  1. JCturboT Well you found a couple jewels there and now I get to payback all the help MDeneen gave me with my Scott. Between MDeneen and I we can turn those into some sweet sounding peices. I have everything you will need in the Schematic department don't buy a thing. I'll either make you copies and mail them to you or scan them and email. Mailing them will turn out better ask MDeneen . Keep us up to date when you ready to start working on them units. Start with the Amp first as I havn't started on my turner yet except replacing all the week tubes which helped it Alot. It's funny you have the Kit version of my Amp and I have the kit version of your Tuner the LT-110B. The HH Scott website is a endless resource of restore Info but most of the people over there are collectors and don't care for us Improver restorer types. What is it you want to do with these units ?? Have you fired them up yet ?? If your going to try and start them up you really should either buy a Variac to lower the voltage and try to get the Caps to reform or run a Lamp in series with a 100watt than 75 watt and so on for at least a 1hr each and watch the tubes for the cherry sindrome . Especially if they have sat unused for years this is real Important Do you have a Vom ?? any experience with this type of electrical curcuits ?? Mdeneen schooled me to one fact that I now I take very seriously a Amp can work and sound real good and still have things wrong with it that can really damage things in long run so if it fires up and works fine still have it checked out real good or check it all yourself. MDeneen , Mobile and Myself will I'm sure be more than happy to help you though the ordeal. MY 222C is sounding awesome and that is a under statement to say the least. Oh and I can't believe the deal you got!! I paid 225.00 for my amp alone. Did you get cases with this deal. I hope not that might send me over the Edge Craig
  2. I want to know how the heck a thread can have 45 replies and only 40 views? There's something wrong with the web server's calculator LOL !!!!
  3. What the normal price for Heresy 1's If they are as described do you folks think there worth it ?? $500 that is !! Linkage Hurry I'll use buy it now if everyone thinks they will go over that amount on there own. This message has been edited by NOS440 on 03-08-2002 at 04:34 PM
  4. Oh I'm going to keep going the Base mod parts arrived today. The thing sounds so good I just had to leave it for a day or 2 and enjoy besides have to get use to it before changing it again. Makes it easier to descern the difference. Craig
  5. TBrennan Yea but surely there will be Klipsch owners going and from what I read on the website for this event. They have a block of rooms at a hotel for $65 a night that you are allowed to bring your System in and setup and play it away. I imaging it could be one hell of a party .
  6. I thought you said class "A" was not possible with my Iron ?? I have another question is there a way to determine at what volume the amp switches from class A to A/B ? There must be a very slight difference becasue I can't tell where it does this. The Amp has been playing since 7:30 ET this morning and just sounds stunning. The mod did make a very distinct detail difference. It just seems right on the money now. It always did sound extremely warm but now its warm and tight sounding. How much of this can be attributed to the Heater voltage to the 12AX7's being right now or the Bias being perfectly matched on the output tube's. who knows ? But I bet its a little of both. Yes MDeneen is right after much probing with my Vom. We did find things out of spec that sooner or later would burned up my high dollar Tele 12AX7's and the point here is its not wise to buy one of these Amps of any manufacturer and just run it as is. It may work and sound good but your chancing long term damage to various high dollar and maybe even parts that can never be replaced. This could result in rendering your new pride and joy useless. 7. Man this is awesome I'm going !! Who's bringing there Heritage series speakers for me to hook my Scott and by then HF-81 too ?? That would be just incredible. Rent a room and be able to setup your system in it and everyone gets to compare. Craig This message has been edited by NOS440 on 03-08-2002 at 04:01 PM
  8. ShapeShifter Yes I do but it sucks!!!! I use my Sony surround receiver when I listen to FM. I can only stand it if I'm not paying Attention to it. I have a Scott tube turner that needs some work to go with this when I get to it. I'll tell you for no fuss listening I have 1500 mostly 70 Rock Roll of various Artist on my PC with a Phillips Acistic Egde soundcard and put all my Favorite on a Win AMP playlist and randomize the list and let it play. Anyone that is not using this as a Casual source is missing out. I have them all recorded at 224/44 bit rates done with the Lame encoder and use the Madd plug in for Win AMP. It sounds in my Opinion somewhere between CD's and Vinyl. I have now did 2 hrs of serious listening after the latest mod and let me tell you all this Amp is sounding nothing short of Amazing. I'm only using Syenergy Sf-2 mains with a KSW-15 Sub (which can't be turned up yet because the base is to flabby soon to be fixed). I can't wait to finally find a set of Heritage-? Speakers somewhere near me at some kind of reasonable price. I just can't amagine this sound Improving much more. If anyone asks you what to get on a budget for a smallish room (mines 12X12) that will be awesome in surround movies and Music (For the Bucks)don't hessitate to recommend the Syenergy or entry level RF series they really do a great job for someone trying to do this on the cheap and do great with Tube AMPS !! I do want to thank all the people in this forum and especially MDeneen , Mobile , Allan Songer (who suggested I buy this exact amp)and everyone else for there help and incouragement. I found my new Hobby to try and master. I just never amagined music sounding so good !! This really all got started when I bought Pro Media 5.1s for my PC and found just how horrible my all Sony surround system sounded. I think I'd commit suicide before I'd go Back !!!! LOL Well that's where I stand stay tuned the Base mod will be done Tomorrow or Saturday and I'll keep everyone up to date on my progress !! 9. Oh and I really need to get rid of that funky power cord that the previous owner spliced in there !!!!!
