  1. svs is great but the other id companies seem to be outpreforming them for price (their customer service is top tier and their products do preform like champs), ed seems to have some amp issues and just read another person on this forum with back to back amp issues, they do seem to step up and get new amps to their customers though, havent read a bad thing about epik but their product line is very small, with your pricepoint id suggest dual epik empires or dual ed a5-350s, or even 1 if you like that pricepoint, dual emotiva 12s might be another option although they arent going to put out like the other 2

Agreed even though my svs is my best sub the empire is easily
the best value. After shipping it cost me 550 less than I paid for the svs, and
it’s very close in performance. I would stay away from the epik legends though
(the smaller model) they have been having major issues with the amps in them. All
I have heard about the empire is good things though and love mine. If I could
go back in time I might have bought 2 empires and saved about 650 (you save 100
if you buy 2). You’re paying for the name a little bit more with svs than the
other internet direct brands. But svs is probably the best of the bunch in build
and performance. The svs I have looks like it’s built to last 100 years. The
pic below is the back view of the driver in my svs sub. The pic doesn’t do it
justice the driver itself weighs like 80lb.

  2. Hi folksss..

I believed am in love with the RF-7II now ... they look powerful like me :)

Question: For those who own the RF-7II speakers, where do you buy them?

at what price? who is the dealer? I'm in Los Angeles, California, and would love

to know a good dealer and hopefully can get a cheaper price than the MSRP,

    which is ~ $3200.

Also, does anyone own a B grade RF-7II speaker like the link I have here:

Klipsch Speakers RF-7IIB Floorstanding One Pair Cherry

    http://www.acousticsounddesign.com/core/view_BigProduct.cfm?pid=1937&sc=57

~$2400 is great and $800 cheaper than the original but not many mention why not buying

them. Is it worth to get the original grade than this B grade which only different in wood color?

Could someone give me info on this?

    Thanks FOLKSSSS

Great choice in speaker’s I’m sure you will love them. I haven’t

seen any b stock 7s but I know they have different types of b stock. 1. Would

be something like a small scratch that you may or may not see. 2. Could be a

returned speaker that was barley ever used, and then there are speakers that

have the wrong color or finish from the factory. I think you can find them mint

for about that price if you hold out and wait for a good deal. If you don’t want

to wait though and want the best deal right now you might have to go b stock.

  3. I have had great luck with both svs, and epik. The empire is

an amazing value, and the svs I have is on sale right now for 1200(norm 1350

before shipping). You can’t really go wrong with internet direct subs as long

as size isn’t an issue (I can’t put into words how big these subs are when you

get them in your room). If you don’t want a huge box in your room I would look

at sunfire or even def tech supercubs.

  4. Here's the reason I went with a 5 channel even though I'm 100% HT guy. The price difference right now is $170 on the xpa-3and the xpa-5. $85 per channel of 200watt power was just too good of a deal to pass up. I run 7 channels so now my avr will power just 2 channels at it's spec wattage of 110. Now I'm getting all the power that my speakers can possibly handle. It leaves flexibility if I wanted to run a set of speakers outside during a party. I think it will help it's resale value better than the 3 channel. Those reasons may mean something to you or not, but those were my reasons.

Plus you got all the same power across the board so it matches
    that way also.

  5. If you could post a pic or two of where you want to put the surrounds
that would help. I would go rs-52ii or rs-62ii being they aren’t direct speakers
so they don’t have to point right at you. Don’t worry about having too much
power. The rf-5 will take anything your receiver can pump out as long as it’s
clean. If you go book shelf speakers for surrounds then you would have to angle
them down at you. Anything from the RB series would work. I would definitely
add another sub in that room. Book shelf speakers as surrounds will sound
better for music if you use multi-channel for music. But for HT the RS line
    will be the better choice.

  6. Every set up is different so the best thing to do is try

different set ups and see what sounds best. Keep in mind 20-20,000 Hz is a huge

band so 20-80 Hz is a tiny part even though it’s the lowest and hardest part. The

value to me of a good floor standing speaker isn’t to just go lower than a

smaller speaker. They create large clean sound effortlessly compared to a smaller

bookshelf regardless if there is a sub involved (quality of speakers being

equal). A small box will always be working harder to keep up with a bigger speaker,

and not for just 20-80 Hz. So for a bose cube to output 85dbs (even with a subs

help under 80 hz) it will be working way harder than a rf-82 would set up the

    same way.

  7. Yeah thx. I'm happy. Been waning one for a while and when I saw their 4th sale I had to do it. Interested to hear my 63's with actual power

Great upgrade that all your speakers will benefit from. One recommendation
is to have a separate power outlet for the amp. I got bad loop/ground noise when
I ran mine to the same outlet as everything else. I have read others with the
same issues with emo amps. They have the amp gain set pretty high and you can’t
adjust it. Add in super sensitive speakers and you will hear any noise. I fixed
mine by running an extension cord to a different wall outlet.

  8. +1

Expand the cabinet dimensions, add some rear ports, shift the tweeter to the top, and make one of the woofers a mid-range with a 3-way cross-over! I like it!!

That sounds awesome they could have 3 ports in back and on

the midrange driver they could use the black cone style. The only problem is

they would probably end up costing 1999 each lol [:o]

  9. I ordered the pinpoint am40 side clamp mounts. Seems like I have seen them in someone home theatre on this forum. I believe their room was dark red and they had rb's mounted as rear surrounds

    I think youth has them

  10. 5s would be better for an HT application, but you really need to add a center and sub (at minimum). In the end, you're going to end up with alot of equipment to hall around.

I would like to see Klipsch add something between the RF-7 II and RF-82 II, and hopefully they will, but I don't know that they've ever had any luck at that price point. I'd love for them to do the RF-63 II or 83 II, but what do I know. I'd also be great if Klipsch would come out with a 3 way tower speaker. Oh well.

