  1. Okay...I'm a little confused. I originally ran Audessey on my Marantz for my entire system. Wouldn't Audessey have adjusted the EQ for the fronts anyway? And if I run it with just the fronts, what happens to the settings for the rest of the speakers and sub?
  2. I set my system up with Audyssey also. It provided good balance to my entire system. I include my sub in two channel listening. It provides a nice but detailed punch to the low end.
  3. Okay, after several hours of listening and breaking in. The sound has really opened up and the Quartets are clearly coming alive. I believe they are sonically better, by a margin mind you, than the RF-35's. Funny thing, when I turn on both during 2 channel playback, I really like the sound. They seem to have a little of what the other is missing, but I now fully believe that if I update the mid's in the Quartet they will far outshine the RF-35's.
  4. Well, I've installed new Crites crossovers and titanium tweeter diaphragms in my Quartets. I am not sure how long they will need to "break-in" but I did a side by side A/B comparison with my RF-35's they are slated to replace. The comparison had mixed reviews. The Quartets have more detail than the RF-35's. However, they have a "boxy" somewhat whithdrawn sound. The RF-35's on the other hand have a more upfront and natural sound. I'm not sure which I like better at the moment. I will have to do some more testing with various music sources. It does give me pause as to whether I should continue the experiment. I am not sure I will get much more bang for the buck by upgrading the mids. In my last post, someone suggested the K-701 horn and K-53-Ti mids but does anyone know if they are a direct fit in the Quartet and would they work with the Quartet crossover frequencies? Also, the Quartet has the Tractrix mid-horns and the K-701 is an exponential...what is the difference?
  5. Well, I've installed the new crossovers and tweeter diaphragms. I am not sure how long they will need to "break-in" but I did a side by side A/B comparison with my RF-35's with mixed reviews. The Quartets have more detail and are more crisp sounding than the RF-35's. However, they have a "boxiness" to their sound as opposed to the RF-35's which have a more airy natural sound. I'm not sure which I like better at the moment. I will have to do some more testing with various music sources. It does give me pause as to whether I should continue the experiment. I am not sure I will get much more bang for the buck by upgrading the mids and whether the ones suggested are a good match for the Quartet crossover frequencies.
  6. I've ordered the tweeter diaphragms and crossovers, but I have a question or two before I purchase the mid horns and drivers. Are the K-701 horn and K-53-Ti mids an exact fit in the Quartets? Also, the Quartet has the Tractrix mid-horns and the K-701 is an exponential...what is the difference?
  7. Are the KLF20 woofers a close match to the Quartets in terms of parameters and will they work with the crossovers?
  8. So I guess what everyone is saying is that, with the Crites cross-over and tweeter, and new Klipsch mid horn and driver, my Quartets will kick butt and be a big improvement over my RF-35's...right? Does anyone suggest any modifications to the low end? My woofers and radiators are in good shap, but if I can tighten up the bass with some upgrades I would be definitely consider that too.
  9. What mid-range driver did you get from Klispch? I can't seem to get a response from their parts department when I asked what they suggest.
  10. I never really thought about my center which is an RC-3 II and an obvious match to my RF-35's. I might have to think about replacing that as well if I go with the Quartets. I have synergy series surrounds and never really noticed an audible difference in the back channels.
  11. So, I was doing a little research on the forum and after contacting Bob Crites, I decided to scrap the idea of updating my RF-35's and replacing them with a pair of Quartet's which I purchased in the 90's. My plan is to update the tweeter diaphragm with a titanium one and replace the crossover. I may also consider updating the woofer and mid-range at some point. But before I drop a couple hundred dollars on this exchange, I was hoping I could get some input from members on whether they think the updated Quartets will be a sonic improvement over the RF-35's. These will be incorporated into a 7.1 system but I am really hoping to get the improvement in 2.1 music listening.
  12. Ok. Thanks. I'll take that into consideration. Are there any other suggestions regarding my current RF-35's?
  13. I have a pair of RF-35's I have been using in both 2 channel and surround applications for several years. I have been a fan ever since I bought them, but I recently updated my sub to an HSU VTF-3 Mk3, which completely changed the low end on my system. It is much more dynamic, but it brought to light a much less dynamic mid-range particularly during two channel play back. Any suggestions on what I might do to bring out the mid-bass? I would like to keep the RF-35's in my system, so is there a modication in terms of crossovers or anything else that might work, or should I look to upgrade my fronts? I considered going with the RF-82 II's but they seem to pretty much be identical to the RF-35's. Thanks in advance.
  14. Ok...great. I mean...uhmmmm...WHAT??????
  15. Thanks! You've been a great help! I will let you know what I finally purchase. The SVS website indicated it is redesigning their NSD 12 inch ported sub. It is suppose to be out soon. I may wait to see what they come up with.
