Ratings are done with a 5 point
system. 5 are perfect and 1 would be the worst. 3 is ok 4 is good and 5 of
course is reference level.
Just finished watching all the
movies and would like to give a small review. Before I give my review I want to
be clear that I like all the movies and don’t mind any of the changes that he
has made so the review is about the blu rays and nothing more.
I will refer to the movies with
the #s 1-6 as in episodes 1-6.
The first two movies (1 and 2)
look very good. I don’t personally like film grain so for me these movies
looked amazing. Keep in mind I watch my TV on vivid picture mode so even the
softer parts look very clean, bright, and full of color and detail. If I
watched movies on theater mode like I know a lot of people do then I could see
how they might be too soft but in vivid I give both movies an easy 4.5-5 for
picture.
The 3rd (ROTS) movie is an easy 5
for picture and some parts are as good as avatar. What a fun movie to watch.
For audio these 3 movies are
simply some of the best multi-channel audio on the planet. Just giving them a 5
for sound isn’t enough. I have a lot of great audio blu rays but the work they
did on these is another level of detail wow nice job.
Movie 4 (new hope) is the only
movie that didn’t wow me. The sound was ok but on the really loud parts it
falls apart and even distorted on some stuff. It also had a really brassy sound
that was a huge drop from the clean sounding audio from movies 1, 2 and 3. I
would give it a 3 for audio and a 4 for picture.
Movies 5 and 6 look amazing. It
was like I was watching these movies for the first time (even though I have
these movies over 10 times each). They look so good that it was hard for me to
pay attrition sometimes because I was looking all around at the back grounds
and details. I give these a 4.5 and in some places a perfect 5 for picture.
The audio for 5 and 6 was a great
improvement from movie 4 new hope. Still not the reference levels of the 1, 2
and 3 but better than they have ever sounded and are both a strong 4 for audio.
If just comparing these movies to
other old movies they would rank higher but I’d rather just rate them vs
everything.
Overall I’m actually shocked how
good they did on these. I do recommend for people that watch movies in a
theater type mode for their TV picture to try a vivid or dynamic mode. These
movies have no grain so going vivid or dynamic is really a nice mode for these.
Pre T TPM P/A /4.5/5
AOTC 4.5/5
ROTS 5/5
Original ANH 4/3
ESB 4.5/4
ROTJ 4.5/4

but dual 15s might be overkill
Crazy talk like that will get you sent over to the BOSE forum. You won't hear too many guys around here that feel anything is overkill. You just won't have to turn it up as loud.
I had the opportunity to add a Velodyne DD12 along side my HGS15 and to be honest, I didn't really hear any difference by adding it. Not exactly sure why. I guess I was expecting the entire roof to cave in or something. You will have more surface area with two 12" drivers and if I remember correctly, if you are able to stack one on top of the other, you will dramatically add a considerable amount of bass (can't remember the exact SPL).
I'm sure others will chime in who have much more experience in this area than I.
TheEar....if you are listening, can you post a photo (or someone else post it) showing your thoughts towards "overkill"?
I agree with youth overkill isn’t
really proper klipsch forum etiquette hehehe (jk). Bass is going to be about room
and taste. So I would start with just one and see how it sounds. For me the
magic number was 3 subs. But I have a friend with a small $150 10” polk sub and
he loves it.

Looks
great I bet it sounds awesome. []

The old movies are great stories but there just too old to
hold up to the audio and visual levels of today. But those new movies have amazing
sounds, effects and a sound field that’s shocking good.

Bought the last set of 6 in town for $88.00 today. Pretty pumped to watch them! They are 2.35:1 but only DTS 6.1. Where's the 7.1? Oh well. Should keep the fam and I pretty busy with those and the three bonus disks.
One word on the sound. AMAZING!
Slightly disagree. I have the original trilogy, not the entire Saga. One thing that was obvious to me is that people need to pump the breaks on audio expectations. These films were still made 30 years ago and the sound effects reminds you of that. I have NEVER found my Klipsch gear fatigueing in any way, but after watching the first two films I had a headache. The music, which sounds good, is so brassy that coupled with the very brassy/shrill blaster sound effects it really does a number on your ears.
Make no mistake, IMO these films do NOT sound like any of the newer audio showcase blu rays out there. They may blow away the Star Wars DVD's, they may make your favorite movies of all time sound great because you want them too, but I honestly was let down a little bit by the sound. I know it's all because of the source material, but just keep that in mind when purchasing...IMO they don't sound fantastic, they sound fantastic for their age!
The old movies have ok sound. I was referring to episodes
1,2, and 3 the sound is amazing. (Sorry if I wasn’t clear in my other posts)

The Epik Empire seems to come close to what I want, however, the amp reliability is a big problem. Does anyone own this sub?
I love the empire it’s a great sub and a great value. It’s almost
as good as my svs that costs a lot more than the empire. -
Pink Floyd wish you were here comes out next month finally
on sacd. (Was done a few years ago but never released. Also The Wall comes out
feb 2012 on super cd but no conformation on multi-channel yet. I really hope
they release multi-channel on the wall. Just ordered 3 new ones Gaucho, Honky
Chateau, and Brothers in Arms. Do any of you own these? And how good is the multi-channel
in your opinion. I read these are a few of the best multi channels cds released
so far.

