I used the Audyssey long setup and it sounds horrible at those settings. Sounds sort of distant or hollow. Also turning system up to 100.0 is not all that loud with 250+ watt amp. I would have thought the same thing, but it is dramatic how much better it sounds. I'm only running 2.1 and I don't think it really knows what to do about it. I'll continue to look at tuning settings. There is a lot there.

I turned my speaker levels up to +12db from -10db and system sounds much better now.

I just hooked my 809 up last night. I have no center or surrounds yet. Sound is awful so far. Mains sound sort of hollow and distant. I will pour through manuals and set up options. Also I had hooked up my Carver TFM-35x to the preouts, it doesn't seem to send a strong signal to amp. I'll use the 809's amps on it next. Sound with Carver CT-6 and same amp is awesome with same speakers, etc. I did the quick start equalization. I'll also have to do the full version too.

My new AV Receiver will be here Friday. I'll be hooking everything up over the weekend. After that I'll start on this remote project. Thanks for the input. When I get a little closer I'll ping Rudy81 for advice. I poked around on the iRule site and it does not give a very good overview, it dives in deep quick. I'll have to review that a bit later. I'll check out the threads everyone else has suggested on these forums. Thanks everyone

Do the tablets have an IR sender or does it all work via the wifi network?

Can anyone point me to hardware/software to build my own remote control. I'd like to get inexpensive Android tablet and use it for remote control. I do software development so I can probably handle pretty detailed programming efforts on this project.

818 is also 9.2 if you need that. I still haven't got Center or Surrounds. I'll be running 2.1 for awhile yet. 5.1 is probably as far as I'll go based on my room

I just bought one. Couldn't resist that price. I don't have Center speaker our surrounds yet. Will let you know how sound compares against my old Carver pre-amp. I'll also experiment with sound of my Carver amp vs. powering with the 809.

No room for floor speakers. I have a wall the goes from 8ft ceiling height up to vaulted ceiling that I'll put the in walls into. -- Thad, I just noticed you are from Princeton. I built some lakes there in the late 90's great town.

Thanks, I did some more Google'ing and found what I need is NIles AC3. My external amp does not have any external triggers.

Is there any device that could switch on my power amp from a programmable remote. I'm planning on running an A/V receiver plus preouts to power amp for fronts.

The two inputs are for driving sub when you don't have an LFE output. I'm using old Carver preamp and I Y-off the pre-amp out to my stereo amp and to the inputs on the sub.

I reset my WIFI to 2.4 sub channel 11 and it seems to have cleaned it up.

I seem to be getting some interference with mine. Most of the time it is fine, but sometimes in a quiet passage, or when changing CD's, etc. I'll get this weird soft rumbling sound for a second or two.

I'll stick with this for awhile. I haven't watched any movies with it yet. Musically it really fills in nice.

Installed new board last night and much better. I don't have 7.1 processor yet, so I'm splitting the pre-outs to amp and to sub. I ended up with the gain at about 2/3 and it blended nice with my RF-7 mains.

I can understand that. It sounds like they are having a lot of trouble with the amps.
