  1. first try this, uplug your comp from the wall socket and wait 30 seconds then plug it back and restart. If it is still getting error then put the xp os disc in the cd rom and boot from it [may have to hold f8 or f11 to select that device as the first boot device if it doesn't boot from it]. after it starts the boot process it will stop after loading drivers and it will ask you what you want to do. you need to press r for repair and go to recovery counsel. Log on to your win os after that run a dskchk /r. It may take an hour or more, See what it lists, bad sectors or repaired files ect, type exit, it will reboot. take the disk out of the cd rom and see if it works, if not reboot from disk again enter recovery counsel and log on to your win os and type help. A long list of commands will show you need to repair you boot file, fixmbr is one command that may do it that should fix your master boot record, type exit and retry, if not then boot from disk ect then you will need to view all booting possibilities by using the bootcfg command, Type bootcfg /? there is a space inbetween the bootcfg and the / like in the dskchk /r, the list of useable commands shows and you will querry it and see if 1 exists. there will be other options that you can do but unadvised without knowledge of the format of the boot.ini file. If there is no boot file go to command line and type newmbr and exit restart and if it still not booting you will need to get yourself a guide to using the registry or reinstall xp [which is the easiest way to go) it will take only 37 minutes max and you can keep your old files if the file system isn't corrupted, if it is you will be asked to format the hard drive to get a good clean install. Hope this helps it may work after the unplugging, it's worked for me in the past many times. It clears out you memory and that may be where the error is being stored on reboot.also remove that 1394 card firdt if its still in the comp. oh yeah make sure your ram memory is fully seated into the slots push down firmly and lift up on the little locks to be sure, and push down all other pci cards in thier slots to be sure that it's not just a simple bad connection seeing how you were in that area while you installed the 1394 card.
