  1. Craigslist add near by is asking $800.00 for Two RF-82s, 1 RW-12d, 1 RC-10 (hmmm) and 2 RS-3 IIs. All are supposedly like new condition (I'm going to check it out). Anyway, I'm interested in the RF-82s and RW-12d (for double subs in my HT). I need some surrounds, and while I was really wanting some RS-52s, well these might work. I can sell the RC-10. Anyone have an issue with these at this price?

I'm planning on offering him $550. for the sub and RF-82s, but I have a feeling he won't want to try and sell the RS-3 IIs and center on their own, or should I be interested in the RS-3s? How do they work for side surrounds?

    Thanks for any thoughts!

I talked to the same guy! I only wanted the 82s and the sub but he wouldnt budge.

  2. I personally chose a Cinescope Screen since the main purpose of the room was to watch movies, rarely ever used for TV shows so most of my content is 2.35:1 or higher aspect ratio. I did not want grey bars and wanted to have the same feel of a real movie theater. I went with a white 1.1 gain Elite Screen. You can find much of my thought process documented in my HT Build Thread in my signature.

I really wish avs forum was up

  3. Does anyone have suggestions on screens? 16:9 or cinemascope? Screen material/color?

I will have my speakers outside the screen so I do not need anything that is acoustically transparent.

  4. If it were me, I would seriously consider buying used. Some great deals out there.

I second this. I started with a used set of quintet IIIs, sub 12, and pioneer vsx-917 that I found on C list for $400. I then sold the quintets and pioneer for $400(got the sub for free!). After searching c list for a month or so I bought RF-35s and an RC-35 for 450, and RS-35 surround for 150. So I got a whole rf-35 setup and a sub 12 for $600. Just be patient and search, you will easily find what you want.

  5. And we are off and running! I want to know how this sounds when all in place! By the way, where did you get your curtains? I'm going to need two 6 footers at the end of the month.

The curtains are from lowes. That front wall has 4 curtains across. I drilled holes in the wood on the ceiling, put a zip tie through the hole and around a PVC pipe that the curtains hang on.

  6. Youthman- That looks great! While looking at it I got the idea of just drilling a hole in the concrete, putting a nail or something like that into the whole, sealing any open spacearound the nail with glue and mounting the speaker on that. I might try this tomorrow. I'll take a few pictures and show you what I am talking about.

I am still contemplating on a 73' mits dlp or a projector and screen. My viewing distance is about 10-12 ft. I'll watch blu rays, and movies onDemand from AT&T U-verse. I think a TV would be easier, but a 100" would be great.

What do you guys think?.. I'll post some pictures of the space when I get all of the **** out of my basement! (5 full trash bags already)

  7. I assume since you used the word "screen," that you are referring to a projector screen. If I am incorrect, please let me know...use a ceiling mount screen and mount it 6-12 inches in front of your back wall.

I think I asked a dumb question. I kept thinking there is no way I could mount a screen to the concrete wall.. Didn't think about useing a ceiling mount screen.

If I put up curtains, How would Mounting my rs-35s work? I'd like to stay away from getting a stand.

  8. So today I set up my rf-35s and sub12 with bar concrete walls and floors. It did not sound horrible, but it definately didn't sound great. The most obvious thing was very booomy bass. I'm looking into curtains and carpet tile for now.

If I do curtains, I'm not sure how I would put up a screen, any thoughts?

  9. It's been hard for me to learn this, but BE PATIENT. If your having second thoughts, then do your research and decide on what is best. And always be ready if a deal pops up that cant be beat. This the best advice I have got from this forum when it comes to purchasing used.

    Good luck!
