  1. Hi there,

I wonder what should the next step for my audio set up be ? Mainly, I listen to music and have a great CD collection. I own no vinyl for the moment. The media source I use for the moment is a SONY BDS-470 (blu-ray player).

Would I get a really better sound with a high-end CD player ? I've been looking for the Emotiva ERC-2...

Or should I invest in an amp, like a XPA-3 for the front speakers (including the center) ?

  2. Hi there,

I just installed banana plugs on my RF-82's cable. My cable is Monster, the banana plugs are Monoprice.

The way I fit it on my AVR 3600 is simple, since there is only one positive output and one negative output. I used those banana plugs to fit 2 cables (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10401&cs_id=1040115&p_id=2943&seq=1&format=2). At the other end of each cable, I used those plugs so they can fit on separate RF-82's input (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10401&cs_id=1040115&p_id=2801&seq=1&format=2).

For the moment, this installation is only on ONE of me RF-82' (the left one), the reason is that I wanted to make sound tests to see if there is a loose of sound using those banana plugs. The right speaker's cables (also 2) are directly on the output - input.

When I open my receiver, I can ear the "power" getting on the left speaker (like a sparkle sound, tough there is no real visible sparkle). Then both speaker are working correctly when I play music on them.

The fact is that I don't "like" this sound very much. I'm pretty newbee in home audio and I'd like to know if :

    1. If I set the other speaker the same way, will the "sparkle" sound will end;

    2. Is it completely anormal and dangerous ?

    Thanks

  3. Thank you for your answer. What I'll probably do is to buy a Emotiva 12 during august and try to look for a RC-64 at a reasonable price in Florida when I'll go there in a month. The fact is that my RF-82s are black and that a black RC-64 seams to be a little bit more expensive than the cherry one (1299$ on the Internet....). Depending on the place I'll have, I'll try to find two more RF-82's to put in surround (since RF-7 are pretty expensive here in Canada).

Is the 200 watts per channel on the XPA going to blow off my 150 watts RF-82 ?

  4. I have 2 Velodyne 12 inches ($250 each). sure you can go with klipsch sub ($350 each) but they are a bit more expensive already on sale in canada the us is cheap imo :(

All right. Two questions for you guys. First, I would be able to get a SW-112 for 400 $ or to buy a Emotiva 12 Sub on their website for 429 $. The frequency response seems better on the emotiva ( 22Hz-200Hz) for a lower Power Output: 300 watts RMS, 500 watts peak. The Klipsch's frequency response is 26Hz-120Hz ± 3dB, for a power outpout of 300 watts RMS, 600 peak. I'm a newbee so...wich one would be appropriate ?

I spend the extra money on emotiva xpa-5 :)

Would I be able ton set my HK 3600 as a preamp (there is 8 preamp output, including the sub) and use a Emotiva XPA-5 as an amp ? I wonder if my HK3600 is enought for my RF-82s and would be enough for RC-64, with 85 watts per channel (about 105 in realty).

  5. it is best to use two more rf82s (rb 81 price are almost the same as 82) if you have space otherwise rb-61s are ok. for centre RC-62

Thanks for your answer. Could you tell me if the RC-64 worth the price as a center channel speaker, instead of the 62 ? And, finally, would you go Klipsch as a sub-woofer ?

  6. I presently have two RF-82II that I use as front speakers, mainly in an audio combination.

Since I have a HT 7.1 receiver and that I want to use my system 60 % audio (listening to CDs and SA-CDs, 40 % HT, which speaker combination would be OK ?

    - Tow RB-61 II

    Two RB-81 II

    - Two RS-62 (is that true that those bipolar speakers are prohibited in the listening of SACDs ?)

    - Two other RF-82, if I have enough place (which is not the case for the moment, since the place needed would be around 9 feet from the listening position).

And would the RC-62 would be enough as center speaker ?

  7. Hi everyone here,

This is my fort post on this forum. I'd like to precise I'm french Canadian so there might be some mistakes in the way I express myself.... I apologize for that.

I just made the acquisition of two RF-82 and a HK receiver (3600), wich is 85 watts per canal. I use it for the moment only in stereo, but I plan to add some speakers to it in the future so it'll become 5.1 HT and 2 speakers in a Zone 2.

For the moment I use a Sony BDP-S470 Blue-Ray disc player as CD source and it's ok, but I'd like to have your opinion about a right CD player that would enhance the musical experience I have on my system. My budget is about 500 $ and I can also buy in the US.

I saw the Harman Kardon HD 990, but since I don't know that much in the audio world, I'd like to have the forum opinion.

    Thanks !
