  1. Um yes I had never auditioned a speaker before because I did not have enough of a trained ear I.E. I had never heard something that was THAT much better than anything else so I could not justify it, why bother if they sound 90% the same to you? Where I am right now having owned many speakers in a short time I thought I might be able to hear a difference. More important than any hearing experience i accrued was that I finally found a speaker I was happy with. When you hear something you like and are considering getting rid of it for no fault of its own sonically you are obviously going to be more careful then if you are ditching something with a fault you want to fix. Example, the Paradigm Studio 60 v3's showed excessive sibilance and some breakup at higher volumes and that is waht sent me on my journey to JTR's. So situations change, experience grows and old attitudes sometimes need to be adapted to fit new situations Second, I am not bashing, I directly copied and pasted for what I wrote here and in the klipsch thread at AVS. Ni ether of those posts was mean spirited. I posted my first review of the 83's in search of guidance to see if I made an error. the second review was posted to follow up on the guidance I was given. Positive or negative, the people who invested their time in me by answering my questions have a right to, if not an interest in, knowing my end decision. If posting it over in the JTR thread offended you then I applogize but if you check who has posted most in that thread I am one of the more frequent posters and thus I have gotten to speak with many of the other owners. Because it is a niche group it has raised some questions as to why my speakers were up for sale. I felt it appropriate to share my process with my acquiescences in the thread. If I mentioned future owners well, yes, I did promote ?JTR right in that phrase but don't we all have the right to promote a company and an owner who serves us well?
  2. condensing to other thread - deleted here
  3. I went by 2 dealers. 1 of them had no discounts and the other said they had nothing left to sell. It looks like klipsch REALLY planned this switch well and let dealers know properly. There doesn't look to be a big closeout happening so they should be holding value right now on the used market but like tohers said when the new line comes out... Who knows.
  4. Yes but I heard the rf-83's and the heresy 3's were better imo. Also I had triple 8's before and they are just $3000 for 3 speakers and sound 95% the same above 80hz as the quintuple 8's (maybe someone with a golden ear could get some mid range differences - all I notice is more ease in the quints). that makes them cheaper than the rf-83's and rc-64 by far. The 83's were some of the worst speakers I have ever heard. For instance I would give my old paradigms studio 60 v3's an arbitrary 7.5/10and my infintiy beta 50's a 6.5/10 and some old boston acoustics I had a 5.5/10, The heresy 3's were a 5/10 and the rf-83's like a 3/10 as compared to my jtr's which I give a 8.5/10 for music and a 9.5/10 for movies (I don't give 10's ha)... Klipsch obviously isn't my cup of team DARN! Would have been nice to save some money but I am not switching to anything unless I find a 8+ on my own little made up scale for under 1200-1300 for the front 3. If I get this new job I think i am going to be immature and stupid and keep my toys over what I need to do. In the end I have no family or children and it is not directly health related so I guess it is my prerogative to judge what I get value and enjoyment from... Even if I own rich people speakers while renting a room and not having a car haha
  5. Well I went to another store and heard Heresy III's... Something was wrong, the same "static" was there as the rf-83's in another store. 2 people in the store with me (who I didn't know) went "jeez, not very good". I said "static right" and they said yeah its all fuzzy ect. Turned down the volume and it was even more apparent. I went and listened to some polk lsi15's in another room and they could not play my demo disk and were playing some jazz type stuff and sounded pleasant and interesting but my demo disk was a challenge so it was not a fair comparison. Soooo I get home and listen to my disk (Clapton, one more car one more rider) and INSTANTLY the problem with the klipsch because describable, clarity and separation. For instance i not realized that the "static" was the cymbal bleeding into the electric guitar due to it being a live recording. On the JTR's both sounds were there clearly, on the klipsch it was more like a hybrid guitar/cymbal that sounded blurry and like a hiss. At another point there is some background hiss which again I hear as high frequency clarity issues on the klipsch but on the jtr it is clear the recording just picked up some electronic noise and the clarity of the instruments stayed despite the noise. Finally in one portion the voice got a mid muffled for a couple lines on the klipsch, on my jtr's I went ah! he moved a little closer to the mic for a minute. Really the clarity and separation is what the problem was, without going back and hearing it on my jtr's again I might have called them "bright" but now that I have heard the difference it is NOT that they are bright they just don't have the clarity that the jtr's do and the high frequencies blend together making some things sound like static or bright.
