  1. Ear...thanks for putting together a reply to my question - I appreciate it! Am I crazy for wanting to keep my entire system Klipsch? I don't want to be blind to something better, but I've invested alot into this system and I hate to break it up with other speaker brands. You mentioned the RSW-15 is a great music sub, slam etc. So, that's what I need, and it's a match to my system - and I've found a pair new for about $1100. I think that's a great price - am I right? Or are these low because something newer is coming out and they're discontinuing these? Regarding the cross-over points and matching, it looks like Klipsch is saying the 15 is a match for the 7s, and based on your response, they should be adjustable to cover quite a bid down from where the 7s stop. I looked at the specs: RF-7: 32Hz-20kHz±3dB RSW 15: 19-120Hz±3dB And am wondering if I have this right. The 7s go 'down' to 32 Hz and the 15s go down to 19Hz, right? You had remarked about the 15s 'don't really need much below 25Hz'. Don't the specs mean they go to 19? And, the pipe organ comment - how low does the pipe organ go? Does the 15 just crap out below 19 - or is it just not heard? What happens if I do play pipe organ music?? ( I do have some...believe it or not)!! Finally, regarding the crossover, would I then need to set the 15s to go up somewhere to 32Hz - to match the 7s, or if I want them to help out the 7s in the lower ranges, I would raise the crossover a bit higher, right? Thanks again for any replys....I'm really new to this and want to make the right decisions - which is why I chose Klipsch, because I figured I can't go wrong! Randy
  2. I wanted to add something to my post that I had left out. Regarding crossover points between the RF-7's and the RSW series, do they all match up just right? Not sure of the exact terminology, but I know the RF-7's go down to a certain point. Is there an exact matched sub that meets the RF-7 at that low point? Does this make any sense? Thanks in advance for any help! Randy
  3. I am needing some advice on which sub to get to match to my Reference Series speakers. I currently have this setup: 2 RF-7s 1 RC-7 2 RS-7s 1 KSW-12 I use this system for Home Theatre and to play dance music - loudly (when I can!) I have these in a basement now, but will be moving them to a larger room so this system can expand a bit in sound - area is too small right where it is now! I want to buy a sub to match the system. I'm more interested in matching these with Klipsch - so I have a completely 'matched' system. Any advice on which one to get would be appreciated. I'd also like to know if I should just wait to see if new speakers are coming out soon. Thanks for any advice in advance! Thanks, Randy
  4. Had something tragic happen this day at this time, and was just wondering what was going on.....
  5. May I ask what was significant about this date and time? Thanks, Randy
  6. You guys are awesome. Thanks for the advice ...and Forrest...I'm definately getting one of the RSW's! Since I've got two independent systems (RF7's & KLF-30's) I'll have to keep the KSW-12 for the KLF-30's for now. Once I get the RSW paid off, then I'll upgrade the KSW-12 so I can have a better match for the 30's. Off to get that "Y" cable.... Randy
  7. Two more questions while we're on this subject. I want to make sure I've got the KSW-12 hooked up correctly. On the back, the LINE IN has two jacks: L/LFE and R. On the back of my Amp, the Sub-Woofer RCA (from the 5-channel area) is currently connected to the L/LFE using a Monster Cable Sub Woofer rated cable. Is this connected correctly? What is the R for? Should I run some speaker wires from my main to the speaker wire inputs also? What would this do? I've read that the LFE is only for DVD, but when I play CD's on my DVD player, I get sound out of the sub even though it's connected to the L/LFE. Secondly, there is a 'Phase' switch...0 and 180. I've got this set at 180. Is this correct? Maybe I should take out that manual.... Thanks for all the help! Randy
  8. Bob, Thanks for the suggestions. How much is the amp playing into this? I have a Yamaha RX-V800, and the documentation states: Minimum RMS Output Power (0.04% THD, 20 Hz - 20 kHz) Main: 100 W + 100 W (8 Omega) Center: 100W (8 Omega) Rear: 100 W + 100 W (8 Omega) Maximum Power (EIAJ) 10% THD, 1kHz) Main: 140 W + 140 W (8 Omega) Center: 140 W (8 Omega) Rear: 140 W + 140 W (8 Omega) Should this be adequate for the 7's? I wonder if I can run this amp in non-5 channel mode and send more power to the main's. Will have to check this out. And, about the sub. Well, I broke down and bought a pair of KLF-30's (Love these speakers too!) and I've placed them upstairs in a non-home theatre setup. So, now I have a place for my KSW-12!! And...that would then leave a gap in my home theatre on the sub-side, so I guess I'll just have to budget for and get one of those sweet RSW-12 or 15's! I will move the crossover to 50 as you've suggested and see what that does. Thanks for the suggestion. Randy
