  1. My old stereo setup was a Panasonic SA-BX500 digital amp and bi-wired B&W 601 speakers. I moved into a new place and I need a smaller setup for use when computing. I picked up a pair of Audioengine A2 powered speakers but the sound is muddy in comparison. The clarity and crystal clear sound floor of my old setup spoiled me. I'm thinking I want to go with an SA-XR25 or 50 amp optically connected from my PC, and some some smaller Klipsch RB series speakers, like an RB-10 or RB-15. This will be my only stereo in the apartment, but it doesn't need to be big and booming because the room is quite small. Size is also a concern. Does anyone have any speaker recomendations?
  2. Cuss Cuss Cuss Cuss Cuss Cuss Cuss Cuss. Also, Cuss. I was just beginning my search for a 2.0 music and HT speaker setup when I found a pair of RF-5s on craigslist for $300, but it was too early to pull the trigger. Now I feel sick because I feel like I've missed out on an opportunity of a lifetime... I really like klipsch, I've owned klipsch, and I have fond memories of klipsch speakers that weren't my own, but I'm getting somewhat antsy and desperate. Here is my inspiration: I want < that in my life.I am looking for clarity and noise free sound. Priority is violin and acoustic reproduction, and 50's, 60's and 70's music. I will say that bass is not that important to me, but the real issue is that I've never had high quality speakers and I just don't want a ton of bass with out vocal and instrumental clarity. What should I do?
  3. A digital receiver looks like it might be a great solution. It will make the DAC I have coming useless but I might find somewhere else to use it. The ST theme sounds great with that setup. Does anyone know if there is a digital receiver with a discrete phono input? How do analog sources sound? Also, I did some searching but I couldn't find a real explanation about how digital receivers work/differ from a normal receiver. Can anyone explain it? thanks
  4. A good 25% of the time the speakers are going it will be for music and I don't really have the cash to do a seperate system for stand alone music. That being said, my frame or referance is fairly limited with my current setup being the stock speakers on my 52" Sharp LCD and a couple of Logitech Z-10s computer speakers, so a SS amp might be good for a start. I have owned a Bose cube speaker set in the past as well as a Quintet III set with sub. They never really did it for me and I'd like to do it right this time with a 2.0 setup at least. I plan to dip my toe into LPs for the first time and I understand tube amps are a good match. Also, reading stuff like this http://community.klipsch.com/forums/p/9552/68811.aspx#68811 (colin's second post on that page <what no permalink?>) raving about tube amps makes me want in.
  5. I actually have the source and the DAC on the way already. The source is a Psyclone HDMI and Optical switch which will be fed optically by a PS3, a PC, and a couple of Directv receivers. The DAC is a bit older, a Theta Cobalt 307, but it's my first DAC and I got it at a good price so if it it doesn't cut the mustard I can always replace it. This is a home theater though so remote volume control is a must. Ideally I would like to find a used tube amp with a couple of inputs and a remote (do those even exist?) at a good price, or at least some way to control the volume without introducing audio noise/loss. Speakers will most likely be RB-5s or RB-35s or possibly RF-3s/5s if I can find some locally.
  6. I'm thinking about doing a DAC>Receiver>Tube Amp setup and using a receiver for the volume control and remote functionality (possibly the tape and phono inputs as well). This will be for 2.0 home theater and music. Will I experience any noise or quality loss? Would it be receiver dependent? The reason I'm thinking about doing this is it seems like it would be easier/cheaper to get an older somewhat high end receiver for $50 then it would be to get a preamp with the remote functionality and inputs that I'm looking for.
  7. Thanks for the reply. I've been seeing a lot on here that the major difference between the RB-6*s and the RB-8*s is the bass. Would you say that RB-61s are up there with the RB-81s in terms of sound quality, but just lacking the exra bass, or is there a distinct difference? Edit; I'm just looking into the RB-5's and thats looking like it might be the way to go. I take it the RB-5's are similar to the RF-5's vs RF-45's in that the V1s are an older vintage and higher quality than something like an RB-35?
  8. I am basically looking for a pair of speakers that would be great for a home theater 2.0 PCM setup (good dialog and rich, full sound even at low volume). This is a smaller room and bass is not really a priority, but a rich, full, crystal clear sound even at low volume is the goal. They also need to be excellent for rich music; violin, piano, acoustical guitar ect. I want live music to make me feel like I'm there. Did I say rich enough?[] I've had a Quintet III 5.1 setup paired with a KSW-10 sub and a Sony DA5200ES receiver. I used the auto calibration with the microphone, but the setup never really wowed me. This is what I'm looking for in a smaller environment: What would be the equivalent of the RF-5s and what would you recommend for my goals? thanks
