  1. I thought it was pretty easy because the cloth has just the right amount
of flex. I started on one side and applied approximately
8" of glue, folded the cloth over and put some pressure on it with a
board so it could not burn my finger tips. I did this over and over til I
was done with one side. Than I did the opposite side
and at the end the corners. They turned out perfect.

  2. "If you have a bass cabinet which
is not braced in any way these mods will likely be lost on you for the
most part as the box talk will drown out the spider talk and basket
    ringing."

    -Bracing.....check

-Dynamat...check (ordered it last night, mainly for the horns and maybe the ports???)

-Feld pad.... (where to get that and does it help on a KLF30?)

I also got a test CD this week for fine tuning the ports. I am concerned about losing internal volume if they get to long.

  3. I would be just as good with that as you. I will keep you posted. Best regards Moray James.

Did you get more results on the
length of the ports yet. I still did not glue my ports yet so I can
still change them. I also have to paint and assemble the second KLF 30
before I can start testing. I will need to order more pipe and a test CD
too. With my left over pipe I can get the length up to 8 inches, maybe
that would do? Any suggestions on a test CD (for beginners)?

  4. Thank you, it looks like we both also like classic european roadsters.

Several, all need more work than my speakers and they need a lot, I guess excessive compulsive comes to mind when I look around. Lotus Elan S2 - I can't quite make out what your avitar is?

Only a Fiat Spider, not as exotic as a Lotus Elan but still a lot of work (and a lot of fun).

  5. You would only want to damp the walls and the top most portion of the cabinet as damping the lower section or the full body with dacron or polyfill will prevent the woofer from generating a good strong resonant coupling with the vents which is how they work together. You have to have a good volume of air resonating in the lower half of the cabinet.

Let me get this right. I don't want foam in the lower part of the speaker?

  6. When I got my KLF 30's all four port tubes where
missing and the holes in the board are 4'' wide but I have seen photos
where the tubes where reduced in diameter.

If you KLF 30 owners out
there could help me out with the measurements (diameter and over all
depth ) of the original tubes, that would be terrific.

I am building new cabs so I could go with a standart replacemant or if some body would sell the original port tubes to me that would be good too.

  7. Hey everybody,

I am pretty new here and this is my first post.

I just started building new cabinets for the water damaged and also coming apart KLF 30's witch I bought a couple of month ago.

All four port tubes where missing and the holes in the board are 4'' wide but I have seen photos where the tubes where reduced in diameter.

If you KLF 30 owners out there could help me out with the measurements (diameter and over all depth ) of the original tubes, that would be terrific.

    The
cabinets are going to be not as deep and slightly wider and because of
added bracing inside about 8cm taller. That will give me enough space to put the portholes in the front so that I can move them closer to the wall witch will help me in my small living room. Any concerns or ideas about that, anything I should know?

Also the speakers are standing on hardwood
floors and sometimes when I crank it up a little they start to walk. I
did not adjust the feet yet and the floor is very uneven so I was just
wondering if anybody tried to only have one foot in the back, center
(try pot) or maybe has a better idea.

    I
am using 3/4" MDF and I am going to double up on the mother board.
There will be three square braces inside, a two by two in every corner
and a hole lot of 2" MDF screws. All edges will be rounded.

Should I reuse the old foam or is there anything else that would work better after all the changes inside, something affordable?

    I
have been reading a lot of post here and learned some but still don't
know much so thank you for reading all the way through and I am looking
forward to a lot of tips, suggestions, concerns and ideas.

  8. Farewell Quartets

Even though I'm enjoying the KLF30s right now, I don't know if I could ever bring myself to sell my minty Quartets. I imagine I would always regret selling. I think mine will be with me for a long long time.

Well, I wish I could afford that because I still think the Quartets are great speakers but I also have 3 vehicles and a mortgage. The Spider will need a motor redo soon and some bigger wheels would be nice too. emotion-34.gif

  9. I started 7 years ago with a pair of KG 2 and thought they where
great but after a while I thought I was missing to much with the 2 way
    speaker.

Two month ago I got a pair of Quartets and I realy liked them even though I thought the woofers where a bit harsch.

Last weekend I got a pair of KLF 30 and they can fill the room much better, and I don't mean taken up space.

Like t-man says they seem more dynamic

Last night I got to A/B test them for a few minutes. With cars I would
allways go and take the smal, high perfomance car over the the big one
but with speakers the KLF 30 are defenetly the winner.
