  1. Would like to thank Amy and klipsch technical support for fast and friendly service. ! Tom McNicholas (my 4.1's are kickin nicely again)
  2. Also, I noticed that a friend of mine's 4.1's play out of all 4 speakers using line in, whereas mine only plays out of two. With the frequency I use that port I don't really care but it'd be nice to know if mine is defective or not, or maybe his? Tom
  3. The other day (after 3 months of flawless operation) The speakers started to crackle and distory horribly. I plugged in headphones to confirm that it wasn't the sound card and they were fine. I plugged them into the pre-amp pod and that was fine as well, so the root had to be the speakers themselves. I found the back of my ProMedia sub gets hot enough to burn my hand. After a brief cool down period (to room temp) I plugged them back in and everything is normal. Is there anything I can do to prevent overheating? I have since moved the sub out of the closet (I'm in a small dorm room) to under the desk where a cool draft comes in for the time being. Thanks Tom McNicholas
  4. I set powerDVD to SPDIF output and the SB Live 5.1 does the decoding to my 4.1's, although i notice that the sblive is designed for cambridge speakers because the seperate subwoofer out is active, but if you turn off redirection it works fine boy i bet that was confusing, get the game theater xp tom
  5. Ahh I was just confused a little bit, but as i still understand it then, the Klipsch's are DESIGNED for the SBLive! Card. I mean its not a "combined" center channel and sub signal. When you plug a stereo cable into that jack whatever is "Left" is the Center, and whatever is "Right" goes to the sub, or vice versa. Which of course then a Y adapter will split it correctly for those with one of those other sound cards that probably work better. I gotcha, thanks Amy. tom
  6. The sub is bigger, more powerful, and there is a center channel. You wouldn't believe what I just rigged up in my room Anyway, Dayton, I think thats your second post stating something about the wires? it doesn't make a difference whether its clips or jacks, the clips will for sure make a better connection. As to crackling with the jacks, you know i can't tell you the last time i had to pick up my speakers and fiddle with the wires while watching a movie leave them be, and they don't crackle, mess with them, and they do. But clips will be nicer, its not that much an improvement. tom
  7. As I understand it a 5.1 System has 6 connections. Fronts L&R, Rears L&R, Center, and Subwoofer. Now.... does this mean the 5.1's will have 4 cords? I mean it took me a while (and some fiddling) to understand how this thing would hook up to my SBLive! 5.1. As I understand it, when set to Analog 5.1 the Sound Blaster live puts out fronts, rears, and then, on a single cable, but still seperate signals, center and sub out! Soo.... as I can figure it this new Klipsch 5.1 is going to have these four connectors. The fronts and rears will plug in like the 4.1's and the other two cords, sub and center, will have an adapter that plugs into the Center/Sub Out. Now of course i bring this up because not everyone uses the sblive, for instance the hercules game theater HAS all 6 outputs. what then? thats what i said there would HAVE to be an adapter to accomodate the live! and not the other way around. Now if anyone understood this, particularly amy, can you confirm? Also, any word on an upgrade program from 4.1 -> 5.1? Tom AIM:Benge5X
  8. Sorry I can't help but i have a similar question thought i'd post it here, does Radio Shack have wall brackets for them ProMedia Sats? tom
  9. K6-2 450 <----- SB Live Value ( not 5.1) Klipsch Pro Media v2 400 ( soon to be 4.1 ) 2 Fisher STV-873's on front channel 2 Fisher surrounds on rear channel We really gotta get you something more to chug on the processor there, they're dirt cheap these days, don't ugprade to 4.1's get a Tbird or something man. You'll appreciate it, the K6-2's multimedia capability blows monkey nuts. If it helps put it in perspective my 450 K6 was beaten up by my parents 300Mhz P2. I traded. Tom (but the rest of that looks nice though )
  10. I believe you can just purchase a new one, click the shop button on this website, it's 50 dollars. Tom
  11. Dorm fun? The guys across the hall from me first semester had 4 sets of Bose 301's set up. Yeah. holy **** . They watched US Marshalls and it shook my door open. And that was a damn DivX with only stereo sound (i didn't ask how it was set up). Well here you go. I believe PowerDVD3.0 (find it on net, pssst thats illegal) is able to use hardware decoding, at least it used my decoder card, i'm sure it could use yours. The SoundBlaster Live 5.1 should be able to send a Digital signal out to the reciever of your choice providing you have the right cables. OR You hook up some kind of computer speakers and let the SBLive be your reciever. It will do it. I make some noise with my ProMedias, they're more then the average person needs, but if you insist on overkill, go get the reciever and some speakers and a powered sub and blow the walls down. Also, being a resident assistant now, note one thing, psychotic residents cannot be stopped from killing you in the middle of the night. Be nice with your speakers. Tom AOL: Benge5X
  12. >>Klipsch is sounding more and more like the ABit of speakers!<< Running ABit KT7A RAID overclocked for almost 5 months now, best board i've ever used, maybe their Pentium line sucks? Tom
  13. Will Klipsch be offering a deal where they're 4.1 fans can upgrade to the 5.1 system by sending back the sub and the pre-amp control pod and some money and get a center, new control pod, and sub in return? I don't need a final answer, a hint will do An already pleased customer Tom McNicholas
  14. I used the CD that came with my SB Live 5.1 and installed it under Win2K, went to audio HQ and all four channels activated. Tom (my only gripe was that the computer was so damn touchy with the volume in win2k, either really quiet, or really damn loud, which is why i run ME, which hasn't crashed or been bitchy at all)
  15. Hi everyone, I'm wondering because I'm not sure. What does the "surround" knob on the 4.1's actually modify, the timbre of the sound or the level of the surround channels? Also, using a Sound Blaster Live, are there any other options or little things I should turn on, or set levels to for the best performance? Reply by email would be best! twm1010@tntech.edu Thanks! tom