What would be cool is if they came out with a rf-64 and used

the same stuff from the rc-64ii in a small floor standings style.

  11. Keep in mind a couple things when you Say "most of you are not satisfied with the lower Model". 1. Most of those people upgraded from the rf82 system not the rf82ii system. 2. Good luck finding a person that went from a $1000 L/R to a set of $3000 L/R's that will admit it maybe wasn't worth the money sound quality wise. Lol also you need to remember that the rc62ii does not have the same tweeter as the rf7ii's. So honestly if your going to spend top dollar on the rf7ii's then you should be using the matching center channel. If you can only fit the rc62ii then you should get the floor standers that match in the rf82ii's. Now any mix matched fronts will still sound good with the rc64ii IMO.... But many on this forum will advise to timbre match your front 3.

Good point Jason most people that go out and spend that kind
of money will probably try and justify it. They cost 3x more than the rf-82 and
even though they are better top to bottom in build, and sound that doesn’t mean
its value is good for everyone. This is the only $3200 speakers I have ever
owned so I have no idea how they would compare to other speakers at that cost. And
I think that goes both ways if someone has never owned $3200 speakers it would
be tuff to judge the value. Having a friend working at ultimate electronics was
huge for me and saved me about 40% on klipsch. If you asked me 5 years ago if I
would ever pay that for speakers I would have just laughed.

  12. Hi Folkss,

Again great advices from all of you. Thanks you.

Jason, I will keep your advice into my purchase (U never know in the end).

Reference_head, from the picture you share, is your LCD TV lay on top

of your center speaker? Or behind the center speaker?

RC-64 II is wide for my current tv stand and an 1 inch tall on both of it level

that's why I was thinking about getting RC-62 II but will see what happen

when and if I'm going to get the system. Also, if you put your LCD TV

on top of your center speaker, wouldn't that vibrate your tv when it in action?

    BYE FOLKSSSS...

Its hanging on a stand connected to the entertainment center.

I wouldn’t put anything on top of it.[:D]

  13. Rich guy do you hear a big difference in sound xpa-2 vs

xpa-5? I was thinking of getting one but I’m pretty happy with just the 5. Your

    thoughts

I just bought the XPA-2 this weekend, before that I was using an XPA-3 and XPA-5.

The XPA-3 was my first amp and really brought new levels to my system using it for fronts and center and letting my receiver power the surrounds, a great step up for a receiver. This was a very nice improvement to the front 3 and I was also surprised that my surrounds also were improved quite a bit with the receiver no longer needing to power the front 3.

Next I bought my Onkyo PR-SC885 processor so I added the XPA-5. I used the XPA-3 for the fronts the XPA-5 for surrounds, since I had the extra channel I bi-amped the center using both the XPA-3 and XPA-5. The PR-SC885 was a great step up from the receiver and adding the XPA-5 again really brought life to my surrounds. I really did not expect much from the bi-amping but since I had the extra amp channel I figured why not. I had always used the XPA-3 for the fronts for 2 channel since the XPA-3 and XPA-5 are nearly identical I think having the fewer unused channels would be best for 2 channel stereo.

I just got the XPA-2 and haven't calibrated the system yet since trading it for the XPA-3 I will this coming weekend, so I can't really make any fair judgement for HT yet. For 2 channel I think the XPA-2 was a definite improvement bringing better separation, imaging and an overall improvement in music quality, I am very happy with what the XPA-2 did for 2 channel music.

All 3 are excellent amps, I think the XPA-3 and XPA-5 are great amps and have been really pleased with them both. The XPA-2 is definitely a nicer amp and it clearly shows this for 2 channel.

All 3 of my amps have been dead silent with no hiss or background noise. When nothing is playing I can turn the volume up to the maximum and put my ear in the horn or woofers I can barely hear any noise they are extremely quiet.

Congrats on the new amp! After you get some time in with it I

would l would love to hear your thoughts (pm me or a small review if you don’t mind).

I’m about 95% blu rays most is movies and some is live music.

  14. Thanks you for your valuable opinions and advices.

I am thinking like confed mention and go with RF-7 II system.

Save enough money to get the front three with receiver then move

onto get the next slowly. Since most of you not quite satisfy with the lower

model and upgrade later, well I'll just grab one piece at a time and probably

better for me that way cause I don't want upgrade later and have other hobby

to play with. I will come back to get more opinion on other parts. Just want to

save for front three speakers of RF-7 II and Onkyo receiver for now.

Now the next important question, where can I get a better deal than the price

on Klipsch website? Anyone know any good reliable dealer?

Thanks FOLKSS for all your help.

Well I got mine from ultimate electronics that are unfortunately

out of business (had a friend that worked there). I would say your best bet is finding

a dealer who will deal with you on price. Places like best buy probably won’t

do much less than 10% off. Internet companies like vanns have sales that

probably can save you closer to 25-30%. I think I read somewhere that they had

a buy one get one free deal a few months ago (that would be cool). So try and be

patient and aggressive at the same time. When you find a good deal jump on it. As

far as getting it right the first time I agree with that 100%. Great advise

that will save you hundreds or even thousands of dollars. It’s always so easy

in this hobby to talk yourself into the cheaper model (I’m so guilty). But that

doesn’t mean you have to buy the flagship model to get it right. The rf-82 set

up sounds very good and honestly is more than a lot of people need. Not only do

you have to spend more on the fronts but then you need the flagship center, and

rears. Then when you get a sub you will probably want to get a good one to keep

up. And don’t forget about the amp you will want to power all those huge

speakers lol. The rf-7ii will be a great starting point and if you have the

patience and the budget you really can’t go wrong.
