  1. That's an exceptional looking amp. That could offer room to grow. Far from entry level stuff. The owner said there's nothing to break but is this something to learn on? Is it fairly user friendly? These are just a couple of things before I speak with the seller. I see it has a 1 yr warranty but but I don't want to kill a 1k amp from lack of experiance or know how. Caveman plug and play I can handle
  2. To answer about my status SFC Active Duty U.S. Army 15yrs. I've wanted to upgrade for several years but its alway been a weight over quality issue. I finally made up my mind that it doesn't have to be a monster system to sound great and after reading a few blogs on used equipment I purchased my first real set of speakers RB 5 II. One didn't fair too well but replacement parts are on order. These are old stock that were in a guys basement since 2002 never played and as I have researched I have read that tubes, and pre 1980 SS is what I need and my Yamaha 2065 or Kenwood 1070 aren't gonna cut it Short shopping list Scott 299 auction like I said it's just under 300.00 right now. Elco HF 81 345.00 Scott LK 72 1,000.00 HK A50 289.00 HK A300 500.00 Fisher x101b sansui AU 9500 500 eico hf 81 or 2050
  3. Thanks Thebes, I'll shoot him an email with the link.
  4. Thanks for the thoughts on the amp...Ive had my eye on a few other options its just I haven't heard anything bad about the Scott Im keeping an open mind Eico 81 or 87 Jolida FX-10 or JD102 Fisher x 100 or 500 Ive traded in car audio for home audio since Ive been oversea so no auditions just have to bit the bullet and have what ever I decide on sent on over (south korea).
  5. Auction for an H H Scott 299 the thing is said to be in collector quality condition so much so you can still read Scott on the orginal tubes pictures look like those you see of vettes with the plastic still on the sets.... as I'm "tube dumb" and new I need help in not spending too much and getting into a bidding war. From what Ive read the Scott is a great place to start to really hear music for the first time at home Right now High bid is $230.00 not a lot of time left before it ends. Will power a pair of RB 5II If everything works out
  6. I know...It's troubling to think that some people are so cruel as to destroy that of others that choose to have just a few splurges in life that aren't their own. It pisses me off.
  7. I'm leaning toward the repair option The tweeter magnet that came off totaled the plastic woofer basket. Considering that level of damage I figured it wise to replace the crossover. Reason being Im not in the States by the time I order the three parts have them mailed to a Stateside address. Then pay shipping again to send that same box over to me just to find out that the $30 crossover took a lick from the magnet too and is busted. I'd blow a gasket. I'm all about used just like a old friend had to explain to me years ago no matter how new you think your car is its still full of used parts. however in this case these speakers are almost 10yrs old and fresh out of the box (I think a real diamond in the rough) so I think "new" parts this one time. Please correct me if I'm smokin crack
  8. That was my first thought its just strange that it only happen to one. That plus I'm grasping for alternative repair options that I don't think exist. they are 2002s its not like I can just get another pair
  9. Is it possible that the pressure in a cargo airplane can cause the magnet on a RB-5 II to fall off? I had a pair of RB 5's mailed over to Korea a couple of weeks ago. I really don't think so since it only happened to one of them but just have to ask. note The magnet on the tweeter was affixed to the woofer magnet I took it apart and put the tweeter magnet back in place (fluid/oil everywhere) however the plastic woofer basket was broken from the fall. I put power to it and its dead the woofer kinda limps along not sound from the tweeter. Internal repair parts @175.00 woofer, tweeter, crossover plus what ever labor to do the solder Fix it or not?
