How would you describe the sonic comparison w/Crites' titaniums?
I can't say for certain what material they are made from. There is a woven fabric pattern. I've always assumed they are phenolic. Everything Ive read indicated that's what the Forte's came with from Klipsch. The Forte's these came from were made in 1989.
The difference in sound doesn't really change the overall sound of the speaker but it is noticeable. When I first installed the Ti diaphragms I listened for an evening and ended up going back to the factory diaphragms. I felt like I could hear a metallic sound that was not there with the originals. After going back to the originals, I noticed the tweeters seemed to lose composure at high volumes compared to the Ti diaphragms. At the time, I had a pair of smooth and accurate monitors so the Klipsch were my crank it up, rock and roll speakers. So I decided to leave the Ti diaphragms in. In my opinion, the factory are smoother and blend with the other drivers better at low to moderate volumes. The Ti diaphragms do a much better job at moderate to as loud as you can stand. I also think that the Ti may be preferable to those that have significant hearing loss in the high frequencies.

I replaced the diaphragms in my Forte 2's with Bob's titanium version. I've sold the Forte's and now have no use for the original diaphragms. They are fully functional and fit a lot of the later heritage/extended heritage models like the heresy 2, forte 1&2, Chorus 1&2, I believe all of the KLF series and more.
How about $40 for the pair shipped to the lower 48?

Raising them up did alter the response some. Most notable was feeling more immersed in the midrange. You can get the same effect from listening to factory forte's seated on the floor. The other change was less boom in the bass but the midrange also seemed to be a little hot compared with the woofer. Not in a big way, but I came to that conclusion after listening a week or so. I ended subbing one of Bob Crites autoformer a for the original T7 and dropped the mids 1db. To my ear, the balance was restored and "bigger midrange" sound remained.

I had the same problem with my forte 2's. Ended up getting some hairpin legs, 10" long. This brought the mid horn closer to my seated ear height and made the asthmatics blend better with my wife's decor. Win, win!

Just thought I'd mention this cause I know a lot of us tend to have a closet full of audio treasures.... If anyone is interested in these LaScala's and have a pair of Altec 802 compression drivers laying around, I would be interested in partial trade.

Still for sale. A little surprised no one has jumped on these. Listening to them now powered by a first watt f6 clone that I just purchased from forum member justinsweber. That sound fantastic.

Is this the autotransformer used in the forte 2 crossovers? If so, I have a pair lying around.

Im selling my 1988 La Scalas, black with top grills. K55M drivers and original AL networks as well as a pair of recapped AA networks. The AL's are still screwed down in their factory location, I just slid the AA's in the top hat on the other side of the squaker and hooked up the drivers.
The good-the speakers function as they should and sound great.
The not so good-previous owner must have sat something on the top of them and scraped the finish up pretty bad. Actually, one is not too bad, the other is scratched up pretty good. The scrapes aren't deep, just through the finish, so a repaint would do wonders. There is a sizable veneer chip from the rear side of one. Awesome as is for a garage/man cave or do some finish work and have a killer pair of speakers for the living room.
Im selling them because they are just too big for my small living room. In fact, they sound better in the dining room where I can get further away from them. My couch is about 4 feet from the front of the speaker.
I'll take $900 for the pair with extra AA crossovers. I am am located in Little Rock AR and am happy to audition them.

Are the crossovers set for any attenuation for the squaker compared to factory Klipsch settings? If not, is that a possibility? Such as the minus 3db that's seems to be preferable to some LaScala users.