  6. Yes and no. I have the quintuple 8's and havehad them for most of this year (forget exactly when, feb. or so?) but the triple 8 is directly from jeff. So I will either sell it or take delivery. Also, I know no one else can make my personal value judgment but long story short - There are a few things in my life I could really benefit from having the money. not wife, family, food, rent ect but I don't own a car right now and there is something I have been meaning to get taken care of that this money could help get me moving towards. I am willing to step down IF the money is right and the sound is passable. Maybe the dealer was set up poorly but the rf-83's were not close to passable for me (the dealer was a chain store, 6ave so I am sure they set up pooooorly) and were over my budget but I just wanted to get a feel. I am hopefully going to hear the heresy 2's today and might stop by another dealer to hear some more klipsch but it wasn't even a middle ground. something was wrong either in the speaker, the setup or my expectations.
  7. The price i got was insane... I really can't share it in public, there was a shipping error and I got like 33% off and that deal will NEEEEVER happen again. I figure I can get 2700 for them used.
  8. What would you consider upper end? Cornwalls? I am thinking if I get this job I just keep my jtrs if the heresys don't do it for me. I love my speakers but the money would go a long way in my life right now, job or not BUT once I get into spending too much (arbitrary number of about $1200 for 3 fronts) the downgrade is nno longer worth the financial gain I am also considering JBL MRX512's but I would proabbly have to buy them blind eh
  9. Fwiw, a mid level Yammi is not comparable to a THX Ultra II certified AVR and that could be the problem...Regardless what you experienced, the static and shrillness tells me something was definitely setup wrong...Take an SPL meter with you and make sure where you audition knows how to set it up properly...That's the beauty of auditioning the speakers before you buy them...Btw, if the RF-83s sounded shrill to you, the Heresies are going to explode your eardrums. Really??? Everything I have seen says the heritage, line is much lessy "honky" or shrill or harsh than the RF line
  10. Sorry, I was actually referring to the dealer. I was saying that if the dealer's room has poor acoustics, that could effect the SQ of the RF-83's. Sorry, so was I by extension... I.E. my room is pretty bad but my speakers still sound good therefor bad accoustics should not a factor (both in bad rooms for instance). The dealer room is pretty decent though as I have heard other speakers in it BUT I also can't confirm that my room is bad.
  11. My room is set up pretty damn poorly but my speakers sound nice... I need to get REW in here...
  12. I jsut went an dlistened to some rf-83's and OUCHeither something was wrong or my jtr's are just in a different WORLD. The speakers just sounded... like speakers, very much like it was clear it was not live and no soundstage also there was a shril nature to them. They were only being driven by a mid level yamaha avr but all I use is an onkyo 805 and my jtrs sound great. I put on clapton accoustic and it just lost all the touch and presence I was use to. I tried another cd and it was clear something in the clain was adding static but even ignoring that I didn't get what I expected. I'll go hear the heresy 2's tomorrow to make sure. I MIGHT be getting a new job tomorrow but I could still use the money for a few important things I need to take care of but after hearing the jtrs I think I am spoiled.
  13. Generally 116dB peaks at one meter are considered reference (I might be wrong that might be at the speaker). That means at about 3 meters (add 6db) and a listeing level of -3db, I would need peaks of 119dB at one meter. This isnt all the time but from time to time having the ability (fin with friends over/show off) it is important but I do regularly go to at least -5dB.
  14. Thank you. My room is sort of small. I sit apout 7-8 feet away (9-10 max by eye). My sides are jbl 8340a and I have no plans to move them, they work well and are a very good value as well as easy to mount up high. I really only need the front 3 also because I have no room for in the back and my amp is much stronger when only run 5.1 (onkyo 805). I might throw some behringer 2030a's in the back on a shwlf as rears one day but thats another issue. So you would take hersey 2's over 3's for the price. What if the 3's were $900 shipped for 2? The2's are only $350 for 2. Getting the third of either puts me in a bad place, tiehr over budget but easy to get with 3's or under budget but impossible to find with the 2's... Also if I get the 2's I will plan to get the crites upgrades so I need to add like 250-450 to the overall cost for all 3 (depending on new or rebuilt crossovers)