  9. Ok...got the RF-7's in, and here are some initial thoughts. My Klipsch system is really a Home Theatre setup (used for music also): RP-5's, RC-3, RS-3's and KSW-12 (and a Sony 57" Widescreen). I've gotten a great deal from my dealer to upgrade to the RF-7 line (not sure on the sub just yet...$$$$$). So, I'll be moving to the RF-7, RC-7, RS-7. Only the RF-7's are in. The others will be replaced as they make it into the store. Here are some random comments: - Wow. Beautiful looking speakers..didn't even put the grills on! The Copper woofers look really nice. A bit wider and taller than the 5's. - Much better imaging than the RP-5's...had to make sure the horn tweeter was actually working by getting up to it. A nice 'throw' factor where the upper is thrown out in front of the speaker (not sure what this is technicall called, but imaging is what I think this is referred too)...nice Klipsch sound coming through here. - These baby's can take the power....all you can give them..and then probably more (I guess there must be some limit)! They just Give..Give....and GIVE! Awesome on the volume side. So, that's all fine and dandy. What is still out for the jury to decide? My comments below aren't a direct criticism of the speaker itself, because some of these things might be fixed by various setup option. Any help here is really appreciated by the more educated in the group! - Biggest problem is that pumped full of volume, these baby's rock..and rock with alot of finesse. But, at lower volumes, I lose the mid and low warmth. I have my KSW12 at a level of 8, and Low Pass at 100 (is this a good setting?) From what I've experienced, it depends on the source...these speakers are so true that if you have a crap\mediocre source, it sounds like a really good mediocre recording! So, this may just be the nature of the beast. I'm wondering if Bi-Wiring would give me more mids??? - Speaking of Mids and Lows....I think that overall, there could be 'more'...it's almost as if the tweeter horn is overpowering the woofers...a good overpowering...but overpowering. I want more kick from those 10" copper beauties sitting there! That's about it for now. I need to get these babys broken in...maybe this will help with the mid\lows. Overall, these are the highest quality speakers I've ever owned. I'm SO proud to have these babys and I'll be showing them off every chance I get. I can't wait to get the set complete...it's driving me crazy to have those 3's in the center and surround. Oh well...I hope the rest are in soon. Last comment. I think it's SO true that you really need to listen to the speakers and make your own decision..based on your listening preference. We all like different things about the output of these speakers, but one thing I can say, is that with Klipsch....it's ALL good! Man...is it good. The reference series are my first Klipsch, so I might be biased here, but I'm catching on...and grabbing a pair of KLF-30's in the next day or so...just because I've heard them..and I LOVE what I heard! I love my Reference for my Home theatre, but for my pumping club music..I think the KLF-30's just might do the trick (although the RF-7's......sound DAMN good pumped up!) Randy (in Klipsch heaven..in Colorado)
  10. Pete C..thanks for the information..very helpful! I'm probably a bit away from getting the Heritage series speakers...maybe the LaScalas. I need to pay off the RF-7's, RC7 and RS7's (see below)! I've found sound KLF-30's for about $845 a pair...so I might move to these for my other room that needs speakers (other room with the 7's is my Home Theatre room) until I've paid everything off and can go for the gusto and get the Heritage series! What do LaScala's usually run? Are these the ones I should get for some good slam\kick in the mid and low? How are the uppers on these? Anyway...I just got my RF-7's...they're still in the SUV, so I haven't heard them yet. I hope they've got the slam\kick that I'm looking for from Klipsch....basically what I've heard in the clubs. I'll post later tonight with a review. One question I do have. You mentioned the 'newer Tractix horns'. Have they been redesigned for the RF-7's? Are they different than the horn for the RF-5's? I'm hoping for some BIG sound and Kick...we'll see. Thanks alot! Randy
  11. Everyone..thanks for the suggestions! You guys are great. I just got my RF-7's..still in the SUV! Nice boxes....LOL! I'll post later tonight how they are! I'm also upgrading to the RC7 and RS7 when they get in. Haven't made a decision on the RSW's... Randy
  12. Got it. To make the Reference's three-way, you add a separate Sub-Woofer, but then there's the cross-over issue, right? It would be great to be able to change the cross-over so the 10" woofer cones on the RF-7's wouldn't handle the sub frequencies and let the sub-woofer (KSW12\RSW12) really kick the deep bass out. Any way to do this with these baby's?? Randy
  13. Wow...didn't know there would be a reference counterpart on the subs......thanks for the info! What's the best way to find out the latest information like this? Thanks, Randy
  14. Is this correct? The Legend Series is 3-way: Horn Tweeters, Horn Mids, and Woofer cones for Lows The Reference Series is 2-way: Single Horn for High and Mids, Woofer cones for Lows If this is correct, then the only way to get a 3-way with Horn Highs and Mids is either the Legend or the Heritage series, right? Thanks for all the help! Randy
