What treatment for my 1990 Heresy cabinets?
DLStryker replied to DLStryker's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
Well... it looks like a very thin coat of lacquer on my La Scalas. Anyone else agree? Could you order cabinets finished with lacquer from Klipsch? Or did someone do this later? -

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm not really at all worried about this set of KG4's. Center caps are pushed in. One of the radiators has a cat scratch hole in the center cap. But, I see that does not effect anything. The cone is sealed from the inside. The bottoms have some delamination of the veneer from what looks like a little water damage. This set will probably end up as a garage speaker. I'll do all the testing on these old KG4's and then do a meticulous job on my prized HII's and also restoring a set of MINT KG4's!! I believe my La Scalas are lacquer finished. No need for any oil on them. -

Well hell..... going to order some Watco Tung Oil now as well!! I'll report back with pics comparing Watco Rejuvenating Oil, Watco Tung Oil and Trade Secret. I'm going to have one "rough around the edges" KG4 that is going to look a little jacked up after I finish testing!! -

I have a set of "rough around the edges" KG4's. I'm going to try Trade Secret that 001 recommended on one and then Watco Rejuvenating on the other. This pics that 001 posted above of the Trade Secret application look great in my opinion. I will report back with side by side pics of the Watco vs. Tade Secret. I will apply the best resulting oil to my prized Heresy's! My Heresy II's are going through a H III upgrade as well. -

Is the Watco Danish Finish added at the end of the treatment to provide a "shine"? -

I just ordered off of Amazon. When I have these torn apart to do the HIII upgrade, I will treat the cabinets. I am going to do one cabinet (HIII upgrade and wood treatment) at a time. I will be able to show side-by-side comparison. I am also going to be able to compare a HII to HIII side-by-side!!! I know it will not be an exact comparison. As the HII drivers and xovers will take some time to burn in. -

The Tung oil sound like a good option for Walnut. It says it is a clear oil that will not darken. I do not believe I would want anything that would darken the Walnut. I see there is a Tung Oil-Finish. Is that what you are recommending? -

Are you talking about this: Amazon.com: Trade Secret Scratch Remover for Wood Furniture and Floor Cover Nicks and Scratches, Camouflage Minor Defects (8oz / 236 Ml)… (Dark) : Health & Household -
I have 1990 Heresys. Model H WO. I assume that is Walnut. Is that correct? What should I treat the wood of the cabinets with? I just picked these up from the original owner a month ago. The gentleman I purchased them of from was 2 years old when his mother purchased these speakers on the base in Greece. She gave them to him when he was 16. I'm guessing they have never been oiled, etc. The wood is in great shape though as far as not a single water satin anywhere.

Yep. Agreed. Very reasonable pricing. I can't wait to get the drivers installed and enjoy the first listen!! I know there will be some burn-in time, but sure do want to hear these brand new drivers and crossovers!! -

Here is the mid. Yes it came with new horn as well. I had read that in some previous kits it only included the diaphragm. -

All I can say is Wow!!!!! I ordered the kit Thursday afternoon and it arrived at my front door mid-day Saturday! -
I believe Moray suggests treating the horns, the woofer baskets and the cabinets.

I have them. Also KG4's and LSA's.

I just ordered the HII to HIII upgrade kit earlier today. While I have these speakers appart, what other modifications/upgrades do I do?