Very nice!

Just got done watching episodes 3 and 4. Revenge of the sith
(e3) picture is as good as avatar and the sound is as good as anything I have
ever heard. New hope has a really good picture
but the sound isn’t even close to episodes 1, 2, and 3. []

I'm not buying it, in a year or so the 3D version should be out, then the howling can really begin.
Another subject for sure but I honestly don't think "3D" has the traction to stay around. My family has rejected 3D for our next tv. We are just not gonna sit around with special glasses on.
you likely wont have to buy into 3d it will probably end up being a feature with every tv set shortly and im right with you on not purchasing a 3d tv
im not sure why many would rant with the star wars bluray? its being edited and enhanced with qualities that were not in the movies previous, ill go one further and make the biggest star wars sin by saying i wish they redid the entire first 3 movies over with new cast to give it a real update rather than continually re-releasing them as a cash crop (i enjoy star wars but the first 3 are somewhat painful to watch by todays standards as with many "classics")
I like all the movies. The first 3 are amazing stories with
epic struggle and power. And the last 3 are amazing effects and audio tracks
that really make you smile though the whole movie (fun). It’s funny you say
that about remaking the first 3. I have said that many times over the years. Someday
I hope they do remake them. They could
do so much to the first one to make it so much better. I can see why lucas
changes stuff he has said he isn’t happy with them yet. It was an 11 million
dollar movie. Even in today’s money that is a super cheap movie. I’m the same
way with music. If the audio sound isn’t really good I don’t like it. To me the
sound is just as important as the music itself. (Probably why I love pink Floyd
so much but can’t stand the rolling stones)

Hey all,
First off I love this forum. I've been following for awhile now and have learned so much. Soliciting opinions for the following set-up:
Mains: 2011 Khorns - cherry (still haven't arrived yet)
Center: 2011 LaScala 2 - cherry (same order)
Now, for surrounds, I currently have 2 satin black KLF-30s and 2010 Heresy IIIs (cherry), for the rears. This is all waiting for me in my garage when I get home (still deployed to Afghanistan for another month). I can't wait to get home and assemble these. I still want a two-channel in the bedroom, so (all opinions welcome) should I get some good cornwalls (cherry) for the surrounds and move the KLF-30s upstairs, or move the heresy upstairs and have 4 KLF-30s. I kind of like the idea of a full heritage setup, but also think 4 KLFs would be pretty freakin cool. So I'll either end up getting another pair of 30s or a pair of cornwalls when I return. This is just for discussion's sake at this point. I'm interested in opinions.
That’s going to sound awesome dude! I’m sure you are very
excited. I’m not sure what I would do but an all heritage set up would be very
tempting if you have the room. What are you thinking for a sub?
Ps. stay safe []

my PS3 stops outputting video through HDMI!!
I tried everything I can think of to get it to work. I had to dig up my old A/V connector to get into the menu to try and get it work, nothing. I swapped HDMI cables, nothing. Tried using a different HDMI input on my TV, nothing.
I currently have the PS3 unplugged and the HDMI cable unplugged from it and the TV. After my wife's done watching TV for the night I'm going to unplug it and re-connect everything in the morning. Some have had success going this route.
I guess if it ends up still not working I can always get the A/V component cable. I used to have that cable a long time ago before I had a TV with HDMI. I believe the video is limited to 1080i but its at least better than the 480i I'm currently getting with the composite cable!
Dude that’s harsh star wars sitting there and ps3 goes down
man I feel for yea. Disconnect everything even the internet. If you use
wireless unplug the router. Then start over with system video set up.

The rf7s in my sons bedroom is my 2ch. Lol. I told him when he moves out they stay and his room will become an office. He's only 12 though.
I would steal them if I was your son lol. I would mow the lawn
for the next 30 years if i had to. [6] -

The reviews at Amazon.com are some of the worst I have seen for anything. 2 out of 5 stars by over 1200 reviewers. I read a few and they are all mad about the details that were changed, or weren't changed, etc. I am very interested in the soundtrack. Heck, that is why I hang out here in the first place. I am a Star Wars fan and a complete Star Trek nut, so I would drop $80 in a minute on it.
What cannot happen, and it really makes me mad is a blu-ray release of STTNG. Another thing I don't understand is what the hell happened to Andromeda the series. That ship had enough warheads to blow up a couple hundred stars. I was bummed when it started getting stupid. What a waste.
99% of the reviews are from before the movies even came out
(look at the dates). Everyone one was freaking out about a few changes made. My
guess is of the 1200 bad reviews 1199 of them will buy them and love them. []