  15. Are there any internet sites\dealers that carry the Heritage series? I'm trying to nail down pricing of this series. Is this series the only one that has the Klipschorn? Did Klipsch move to the Tractrix horn starting with the Legend Series? What are the differences between the Tractrix and the Klipschorn? Thanks, Randy
  16. Are the Reference Series (RF 5's and 7's) meant to be complimented with one of the subs, like the KSW12? If you don't add the sub, you'll be missing all of the sound below the mid-range, correct? Thanks, Randy (trying to understand all this cool Klipsch stuff)
  17. Is this correct? The Legend series has horns for the mid-range.... The Reference series has dropped the mid-range horns and replaced them with cones..... Thanks, Randy
  18. Sorry for so many questions....I'm just getting into this stuff and I just have so many questions. Part of my problem is that I'm actually 'building' two systems....one is a home theatre system (the reference's that I'm upgrading) and then a sound system just for music (maybe the KLF-30's, Heritage etc.) because I have two rooms I need to accomodate! Regarding your comment: 'The midrange is also a horn on the non-powered 3-ways, which gives more "ooomph" to the midrange than you might hear with a cone-type mid-range speaker.' Are you referring to the RF-5\7's when you say 'non-powered 3-ways' (aren't these 2-way?)? Or the Legends? I think that 'ooomph' that you're talking about is what I'm needing in my mids...and I want to be sure I know what series you're talking about. Thanks! Randy
  19. I've been to several dance clubs (very large) that have Klipsch systems...and they sound incredible. If I'm looking to duplicate this sound at home, on a much smaller scale of course, what series is the best match? Heritage? Reference? Legend? I think, based on the club systems being all Horns (from my observance of the speakers), it would be the Heritage series. Is this correct? And, could someone explain the differences, soundwise, in the 4 heritage series speakers? I think they are all 'horns' vs. cones. Is this right? Also, are the Heritage series meant to be home speakers..run off a home amp? are they all 3-way? Can you really push the Heritage series loud and get good thumping bass...and a good kick\slam in the mid-lows? Thanks for the answers! Randy
  20. Doug and Boa12...thanks for the responses. Doug, I thought the RP-5 WAS as 3-way....Hi, Mid Woofers and Sub, unless that isn't what makes a speaker three-way. I think I need some clarification on the differences between the 3's, 5's and 7's. Is it only the size of the dome, horns, magnets and woofers? The RP-5 added the sub-woofer but took away one of the 8" woofers, but does it also use the Monster cable? Or is this a new thing added to the latest shipping versions of the RF-5 and 7's? I can't find the specs on the RP-5's anywhere, but I've measured the woofer, and end to end of the enclosure is 8", but the actual copper colored area is only 5 1/2 ". Regarding the 'horn', is the Tractrix® Horn a replacement\new version of the Klipschorn? And, did the Reference series do away with the mid-range horn and replace it with the Cerametallic woofer cone? Are the Heritage series the only speakers that have the Klipschorn? I'm not sure if what I think I'm missing (the slam\kick) in my References is because there isn't a Klipschorn for the mid-range or because I've got a single 8" woofer cone instead of two 10" like in the RF-7's. Or maybe it's just the crossover? Thoughts on this? Regarding the Legends, do the Legends have the Klipschorn? I can't find specs for them anywhere since they're discontinued. Are the Legends 3-way speakers? Does anyone have specs for the KLF-30's? Finally....here is what I'm debating, and I'd love everyone's input. I've been offered this upgrade to my system for $907 total: 2 RP-5's to 2 RF-7's 1 RC-3 to 1 RC-7 2 RS-3's to 2 RS-7's What I will be missing is the powered sub on the RP-5's, but I gain 1 woofer on the RF-7s and I also gain in size of the woofers (10" vs. 8"). Right? So, this begs the question, will I really miss the powered sub? Well, I also have a KSW12 sub, so I will have a 3-way system with the RF-7's and my sub (if my definition is correct), but I'm worried that if I get rid of the powered sub on the RP-5's, I might not have enough sub. Am I nuts? Should the RP-5's be accompanied by a sub as I have now in my system? I think the better 'match' might be the RF-7's to the KSW12. Thoughts on this? Wow..that's alot. I hope someone is still reading. I appreciate any thoughts you might have. Randy (confused in Colorado...but learning)
  21. Thanks for the link. I have a pair of the RF-5 (I have the RP-5's) that I use for my home theatre, and they sound great...only not enough kick in the mids in my opinion. What is the difference between the RF-5 and the RF-7? Is it only the addition of the extra mid-range speaker\driver? What about the monster cables on the inside...are these the other difference? Also, what is the difference between the KLF-20 and the KLF-30? Thanks alot! Randy
