  1. Yes I was using 7.1 stereo. I sat in my spot in the theater and toggled through all the formats until I found the one that sounded the best. It ended up being 7.1 stereo. I didnt try straight stereo. The IB definately goes much deeper than the khorns. The theater is adjusted flat. In the range the khorns can go down to they just do an incredible job. I dont know what it is but the bass is cleaner but it may be because of the more open living room.
  2. You need to come by sometime when you are in town and check the room. The IB really rocks. I had to use the Lascalas couldn't get the Khorns to fit with what I was trying to do. No way a Jube would make it.
  3. I have a theater which is about 14' wide and 28' long. I have 3 Lascalas recessed into the front wall and 4 18" subs between them set up in an IB arrangement. I have 2 risers with the front being 12' from the screen and the back being 18' from the screen. Each riser is 7" high with a 1" gap all the way across the front of the riser. The risers are also full of insulation. I use a Behringer Ep 4000 to power the subs an an Integra 70.1 for the others. I use Audessy to balance the system. I also have side and rear Heresy's. While watching movies everything sounds great. I plugged my phone in today and turned on California by DR Dre to rock out. Had it really loud and it sounded great, I thought. Went upstairs to compare on my Klipschorns. They are in a 15' by 30' living room on the short wall. 12' opening to kitchen in the middle of one long wall and a 5' opening to a hall on the other long wall. I have an old HK 7200 powering the Khorns with surround turned off. Plugged in the phone cranked up California and was surprised how the Khorns not only matched 3 Lascalas, 4 Heresys and an ib sub but it sounded better. I think it may be the theater is more closed in and needs treatment but the khorns just sound right. Question is what to do?
  4. The speakers are not tilted, they are basically flat against the wall.
  5. I have side Heresy's and back Heresy's. I also have two rows and the surround just doesn't sound right. I have Lascalas across the front. The sides are even with the back row and the back row sounds much better than the front. The ceiling is 9' tall and I have all 4 surround mounted upside down against the ceiling. Due to the dispersion of the horns I think the sound goes over my head. The front row gets very little surround info. The Heresys are big and stick out a lot. They work much better asthetically on their sides but then the dispersion becomes really narrow. Here is my question. What do you guys think would be the best overall compromise. Horizontal, vertical or maybe basically build vertical Slant monitor type cabinets. This would tuck the cabinets into the ceiling wall corner and angle the drivers down toward the listners.
  6. The flower couch is definately the most comftorable. The two vinyl couches kind of suck.
  7. Anyone close by is definately welcome to come by and check it out. The back room is actuall about 7'x14'x9' and connected to a 6'x12'x9' closet. I have learnt alot on this forum over the years. I think my main question is about the low crossover for the speakers. The IB' sounds great but I really like the horn loaded bass and want to let the lascalas do what they can. I also have the rears mounted upside down but I feel like something is missing.
  8. The second and third row each sit on risers. The risers are full of insulation and there is a 1" gap across the bottom of the front of each riser to create a trap. The lfront speakers are now covered with grill cloth. I will post more pictures when I get a chance. The IB keeps up with the Lascalas no problem. The front wall is full of concrete to make it rigid.
  9. Here is the rears. The room is still a work in progress. I have 3 old couches until I get som theater seats. I also need to paint some drywall patches. The room is 14' x 28'. The Lascalas sit in boxes and the front wall is sealed. Not sure if this is the best arrangement for the surrounds. Would something else be better?
  10. Here is a picture from the side that shows how the speakers are toed and tilted.
  11. I have blankets packed around the fronts which is not shown in the pictures.
  12. The LR lascalas are towed in and all 3 are tilted back.
  13. Here are some pics of my theater. I have Lascalas across the front and Heresy's in back. I also have 4 IB3 18" subs in an IB. I have Audyssey x32 and when it does the setup it sets the crossovers at 40hz across the front. It sets the sides and surrounds ay 60hz. Does this seem right or should I set everything to 80hz. The Audyssey setup sounds good.
