there is no contant playing. I am currently using RCA cables. Would changing to XLR cables make a difference?
  11. So 9 pages later, Jason, did you get the answer you were looking for? nice.....
  12. Your right, price point does not make them equal. The $499 avr actually comes with an amp and the emo doesn't. All my opinions on the umc are based on forum posts and reviews. What more can I go on? I understand you are clearly a umc-1 fan. That's great, I'm glad you like your equipment. That's why I LOoked at the umc in the first place (many many fans). However I just couldn't justify the purchase with all the bad reviews. I use cable, apple tv, ps3, a HT pc that in need plugged into my avr. Far too many issues brought up on the forums with that type of equipment hooked up to the umc-1.
  13. Y'all keep comparing the $1500 price point to the $500 umc-1. You should be comparing the same price points. Like an onkyo 709 or 1008 for example. Just because the umc-1 lacks an amp doesn't make it some how higher in quality above an avr does it?
  14. Shake, I don't think the reason for your old denon not selling is lack of quality or demand. Try pricing it at $500 and see how fast it goes. Lol. Actually I'll take it got $500 if you want to dump it?
  15. Youth, I get the apples to apples thing. But if you want to really compare apples to apples we need to compare price points as well. I mean a Toyota carolla and a Lexus LS are both cars but comparing the 2 wouldn't be fair either. Seems like a regular avr and the emo in the same price range (like the 709 or the 1121) is fair. Although the the avr's in that price range also offer an amp as a bonus! Lol
  16. I think he was talking about a used onkyo 886. Why are we only comparing pre/pro's to the emo? Why can't the regular avr's with preouts be compared as well? For example what does the emo offer that the onkyo 709 not offer? Or the Pioneer 1121?
  17. LOL[] Why did it require a firmware update?
  18. I just got the 709 http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/156710.aspx I am still considering selling my ht rc 180 and moving the 709 to the bedroom and grabbing an onkyo 5508 or 5008 for the HT. I really wanted to like the UMC-1 but after reading so many threads about the problem people are having I just coudn't pull the trigger. Hopefully when they come out with the XMC-1 it won't be so full of problems. If that does happen I would most likely give it a try. I would love to be able to buy from an american company.
  19. Is it still a "great deal" when it doesnt work correctly no matter the price?
  20. shake, Seems like 8/10 reviews I read or forum posts from UMC owners is about problems they had/are having with the umc-1. Yet I constantly read that the UMC-1 is a great deal. I question the "great deal" statments mainly because it is selling at a lower price point so I was intrested. I would expect it to be on par with the other brands of pre/pro's out there like onkyo and denon. If it's not on they're level of quality and performance than how is it a great deal? Seems like it's less of a "great deal" and more of just a "lower price". You spoke about the emo business plan and their ability to keep a lower price point. I just don't see that being possible while maintaining an equally quality product at such a low price point compared to others.
  21. I have limitless and super 8 in from Netflix right now. We'll see which one the family chooses first.