  10. It comes with 7189 outputs. I'm currently running Telsa JJ EL84s in it right now. I can't really tell much in the way of different sound between the EL84 and the 7189s myself. There really nice Amps and this one actually worked perfect right from the get go. I had to clean the tube sockets was the only required work. All this stuff I'm doing is for the fun of it and to bring it into factory Spec or Better. I also have a Scott 299 that I bought that works fine too !! They look similar and use the same basic tube setup in the 299 and 299B. The 299C and D use 7591 outputs and really crank from what I here but the 7591s are hard to come by and expensive. I just love the Brushed brass look of the Scott amps myself they just look Classy. Well here your Pictures This message has been edited by NOS440 on 03-08-2002 at 07:46 AM
  11. Well just completed the latest Mdeneen engineered Mod to my Scott 222C. Its hard to believe how helpfull and Knowledgeable he is with these Oldie's but Goodie's. But anyway's the Scott was a "self bias as they call it" setup and all you had was Bias Balance adjustment so MDeneen sugested I add real bias adjustment to it. At first I wasn't sure I could understand everything it took to do it. But once I started it all fell together rather easy. While doing that I also replaced the Ageing Selenium Rectifier that produces the Neg. Bias current. They are known to fail and can raise Havoc. Cheap and easy $2 fix by themself. Well its pretty late here and I can't crank it up. My first impressions are that all the sudden the singer is now dead center between my speaker before unless I messed with the balance it always seemed that the singer was 6" to 12" to left. I thought it was speaker placement in my small and cramped listening room. But now its perfect. Well anyway's here's the Picture for you all. Let me know what you think !! I think I should of split where some of the connection go to all one lug on the new binding post myself and may change it yet. This message has been edited by NOS440 on 03-08-2002 at 01:27 AM
  12. Sounds me like they should hire some help !!! There getting pretty good money for those Amps aren't they ? They should at the very least hire someone to take care of customer relations and before a sale is made make it clear that there is a 2 or 3 month or whatever it maybe back log. I don't want to make this a Issue. But in my business when I contract a job I make it clear when I will start and when I will finish and during my busy season its nothing for me to be up till 12/1:00 doing paper work and contacting my customers to keep them up to date on there Project. Sounds to me like they maybe great people but aren't very smart as the customer relation end of the business. Craig
  13. I swear I must be voodoo to MH aand Mdeneen they always end up in a battle in my threads. Anyways I hope you both hang in there. I value advice from both of you. Mobile I picked up a fuse socket for the EICO today. Send me that photo we talked about. I don't know for sure what I'm going to do with the unit yet. But I will install the fuse and fix the obvious problems and give it a whirl before I trash it into a dust pan I promise you and feel I owe you at least that. So guys let's all get along. Try not to read each others posts or something !! Craig the flame starter !!!!!
