Hi everyone,
I have a pair of KLF-10's that have great bass response and imaging. The treble is pretty good, but the midrange tends to be a little harsh on some female vocalists when the music is turned up to a loud, but not ridiculous level. The room is about 16' x 28'. I have tried experimenting with room placement, diffusers, and equalization with no luck. I am driving the speakers with Carver separates so amplification shouldn't be a problem. Comparison with a pair of old JBL 940T's shows that amplification is not the problem. I have thought about upgrading, but was not impressed when I listened to the new RF-7's. They seemed very similar to my 10's although they were not quite as harsh. I have listened to the KLF-20's and 30's. They are much smoother than the 10's I suppose due to being a 3 way design instead of a two way. Both designs (at least to my ears) seem to lack tight bass compared to the 10's although I would be willing to accept that tradeoff for the smoothness of the 30's. Unfortunately, I really don't want to spend $ 900 on a new pair of 30's (although its a great price) as I have to be able to pay for my house and eat. I am pretty handy with a soldering iron and have built some speakers. Does anyone have any ideas about crossover or driver modifications that may help? Thanks in advance.
