Thanks for the reply. I love fixing electronics, but have not soldered even a resistor since 1999... So I deicided to just get a new pair.
Interesting enough! Got the new pair from Bestbuy, everything looked the same EXCEPT Klipsch removed the easily accessible fuse cylinder from the back of the AMP/Subwoofer, as well as the ON/OFF switch... Don't know if this was done just to cut down on cost or a newer and better delayed switch circuitry is integrated inside. hmm... well, let's hope this pair lasts a little longer.
One other interesting thing, I have to turn the volume knob up pretty high to get the same volume level I get from my previous pair. I guess Klipsch really reengineered the circuitry in the Promedia 2.1, the AMP/Subwoofer seems lighter too compared to my previous pair.
but with all those differences... as long as I turn up the volume knob, I still get the same good old sound quality from these Klipsch speakers...
