  1. In the download section of this site the manual for the Chorus II is available but not for the Chorus I. The manual includes a response graph. I would like to find a frequency response graph for the Chorus I. Does anyone have the manual with one in it or one from another source? Thanks, Wuchak
  2. I'm going to order the complete Crites works from Crites for the Chorus, the crossovers and tweeters for both mid and tweeters so I can do the upgrade on my Christmas vacation. I can't wait to hear them once the new components are installed. I really like them now but they are missing that magic on the top end that I'm hoping the new crossovers and tweeters will have. Then I can get off the "speaker quest" and just enjoy the music. I see from your sig that you installed tubes in the ports. Can you please tell me about this mod? What it involved, what you used, and what the sound difference was? I might add that to the list of things to do while they are pulled apart. Once the upgrades are done they will get either smoked glass or polished granite for the tops since someone foolishly used them as plant stands. The rest of the finish is excellent but the tops are a bit messed up. I think it will be easier to dress them up and hide it than to fix them. Putting on veneer is beyond my basic carpentry skills.
  3. Thanks Guys. I would have bought them and tried them but it seems they are gone. Today I get to pickup my Aragon 4004 from the shop and try it with the Onkyo P-304 preamp into the Chorus. I'm hoping that it sounds amazing enough to make me forget tubes. As much as I like the sound I find them to be a major PITA. I just want something that sounds great that I can run all day and every decade take in for a checkup.
  4. Can anyone compare the Chorus I with the Forte II? There are lots of comparisons of the Chorus II with the Forte II's and Forte I vs Forte II but I don't see a Chorus vs Forte II. I'm asking because I got a pair of Chorus last week and they are really growing on me. Then a pair of Forte II's came on CL for a good price. I am tempted to grab them but wondering about placement. My room requires the speakers to be placed several feet out from the back wall because the wall is all book shelves and the entrance to the room is in the front right corner so placing a speaker there would be make it impossible to get into the room. The Forte II's are supposed to have much deeper bass than the Chorus, which is my main reason for wanting to try them, The Chorus being front ported works well placed out into the room. I'm concerned that placing the Forte II's out into the room with the passive radiators would result in a loss of bass and bring their level down to that of the Chorus. They also use different horns but there seems to be some disagreement as to which sounds better. Any thoughts and input into the merits of one of these speakers over the other is welcome. If these things were not so big and such a PITA to move around I would just grab the Fortes but if there is little to no improvement to be had it's probably not worth the effort.
  5. Thanks for the help! I'll give it a try once the Aragon is back. Between my amps the Chorus definately prefer the Anthem. The sounds is, well, amazing. What I've heard about tubes and Klipsch is true. The Music Hall sounds nice, just not as alive. The speakers are "waking up". They have been stored for years without being used. I can hear them loosing up and coming back to life.
  6. THE QUESTION My 25 wpc tube amp drives the Chorus to hearing damaging levels at under 1/2 power. I have an Aragon 4004 amp that I picked up a few weeks ago of CL at the shop for repair. I was going to look for a pair of Maggies to run with it but the pair of Chorus popped up and I snagged them. Given the incredible sensitivity of the Chorus would an amp like the Aragon that delivers 200 WPC at 8 OHMS be serious overkill for the Chorus or would there be some benefit to that extra power on tap even though I could never really use more than 15 watts in my room? BACKGROUND Yesterday I brought home a pair of Chorus speakers that were on my local for Craigslist for $200. I just happened to check CL right after they were posted and was first to respond. When I got there to pick them up an hour later the seller said her inbox was filling up with responses. All drivers work, the grill cloth is in excellent shape although one of the Klipsch emblems is missing, the surrounds are in good condition. The veneer is very dry as they have been sitting for a long time unused but repeated application of lemon oil over the next few weeks should bring back a nice glow (and it makes the room smell nice). The veneer along the base has come loose and split in a few places but it's all there so some wood glue should take care of that. Someone used one of the speakers as a plant stand and there are some rings and some bubbling on top of that one. Once it's properly oiled again and pliable I will try flattening it using an iron and instructions I found on a woodworking site. It also appears as though the particle board under the veneer has swelled so there will probably always be a bulge there but getting the veneer to lay back down will make it less noticable and prevent it from being peeled off. I have wanted to try a pair of the classic Klipsch speakers since my Dad bought a set of Forte II's and some McIntosh gear to power them six months ago. He lives 1/2 way across the country so I haven't heard them in person but he loves them and this might sound strange, but they sound amazing through the phone.: ) I have only had them hooked up for an hour so I will refrain from making any premature comments about the sound. Once I live with them for a month then I will be comfortable commenting their performance.
