  1. So much misinformation on this forum! Klipsch said the 64ii is timbre matched to the 83.

Imo if you asked them if any klipsch speaker would work with another they would probably say yes. I just don’t see them saying no. if I had khorns and called and said I was thinking about buying an rc-62 would it match I’m betting they would say yup.

Now if I asked if there was a better center I could use for the khorns then I would probably get a different answer.

And who is answering have they put the 83s in a set up with the 64ii and said yea I guess that works or is it a guess or the normal answer to questions they get I’m sure like crazy. I bet they get that type a call all the time (will this work with that)

Again I’m not saying klipsch would give you bad advice cause

I’m sure it will sound good.
  2. the rc64 is mated to the rf83

the rc64ii is mated to the rf7ii

unless they no longer recommend a rc64 for 83s im not sure what they would recommend the 64 for then, would almost have to do a a/b and see what you like then, im sure they would be more than close enough anyway

    RC-64 Center Speaker

    HIGH FREQ CROSSOVER 1150Hz, 1800Hz
HIGH FREQUENCY DRIVERS 1.25" (3.2cm) Titanium diaphragm compression driver mated to 90x60 square Tractrix® Horn

    RC-64 II Center Speaker

    HIGH FREQ CROSSOVER 1400Hz
HIGH FREQUENCY DRIVERS 1.75" (3.2cm) Titanium diaphragm compression driver mated to 90° x 60° square Tractrix® Horn
The new rc-64ii is a two way crossover design different than the old rc-64 but klipsch said that the specs online and manual were messed up was an oversight he said.
  3. There is no doubt that there is a huge fan base of the RF-7's. They were Klipsch's flagship speaker for 5 years. Truly a great speaker.

This is part of what makes klipsch so great so many great speakers hard to choose. As a kid I always wanted the khorns (still do but would be sleeping on the couch) no matter what way he goes he’s going to be happy I’m sure. [:)]
  4. I called klipsch before and they said that my rc-64ii was going to work fine with my rf-82 that i had at the time. I think it is short sighted of them to tell you that they are Timbre matched because they are not.

My ears agree I bought the rc-64ii before the 7s and had the rf-82 set up. It almost sounded like dare I say it a different brand speaker. Don’t get me wrong it sounded good still but the center sound didn’t match the mains sound (rf-82). I’m sure I would have gotten used to it and been very happy. Was just a great excuse to upgrade [:D]
  5. I think that it is important to consider that Klipsch brought back the RF-7s for a reason, instead of making an RF-83ii.

Devil's advocate.....Klipsch probably made that decision because it was more cost effective to make the 7's vs the 83's. Stick out tongue

Amy made it sound like they brought them back because they were so popular.
  6. I can tell you what I personally think. I have RF 62's and they sound really good but they run out of gas (when I'm listening to music 2 channel). Makes me wish I had gotten the RF 82's or bigger. It does a very good job in HT area. At least get the 82's, they will go good with RC 62. Good luck

I had the rf-82 when I had the rc-62 very good match sounded great together. The rf-63 would be a better match to the old rc-64
  7. Lol yes quite a pickle. Well I'm not going backwards to an rc64. I will just listen to the 7's when I pick up the 64ii. I think I'm gonna get the 83's unless the 7's blow me away. Can't imagine they will be worth the extra $900 but we'll give them a listen.

You could always wait for a better price on the 7ii or try and get a set of b stock, or even wait and get used. I’m sure they would sound ok together (83 and 64ii) but the horns are different. It’s the horn from the old rf-64. At this point get what you want the front speakers are your main speakers if there’s ever a reason to spend more to get what you want it would be on the mains. They call them mains for a reason.[:D]
  8. Are the rf 7ii's worth the extra $900 over the 83's? I only do home theatre no music. I was planning on the 7's or trying 3 64's to save some cash. But the 83's would save even more. I know nezff runs the 83's but anyone hear both? Just dropped $2300 on subs and the new 64ii and I still want to go with separates at some point so a $900 savings would be helpful. Allthough I don't want to drop $5000 on equipment and decide I made the wrong choice on mains. Anyone with experience want to chime in? Thanks

