  1. I too tried them in the Apple store, but could not try them with my own device (they were hard-wired to the display). They sounded so much better when I listened to them at home with my own iPod. In my case, maybe the store with its high ceiling and six dozen people chattering in the store and the fact that the phones were hard wired to their specific devices was the cause for sub-par sound.

No, they don't block out all sound like a tight fitting over the ear headphone, but in a home setting that shouldn't be an issue. They still block out sound to a low muffle. They are really comfortable on my head and I like the sound a lot from these headphones.

  2. It's got to be the four contact plug on the X10i and the Image One (and others with the i-control). You just can't insert the plug all the way with some devices. My stereo, computer, and portable radio/tape player work perfectly, but my portable CD player needs the plug pulled out just a tad to work correctly. It doesn't really bother me that the plug is not fully seated in the CD player.

Some devices must have slightly different sized (in length) 3.5mm jacks. I'd rather use my iPod for music anyway. I really like the volume and skip-to-next-song controls on the wire.

  3. The "over the ear for better seal" is for people (like me) who have an ear canal shaped such that the body of the S4 hits part of the ear preventing a good seal. Putting them upside down changes the angle of the S4 body.

I have another reason I like to use them upside down. When I work out on my stationary bicycle, I put the S4's in upside down, but do not wrap the wires over my ears. This way, the wires stick out into mid air preventing sweat from travelling down the wire.

'Sweat travelling down the wire' is a problem I first had when using the S4's the normal way. The moisture from my head would drip down the wires all the way down to the iPod control. Once the salty moisture got into the control, it shorted the volume buttons rendering it useless.

I did fix my iPod control even though Klipsch was willing to warranty them. I have a microscope and really small tweezers, and the knowledge necessary to take the iPod control apart and clean out the tactile snap buttons. My control now works perfectly. [:)]

Note: Taking apart your own iPod control is not recommended.

  4. I too use an iPod while working out on the stationary bicycle. Some workouts last four hours or more, so good music is a must. The Klipsch earbuds (I use the S4i) are perfect for this. All my music is on the iPod and if a song comes on that I don't think works with a section of my workout, I hit the skip button.

And, thank goodness for good headphones (earbuds) from Klipsch!

  5. I never had wire problems with any headphones/earbuds. The earbud Klipsch wires are just right IMHO (I own two pairs). I wouldn't want them any thicker. Maybe some people are harder than others on their wires.

I even have a $10 el-cheap-o set I use to watch T.V. at night while laying in bed. I've had these for years and never had wire problems.

  6. I know this is an old post, but I'll offer my opinion.

I got the S4i over a year ago and liked the sound. After I sweated too much and rendered the Apple control useless, I went ahead and ordered the X10i. (Klipsch was going to warranty the 4's, but I fixed them myself and still use them with a waterproof cover over the control; I have a microscope & really small tweezers.)

When I got the X10's, I was disappointed with the bass. It was lacking as compared to the 4's. They sound cleaner and are smaller in size, but I was expecting them to have more bass.

So, that's what I think. I still like the 10's, but the 4's have more bass when I listen to my iPod.