  14. Mike Not sure what Tanna offered for the HF-12s. But I've received 3 service manuals for my stuff from them and 2 of the 3 were real nice well worth the money if you can't get this Info elsewhere for free. Stay away from Sams directly from Sams website they suck done real cheap. I bought one and was real disappointed. Craig
  15. Mdeneen I'm a little lost who is Manuel?? Got the Bridge in the 222C and it puts me at -61 at the Bridge before the Electrolytic or Resistors. I figure a 51 ohm should get me close. I'm going now to search for some here local from mid 40s to 60, so we can play with that voltage. I measured the 12AX7s and they were getting about -9 each as it was. Most of the other schematics from Scott that show this neg. value it is around -44 -47 after it leaves the capacitors and resistors. Of coarse the 222c schem. doesn't show us the value. Craig
  16. Mike I'd be watching that one. But remember never bid till the last second ever !!!!! If I didn't already have so many amps, I'd be watching that one like a hawk.
  17. Mike I'm pretty sure that's a mono amp. Mdeneen that is some nice wiring and layout work.
  18. I've been so busy messing with my 222C I missed all this fun.....Darn. Really guys I bought this unit with the thought that I would just use it as a learning tool. You can't buy kits like these anymore and I'll end up with much better parts than most if not any HF81 has out there but this will take time. I'm not even going to start it for some time. First I'm going to finish my Scott 222C. It is going to get all kinds of mods before MDeneen and I are done. I want to make sure that it has a chance against a full mod HF-81. The 81 will never have the looks of the Scott that's for sure it just doesn't have the cool quality Scott look even with the greatest paint job. The knobs and face plate on my Scott just look 60s quality at its best. I haven't even done a serious mod to the Scott yet and it sounds real good to my ears. So I think the 81 has a big hill to climb before it can take the main spot in my music listening. Craig
  19. mike stehr I don't think his comment was directed at you !! But I'm guessing
  20. Mike Honestly I do this with hobbies all the time I drive my wife nuts she can't figure out what I'll get into next. I usually get involved with something like a madman until I've mastered the art and then I just stay in the hobby casually. I just have a lust to learn !!!!! Craig
  21. I didn't think you noticed that. You have mail by the way.
  22. Mobile There is no way I'm firing this thing up it doesn't even have the fuse socket wired in no protection what so ever. If something shorted bam! I could lose the tranny who knows what. I'm going to fix the wiring before I chance that. I believe someone modded the wiring bigtime anyways. Most of the soldering looks as good as the factory did on my Scotties but other parts look like a child did it. I'm waiting I just can't chance it burning something up or worse knocking me on my A$$ with a jolt. Craig
  23. Mobile Rest assured I don't feel bad about the deal at all. I expected it to be a mess at the price I paid. Oh and yes I received the 4 tube shields. The unit is complete. The guy says it works but I'm not going to fire it up with that wiring the way it is and right now I have too many projects to finish. With my Scott 222C mods and 299 restore and my LT-110b Tuner to restore. I'm swamped with my new hobby. I don't want to dive into the HF-81 when I'm in the middle of the others. I will give it my all when the others are done. What I'm wondering is how it ended up with 5 EICO/Mullard 12AX7 tubes. I test my tubes on my like brand new put in a time capsule EICO 667 tester. For leaks, shorts and balance. Here's how they scored.
  24. I came home from work early today to find my HF-81 was waiting at my Door . Well I wanted a project and it looks like I have one. The wiring inside is a mess !! In fact I'm scared to even turn it on LOL !! Tested all the tubes. All the 6BQ5's but one are shot. No big deal. They weren't Original they were Tong Sols. The 12AX7's all test great and for some crazy reason there are 5 !! all EICO Mullards. The 12AU7 there was only one was a Tung Sol and it tested good. The EZ81's Tested great and they are EICO Mullards. So my luck didn't hold out !! I have a basket case on my hands. But I'm not complaining at all. The tubes alone are worth more than I paid. Besides I wanted something to work on anyways . This project I think is going to be a complete rebuild/restore the wiring, the case, it all needs attention. So this is going to be put off for a while till I go thru all my other stuff and get it all up to snuff and learn a little more about what I'm doing. Well there's the story. I'm not regretting this purchase at all. Just thought I'd show you all my project before I start fixing it. Of coarse Mobile and MDeneen will be called on many times to help me when I get started on it.
  25. Mdeneen Yes there are places to mount it on top. I was just trying to avoid that. I'm going to solder the mod in temp. and see how it sounds and then mount it permanent up top of it to my liking. Craig