I can tell you that the rf-7ii match the rc-64ii perfect in both sound and looks. When I bought mine I had the same questions if the extra money would be worth it. I like you had just bought the 64ii and had the rf-82 set up so it sounded good but I fell in love with the sound of the 64ii and wanted that sound everywhere. A lot of people will tell you about what they know about the old rf-7 I have seen these two speakers side by side the only thing the same is the name. After that everything else is different the box size, (new 7s are a little deeper and 4” taller), drivers, crossovers, and sound are different. Now I have heard the rf-83(amazing speakers) and tempting for sure. But to my ear it was worth spending the extra money. Everyone’s ear s are different so to each his own. Plus it matches the 64ii I had already so that made it even easier. Look around before you buy you can get them way under retail. I bet you can find them 30-40% off (at min 20%)
  9. Hello,

My main home theater system uses RF3 II(2002) for my left/right channels and a RC52(2006) for the center channel.

I love my RF3s, but I'm not to happy with the RC52. I'd say its the overall sound quality and tone I'm not thrilled with. It doesn't match-up well with the RF3s.

Looking at the available products the only option I see, without breaking my credit card, is the RC62

What differences would I hear between RC52 and RC62?

    Worth the upgrade?

Any other options I could pursue?

    Thanks for your help!

    Greg

If you don’t like how the rc-52 sounds with rf-3s you might not like the way the 62 sounds. They both have a similar sound. The 62 sounds better from bigger wider sound but tone wise kind of the same. Might want to get the matching center (might be hard to find right away) could try the 64 tuff not to like what you get from that. And could go used to get price down but can’t return it though if you didn’t like it with the rf-3
  10. Very cool. I know the reviews on some projectors said it was a hassle to adjust the pic bc part of it was off of the screen on some content. So I thought it involved a lot of manual adjustment. But you made it look so easy....thanks for proving me wrong LOL. Very cool though on a serious note.

As far as the screen goes I know you said you wanted a pull down screen reference_head. Did you want a manual pulldown or motorized? (sorry if you posted that and I missed it)

Motor would be nice but it wouldn’t be a deal breaker
  11. ref, I don't usually get into recommending but my Epson 8500 gives a great picture and I picked it up new in the box for $1200 (about 2k msrp originally). My main point is Epson is a good bang for the buck. I hope you don't but any model Epson and it turns out to be a piece of garbage but thats probably not going to happen. Nic

thanks i heard that espon and panny are great value.

  12. I’ve had 7 different center channel speakers over the last 10 years (5 being klipsch) when I bought the rc-64ii I had the rf-82s it still sounded good but it was definitely a different sound. I think the comparison to having a front and the center as a pair of stereo speakers is a great example that I never thought of but is so true. I would live with what you got tell you want to upgrade then look forward to the rf-82 down the road, I had that set up and it’s amazing. Seems like every time I buy a new center I end up buying all new stuff.[:D]
  13. All you RF7ii owners suck! I got my RF62ii's a month ago and now you have me dreaming about an upgrade! Seriously, they are some bad mamma jamma's!!

rf-62iis sound really good. grats man

I had the rf-82 set up before and loved it. Wow now that I think about it. This is my 4th reference set up

For sure Ref Head, I love the set up. By far the best speakers I've had. And the 7's just give me something to look forward to down the road. Your set up looks sweet in that narrow room, just a wall of sound! Do you like one of those subs better than the others?
Wall of sound I like that maybe that should be the slogan [;)]. All the subs sound great the front 2 (svs and epik) are better than the super cube. But it’s kinda a tossup the svs goes lower a little bit louder but the epik is the bigger sound, with more mid bass and probably is the better value (500 cheaper). A lot of people will tell you to stay with the same model with multi subs though. I’ve had good luck they sound great together[:)]
