-I had 3 of these OEM diaphragms made by EV - with the copper-beryllium flat leads - I recently installed them - no comparison at all with the k77F or aftermarket diaphragms - they have this consistent tone reproduction of sound in the high frequencies - even at low power - this type of copper -alloy is also very highly conductive -
-the aftermarket and K77F tweeters on the other hand are less clear in sound reproduction - one needs to raise the power to hear the detail of the melodies - hence , as they are always pushed to their limits - they will fail prematurely -

Any advantage with MDF is offset by the fact that as the box ages , you start having issues with the meterial itself reacting to the elements - when it is new , MDF is litterally perfect -edges -corners etc - the veneer bonds on with perfection -
-the labour required to make a perfect MDF veneered cab takes less man hours to produce versus the plywood veneered version -
- humidity on the other hand can play havoc with MDF as it deforms it - plywood cabinets will always have the advantage of being made from several plys instead of fibreboard -

these speakers will be gone in a heartbeat - simply building birch cabinets alone can cost a bundle - then adding 2 woofers -2 mids and horns - 2 tweeters -2 crossovers - yep not cheap at all -

- indeed the Atlas sound PD-5VH Klipsch outsourced midrange driver - and the Phillipines made K77 F tweeter for the Lascala II - both diaphragms are constructed of cloth-based phenolic - my error - my mind was wondering at the same time with a cornwall III upgrade that I was doing -

Since you are having a fan issue -dont forget to look for the direction of the airflow to find the correct unit - the airflow direction is usually indicated on the fan itself -
-until you get the replacement - first takeout your fan - remove the paper gasket over the bearing and lubricate the bearing with oil - sewing machine oil or even better synthetic oil used for power tools -
- if the fan quiets down - great - that means that the fan was on the way out -
-I would call Behringer to see if they have a 24 volts replacement or if your part is under warranty - noisy fans means a worn out bearing section or motor assembly - maybe they were having some quality issues with their OEM supplier
-getting a factory replacement that was tested is important - Digikey - NMB - are OEM manufacturers -
- I have a lot of good luck with BGW replacement amplifier fans , as long as the airflow is the same - BGW X2500 amplifier fans units are front to rear airflow to cool heatsinks - the bonus is that they last for ever as they are truly very well designed -- take care

Decorator series Cornwalls are super -looking - they have this eternal look that will never pass - if you see the current Cornscala fad - it is just that in a more modern version of a Decorator - the cabinet is the same size overall -
- being from the seventies - and if they are mint - their sound is unique so - no I would not touch them at all - if the drivers are working correctly - you have the exact same drivers than a K-HORN so it cant be made any better , this sound is unique - for us purists a rare find - Crossovers are very cheap to upgrade -
-50$ with Bob Crites SoniCaps will bring back the specifications of the Crossover , SoniCaps are also a more modern Capacitor so the sound will be clearer that seventies gear were -40 years of evolution in capacitor technology -
- all you have to do is unsolder and solder 4 wires - 2 capacitors per speaker crossover - or again if you can find NOS capacitors , that could be even cheaper as long as the ESR readings are low -
-some capacitors when they get older have higher ESR readings , and that throws off the specs of the crossover - however if the ESR readings are ok -there is no need to change any original component -
- some GE cans are still out here , a recent restoration of 4 NOS caps cost 12$ - I really like the sound that is generated from the GE cans - a perfect fit for older out of specs oil cans -
- take your time and listen to the speaker - with recordings that you like -the decorators and the newer Heritage series are phenomenal speakers made to last a lifetime - take care

Hy Mike - since you have 3 amplifiers -
1) I would suggest that you try hooking the kLIPSCH CORNWALLS to the 2 other amplifiers - and test to see if the BUZZ is still there - the Cornwalls dont need a lot of power -
2) swap the speakers wiring as well in order to check the Cornwall's with regular speaker wire and the Huge monster cables you have feeding in the AVR - Klipsch ran regular speaker wire for years in the Heritage series with no issues at all - so any speaker wire will do for the testing -
3) do not over test with the BUZZZZZ to avoid possible damage to the Cornwall speakers -
4) if you can listen carefully - try to determine from where the BUZZZZZ is coming from - WOOFER -MID -OR TWEETER -

if I were you , with a new pair of Cornwall III - I would call klipsch and ask them the question - take your time - the guys will most definitely help you - but you have to ask them - maybe you can send an email to Trey Cannon on this forum - as he is part of the factory - good luck -

nope - gone - the kids tossed it out - too late when I got there - they worked hard and found a woofer on ebay - I wouldn't have know if it wansn't for the missing grill -

