  1. Hi folks. I'm wondering if there's any further updates to this great thread...and congratulations to JC. I've not seen too many horns like this...and I'm keen to build this...as I believe the 80/90 to 300Hz range to be so critical for a good lisetning experience. THIS link shows a 'similar' horn. May I ask some questions...? 1. was there consensus on the size of the driver chamber? 2. Because of room restrictions, I plan on having the horns placed 'portrait', not landscape. Will this have much bearing on the bass response? 3. Is the driver fitted at the 14cm depth mark? Regards Andrew
  2. Finally got the new Faital Pro tractrix horns, and WOW. These sound superb, with great imaging. Some bass cabinet dampening to play with, but I'm really happy with how this project is going. http://s1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd393/atilsley99/Cornscala/
  3. Managed to get to a good stage on these...now front motorboards in place. Pic here. http://s1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd393/atilsley99/Cornscala/?action=view&current=P6120481.jpg
  4. Finally...got some glue on my fingers and started on the cabinets. I'm using: 19mm (3/4 inch) BB (furniture) grade ply, with Hoop Pine veneer. This is a lower cost veneer...but stains up nicely due to the smooth grain. I had the panels professionally cut, then edge veneered using the proper edger (no hand gluing stuffing around). Solid Oak internal battens for front/rear panel alignment. Plinth is made of 60mm solid Pine, which matches the Hoop in colour. I chose to run the plinth on three sides only..leaving the rear 'un-plinthed.' I did this because I will run cables direct from the drivers through the floor (rear) of the cabinet to the external x-overs. The pics show the preliminary gluing of one end only. The alignment is good. One clamp just to tighten up the butt joints. Internal wood screws are used. For the front baffle, I am getting the cut-outs professionally done...so should have these back on Saturday. I'm using a second baffle for mounting the drivers and horn. This will be glued to the back. I will opt for a grill panel with a retro (aka Marshall amp style) cloth. Internal sound deadening will be acoustic foam on three walls only. Some simple cross bracing using solid Oak will be used for side/front/rear panel bracing. Cabinets to be stained dark, then Bees Wax polish. For this build, I have opted for Bob's two-way design, using the recommended Faital Pro tractrix horn and 1.4 inch HF140 Faital Pro driver. Having trouble with photos, so see Photobucket link here. http://s1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd393/atilsley99/Cornscala/ Exciting. Andrew. Sydney.