  14. Here is my problem, I have 3 Lascalas across the front. My room is 28' long by 13.5 wide and I wanted a 7.1 setup. I was looking for heresy's for the sides and rear. I found a pair of slant monitors and put them upside down in the rear corners. I then found a pair of heresy 1's and put them on the side walls up side down. The heresy's seemed huge hanging on the side walls since the slant monitors fit into the corners. I eventually hung the heresy's on their sides to get them closer to the ceiling. Here are my questions. The slant monitors are too close to the sides since they are in the corners. Should I trade them for regular heresy's so I can hang them more towards the middle of the back wall? Should the heresy's be on their sides or does it matter. Maybe I should put the slant monitors away from the corners on the back wall on their sides at the wall ceiling corner and buy more slant monitors for the sides. I like a symetrical room so 4 heresy's as sides and rears would be symetrical even though they would be big. 4 slant monitors would be symetrical also and when they are on their sides at the ceiling they aim down towards the listener. I wonder what kind of dispersion I get with the speakers on their side. What would you guys do?
  15. Read up on Audyssey. It measures your speakers in your room and sets everything according to that. My Lascalas were set to 70hz which I thought was too high. I seemed to like them at 40hz. What Audyssey does is measures your speakers and sets the crossover to the -3db point on your mains. With my setting I had a hole from 40hz to 70hz. Audyssey x32 also has a bunch of filters it applies to your sub to integrate it to your mains. We watched movies this weekend and it seemed to sound better and better and I quit wondering what crossover point to use because Audyssey actually measured and set it where it needed to be.
  16. Yep it lets you cut every input even the hdmi. It is an integra 70.2. So it takes 11 db cut on the trims and 12 db cut on the input just to get to the volume of a normal speaker.
  17. The Khorns are nice. I bought them about 10 years ago but they just won't work in my theater. I could possibly squeze them in the rear but like the idea of 4 Heresy's better. Several people have brought up the price for the Herest lll. But they use the price for a new Heresy vs a used Khorn. That is why I was thinking used for used.
  18. Thanks T-man that is what I found.I ran the test tones un the reciever and found that it was 87db. This means at 0mv I am still too loud. My reciever has Intell volume which lets you adjust each input so i cut my blu ray player input by 12db. Now 0mv setting should be 75 db and deq should be working ok.
  19. I don't mean i am listening at low volume. It is loud in the room but my MV is at -10 so the reciever thinks i am listening at low volume and cranks the bass.
  20. I spoke with Audyessy and they said a volume on the mike is fine. No different than a volume on your preamp. Since my MV was so low it thought i was listening at low volume. That made Dynamic EQ crank up the bass.
  21. Ok guys still learning Audyssey and getting it to play with the Klipsch. I used the Mic. volume and it worked great. I used it to get about 11db cut across the front. This way MV was as close as I could get it and still not have the trims maxed. We were watching movies and my bass was just way too much. I had the MV at -10 and it seemed vocals were about right but the sub were blowing us out of the room. My reciever has Dynamic EQ which raises the bass at lower listening levels. Since my MV was at -10 the reciever thought I was listening at lower levels. I went into the speaker setup and ran the level calibration. During the test tones Dynamic EQ is ignored. All levels were matched but while watching movies the bass was loud. My reciever also has Intelli volume which allows you to cut or boost the volume for each input. With 11db cut on my Lascalas the test tone was still 87db. Iused Intelli volume to cut the input 12db.That means my Lascalas are being cut 23db to get me to 75db at a 0 on my MV. Man these Lascalas are loud but I think everything is dialed in and sounds awesome. I'm going to post pictures.
  22. Nope. Thes mains stay at -12 no matter what the sub is doing. It tries to get the mains to 75. That is the problem. If it would add gain to bala.ce everything it would work. It aims all speakers at 75 wheather it can get them there or not
  23. I have an IB sub with 4 18" drivers. My sub can keep up. My Audyssey is the X32 version. I raise the sub volume with the sub amp. If I set it to 75 Audyssey leaves the gain at zero but if I set it to 85, Audyssey cuts it by 10. I never knew I had an issue until I noticed all speakers were set to -12 and the sub at 0. I would then raise the sub and Audyssey would cut it back. If 12 is the maximum trim and your fronts are outputting 95, your still 8db too hot. If your rears are outputting 90 then they are still 3db too hot compared to the sub. Audyessy can't balange and integrate all channels since it can't trim them enough. I bought an inline headphone volume control at Radio Shack and cut my Mic sensitivity enough to get the trim off of max cut. I asked Audyssey if this would work and they said it was a good idea for my problem. The vol control was 8 bucks. I didm't know that Audyssey tries to set every channel to 75 but it does. It doesn't look at speaker to speaker balance it just tries to set every channel to 75.