I am searching for a single Heresy 1 grill with logo - black with copper logo if possible - after an accident , a rocking chair went through the grill and woofer - - the woofer has been replaced - I am missing a grill to restore the pair -

the lascala design is OK the way it was designed - you forget the experience that Klipsch had undertaken while designing the lascala speaker -and even more considering the industrial lascala setup -
-the factory had divised a setup where one could add a second lower bass bin - or even a second tweeter mid section on top - you could go as high as you wanted as long as the bass bins were at the bottom stacked and the same for the mid-tweeter sections -
-the separate crossover section for the LF and HF used in the lascala II - is the other improvement ala KHORN -
-the first error of your design is to mess with the tweeter position - as the sound dispersion will be off - you will be searching for the sound caracteristics like a mad man -
-the new lascala II have a seperate components bass bin and mid-tweeter section design - even Volti designs had a lascala section reversed ala Khorn which according to the creater was very good sounding -
- you design is very interesting in the choice of higher quality components - but in order to properly create a superior sounding speaker versus the original Paul Klipsch Lascala design - you would need an anechoic chamber to measure what you are really achieving as an improvement if any -
-purchasing the newer klipsch made components - crossovers -midrange-tweeter is a sure way to realise your goals - These alone will make you not want to modify the current lascala setup for years to come - and the whole improvements were tested in an anachoic chamber - this factor alone is how sound engineers work today - you can spend a lot of money and be back at square 1 - we have all tried but only a few have succeeded in creating a better lascala speaker since investing in an anachoic chamber is prohibitive- microphones alone can cost 50k -

the original round K77 are a much better sounding tweeter than the later K77M or F to my own humble opinion - they do not screech as much as the newer K77 square as these do hit higher levels - sometimes a less efficient tweeter can be that much more pleasant to the ear -
-the newer gear is definitely more powerful , dont let anyone tell you otherwise - once you will have 2 exact pairs - you will be able to judge the difference on your own - take care

I dont know much about your HK amplifier - it looks like it is a very well built on the inside - but if the amp is bad , it may damage your speakers , from what you are indicating - this hum is like very high feedback going straight into the woofer -midrange and tweeter magnets and rezonating as a hum -
1) -check your wiring as a first step - from the amplifier to the speakers , are you properly connected in the positive and negative terminals -go through the basics of the hookup to make sure that you are wired correctly - I would also check for grounds - if ok go to step no 2-
-2) check your crossovers in the Cornwall - any loose or unsoldered wires -this a long shot as crossovers rarely can create such an issue -but check them anyway - if ok then - the amp is next -
-3)the amplifier looks too high tech to be the issue - but unless a technician gets a look at it - you will not know - do a google search for similar problems -
4) I would call HK ASAP and ask if they have heard of similar problems - they usually log into their databases - lookup the different issues - so they definitely can be of help here - by the way -that amp looks like a gem on the inside - what a beauty - take care -
-by putting the amp away - the feedback is reduced - that is normal - similar to some turntables being close to amps or speakers - I would avoid using the amplifier before getting it checked if the wiring and hookup is ok - blown diaphragms can be your next problems - so be careful-

I would most definitely wait to have an exact pair - and verify which crossover you have for your HERESY I - E or E2
- the round k77 uses an alnico magnet - the square k77 uses a ceramic magnet - the round K77 reaches I believe 14-15khz - the square up to 17khz -
-either one will give you great sound -but only a pair will result in a balanced sound - if you can post pictures of the tweeters with a DCR reading - we can give you even more details as to what you have in your hands -

I need to refinish the scala cabs - that's not cheap - but the internals are in mint condition - I have cornwalls and I love the sound - especially playing 70 's sound - building a pristine pair of cornwalls cabs is hey not a bad alternative - and I can always take my time to fix my scalas - a few screws and they can be retrofitted - I am not scrapping my scala cabs - in any case - tx

I am doing a follow up on this thread in regards to K28 woofers in Heresy and Heresy II - Klipsch's own Trey Cannon had mentionned that the K28 also worked well in a Heresy II -
- after 2 years , can you please give us an update on how the k28 is behaving - thank you

Gentlemen - I just bought a couple of k42 KP woofers -
I was wondering if these can work in a Heresy I or Heresy II cab while
using
the original crossovers - being 8 ohm woofers alike the k22 and k24 -
can one expect a better sound - more detailed tones - or is it back to
square one - the k42 kp can handle more power so can I expect to being
able to have the speakers go louder before the woofer reaches the
distortion levels -