  22. I am wanting to know the differences between the Reference Series and the Legend Series - what difference in sound I can expect, how are they constructed differently. I've seen some posts referring to a differenct construction of the reference series and resulting difference in 'Klipsch' sound that some people are unhappy about (I think it has to do with something about the construction of the mids - maybe not using the Klipschorn???), so my question is, do the Legends retain this Klipsch 'sound' better than the reference series? I don't know how else to say this. I hope this makes sense. I have the Reference series for my Home theatre system, but for music, I feel the RP-5's are missing a punch in the mid an lower levels....will the Legends give me this punch I'm looking for. They have so much more kick\thump in them when I heard them in the store. I think this is the 'Klipsch' sound I'm referencing (the heavy, crisp kick in the mids). I hope someone knows what I'm talking about! I have the chance to buy some Legend KLF-20's for $545 each...is this a good price?? Thanks for all the help! Randy
  23. Strange...I only have speaker connections to the HI-In terminals on the RP's, the Low-In terminals doesn't have anything from the receiver...yet I'm getting sound out of the sub on the RP! WTF?? Thanks for clearing up the Lfe issue, and the attachment. What are your thoughts on Yamaha amps and the one I have (RX-V800) in particular? Is this a good one for this Klipsch system? And....have the Legends been replaced by the RF-7's? And, finally, where to the KLF'30's fit into the Legend line...what others were available? Take care.... Randy
  24. Boa....thanks again for the input. I'm learning alot! More questions: What is the diff between using the lfe inputs vs. the normal speaker wire inputs? I'm thinking, based on your comments, that the lfe is (low frequency?)..hence you connected your sub out from your receiver to your RF's lfe input. Am I right? From your comments (.... u can always use a Y-splitter and/or the lfe out from one rp to the other's lfe in. should give u better, tighter bass & improved lfe), Q: could you explain why I would go from the RP's lfe outs to the other RP's lfe in? Without know what lfe is, it's hard for me to understand. Another comment from you with my questions (...need to do some experimenting, but probably best to set all the speakers to small in the yammy bass management. sub:yes. if you have the lfe control, probably will work best on SW(Sub only). Q: What does setting the speakers to 'small' do? Also, The LFE settings on the Yamaha I have found are: 1. DTS LFE Level, with a Speaker and Headphonse setting.....0db to 10db; 2. LFE Level, 0db to -20db; 3. LFE/Bass OUT (SWFR, Main, Both - currently set to both). I've played around with these, changing the settings to 'small', 'big'....can't really tell much difference. I'll play around a little more based on your suggestions. The Lfe stuff is a mystery to me....maybe you can help..or....Maybe I should read the manual!! The RP's are powered, the RF's aren't. Is the sub the only thing that's powered, or the tweet and mid-horn too? Is it better to have the power at the speaker instead of using the receiver power? Ok...I'm going to look for my manual. Thanks again for your help!!! Randy
  25. boa12...thanks again for the input. For my amp, I've got a Yamaha RX-V800 with the RP-5's, RC-3, and the KSW-12 connected with Monster Cables and the RS-3's connected with regular speaker cable. I haven't set anything on the receiver for bass management...how should that be set? I don't know what Legends I listened too, but they did kick. Are the KLF-30's the ones to get? I didn't go with them because I wanted all my home theater speakers to match, so I got the reference series for all of them. What is the diff between the RP and the RF (as in RP-5's vs. RF-5's)?? Can't find anything on the Klipsch site Here are the settings on the back of the RP'5's and the KSW-12, with some questions also. Any input on these settings is appreciated! RP-5's: Line Level: Normal (12 noon) Bass Contour: 2pm HI-In - monster cable from stereo ?? Not using the Low-In. Is this correct? The subs are putting out, so the must be getting the signal from the High-In KSW-12: Level: 7 Low Pass (HZ): - just over 100 Power: Auto Phase: 180 Line In - Using L/LFE, not the 'R' input. Is this correct? Here is the rest of my system: Sony 57" Widescreen: KP57XBR10 Yamaha RX-V800 Cinema DSP w/ Dolby Digital, DTS Sony DVD: DVP-S500D; using Component Video to the Widescreen, Digital out to the receiver Sony Sony CD Player: CDP-C225 Klipsch: 2-RP5, 2-RS3, 1-RC3, 1-KSW12 So far, I'm really happy with the sound of the system...DVD's are really great. I would still like more kick\sizzle out of the RP-5's for my club music.....maybe the legends would do this for me??? The RP-5's sound great...just don't have the 'kick' that I want with the club music. Are there any settings I can set on the speakers or receiver to get more mid-kick? Thanks in advance for any feedback!! Randy