I know some
people aren’t happy with a few changes
Heh that's an understatement. I personally will not buy any Star Wars blu ray/dvd that doesn't include the original theatrical release.
A copyright is held in trust by its owner until it ultimately reverts to public domain. American works of art belong to the American public; they are part of our cultural history.
People who alter or destroy works of art and our cultural heritage for profit or as an exercise of power are barbarians, and if the laws of the United States continue to condone this behavior, history will surely classify us as a barbaric society. The preservation of our cultural heritage may not seem to be as politically sensitive an issue as "when life begins" or "when it should be appropriately terminated," but it is important because it goes to the heart of what sets mankind apart. Creative expression is at the core of our humanness. Art is a distinctly human endeavor. We must have respect for it if we are to have any respect for the human race.
These current defacements are just the beginning. Today, engineers with their computers can add color to black-and-white movies, change the soundtrack, speed up the pace, and add or subtract material to the philosophical tastes of the copyright holder. Tommorrow, more advanced technology will be able to replace actors with "fresher faces," or alter dialogue and change the movement of the actor's lips to match. It will soon be possible to create a new "original" negative with whatever changes or alterations the copyright holder of the moment desires. The copyright holders, so far, have not been completely diligent in preserving the original negatives of films they control. In order to reconstruct old negatives, many archivists have had to go to Eastern bloc countries where American films have been better preserved.
In the future it will become even easier for old negatives to become lost and be "replaced" by new altered negatives. This would be a great loss to our society. Our cultural history must not be allowed to be rewritten."
"The public's interest is ultimately dominant over all other interests. And the proof of that is that even a copyright law only permits the creators and their estate a limited amount of time to enjoy the economic fruits of that work.

All I can say is YOUR LOSS! Just finished watching episode 1 and 2 and all
I can say is wow. They could be the best audio tracks I have ever heard (they
are really that good!). You can take the stuff he does personal but you’re only
hurting yourself (the guy has billions of dollars so going on star wars strike
means very little to him). It’s funny because people want the new hd video and
want the new hd multi-channel audio that wasn’t in the original theatrical releases
and have np with him changing that part. But when he changes something they don’t
like all of a sudden lucas ruined the movies. I have seen the original
theatrical release movies in the theater and I can only shake my head at how
they looked and sound compared to these. What we have now with these blu rays
is a million times better. I couldn’t be happier with the job they did. People change their opinions all the time. I’m
sure we are all guilty of it in our lives.
Can you imagine if you were held to every opinion you ever
had? []

Just got this and it looks and sounds amazing. I know some
people aren’t happy with a few changes but this is a must have. Not sure I have
ever heard a movie with so much going on in the surrounds as ROTS.

Those do look very nice yoth. It looks like the tv shielding
on them adds a good ¼ inch of size and weight around it as seen on the last pic
you posted. (Very beefy though for
sure). Do you have two pairs in the house? I see you have a set listed in your 2
channel. And your son has a pair as well?
-
The old rf7 has odd looking feet as well. To me Klipsch hit the mark when they made the RF series IV feet. those before and those since just don't do it for me.
I think they both look great. I will say plastic feet on a
90lb speaker wouldn’t be my first choice though. The gold metal on the feet is
a nice touch imo. They need to be put up on spikes if you have carpet or they
will just sink down in the carpet and look stupid.

They use different drivers and horns but 3 db is a lot so I’m
not sure. []
-
Wow if they raise the price of the rf-7ii 20% they would
cost with sales tax 4108 a pair.
-
Ok so a week ago I purchased a pair of RF-7 II's and the RC-64 II from the website www.newaudiovideo.com for $3,800 all together. Tonight I just found out that some other guys purchased B-Stock 7's and other Klipsch speakers without knowing it for about the same price I paid. I wen't back to their website and it says nothing at all about whether they're "B-Stock". Anyone else here think they could help me out with deciding whether I got duped? I'll just be dissapointed being that that's not what I intended to do regardless of the quality of sound the "B-stock"'s can produce. Know what I mean?
$3800.00 is not a bad price, espescially since Klipsch just increased prices 20% across the board. There were some crazy deals going on about 1 to 2 months ago, before the price hike. If you haven't received them yet, you could refuse shipment, but I don't think your price was "unfair." If you have received them, the serial # will have a "B" at the end that indicates B-Stock. If yours are B-Stock, I would complain and or ship them back.
I don’t see a markup on most of the speakers just the
rc-64ii. Did they just not change the prices yet on their sight?

I dumb the vivid down a little by
scaling back a lot of the settings from standard vivid to get a custom vivid mode.
But it’s a good starting point for me. I’m not a huge fan of what a calibrated TV
would be. Theater modes on TVs look terrible
to me. Even the perfectly calibrated ones. The down side of vivid though is
that if the source is crap it magnifies the crap. I have noticed that films
with no grain usually look awesome in vivid. Something to try []
