Currently I am using my very tired Klipsch KSW-12 which is very boomy and muddy sounding.

I am looking to replace it with something of higher quality and something that will go nice with my current setup. So far the only 2 subs I have really been leaning to purchase has been the SVS PB10-NSD and the HSU VTF2 MK3 they fit the price range and from what I read will blow the doors off my current sub ( probaly isnt very hard ).

Please share experiences with this sub if you have any or let me know of some more alternatives in this price range..

I spend about 50/50 on HT and Music as well as video games but there just like HT.

    Thanks Guys!

  2. Thank you thank you! So even being 6.5s vs 8" you think the SF-1's will sound better as my mains? If so AWESOME! Only other question I would have to think about is if I move my front SB3s w/stands to the rear would they have to be raised higher than they are now? Would they be too low as in they will be partially firing into the back of the couch. And thanks for the kind words. I just moved into my new place and finally have a room big enough to actually setup my HT!

  3. Hello All,

Currently im running a rather small set of Klipsch Quintet rear speakers on stands. They stand about 46" tall and clear the top of the couch.

I have a friend who moved and needs smaller speakers. He is willing to trade me his Klipsch SF1 towers ( stand 33' tall have 6.5 drivers ) Even trade.

I have a matching pair of Klipsch synergy as my mains with 8" woofers only there bookshelves on stands vs floor standers.

Now will these make a huge difference than my current rears? Will they have to be lifted since there much shorter to hear the sound? Is it even worth the trade with my setup?

Heres the rest of the system they would be joining.

Any input would be greatly apreciated as he awaits an answer from me.

    Thanks,

  4. I have a 7200 in my BR. I set mine to independent for bass mgr. Dr Who once told me to set the xover appx 20 over the low end of your spkr because there is a rolloff not a brickwall. However, his explanation was much more succinct than mine. I suggest you pick up a spl meter for calibration because I don't trust auto findings.

    nice condo.

Thanks, My remote has an SPL Meter with digital readout I can activate but im wondering if its not as accurate as a Radio Shack one.

  5. Thanks for all the nice comments guys!

    srobak,

Nice setup, what are those front top speakers used for? for now I set everything to small in the receiver and left them at 100HZ Im going to have to play around with the sub.

    Nice layout QUiKSR20.

I'm not sure, but I would think that "LFE: left+right" would send the Low Frequency Effects (LFE) to the front speakers, a setting used by those without a sub. Since you have one (presumably connected via RCA connections to the sub-output of your receiver), you should find a setting that lokks something like "LFE: sub". Does that exist?

Otherwise I'd have to download and read your manual.

    PSG ,

Where it says LFE : Left/Right I get the following options ( options are only avail. when in x-over mode )

Left / Right , Center, Surround, Surr Back ( each click changes it to each diff one )

When its going by Small/Large its just set to SUB : SUB ( no options to change )

Heres a copy of my manual if you have a second to take a quick look.

    Thanks again guys,
    Daryl

  6. Hey guys,

Havent posted in a while, I recently moved to a new condo with an ideal layout for my home theater. Eventually I plan
to upgrade but for now I want to tune this baby the best I can. I have just recently set all my speakers to exact locations
Dolby recomends and now I want to fine tune my calibration.

I plan on runninng through an auto calibration with the receiver this week and then tune the levels after it tunes my delays/distances.

If anyone has any knowledge with Harman Kardon Receivers preferably one simular to my AVR430 that would be great.

Heres the screen Im greeted with. I want to set my speakers to the proper levels and also my sub. I am going to set my sub to its
highest setting ( I dont have a disable for the internal x-over ) and let my receiver do the Bass Management. Im just a little confused.

    osd.jpg

With this screen theres no way to set my sub unless it just automatically picks the slack up under the lowest hz on all speakers? If anyone
can explain that would be great. I was looking for like a Sub = xx Hz Section but I dont see it. I also dont understand what LFE : Left/Right means?
I know LFE has to do with sounds sent to the sub but the Left/Right can be changed to center, or surrounds etc. I feel i need to understand it before
I just go making random settings.

The speakers I have are :

    Mains - Klipsch SB3
    Center - Klipsch SC1
Rears - Klipsch Quintetts ( replacing eventually )
    Sub - Klipsch KSW12 ( svs soon )

    Receiver - Harman Kardon - AVR430

Below is a picture of the room and layout =) If anyone has any advice or help I would greatly apreciate it.

If your wondering about OLD and NEW those are my sub locations. It use to be in the corner. ( caused too many complaints form neighbors )

  8. Buck_Eye,

I am pretty handy and will take a look at removing the amp and repairing the RCA connections, the amp does work it just seems like a connection issue. Now on the other
hand can anyone make any recomendations for a new Sub. I listen to music / home theater. So i know its hard to find one that does both decent.

Can anyone make a recomendation around $500 or less? Im not biased to new. Used is good too. I am just looking for a nicer sounding sub that will still put out nice power. The KSW had decent power.

How would these subs do? ( better or worse than the ksw )

I open to all suggestions these are just a few i checked out

    Thanks Guys,!

  9. Roly,

Why yes it does. I currently own a VW but raced and owned many SR20 powered SE-Rs Miss them big time and looking to get another shortly. Great Engine. As for the sub. I am not sure why this issue has happened i havnet moved the sub in ages.

Great price on the KSW but im not sure im looking for another KSW if I cant get this fixed. If I decide to keep the KSW I will let you know Great Price. The sub isnt the best but for what I need it to do its not that bad either!

  10. Hello All,

Long time member, I use to post here quite often but havent had much time lately.

I noticed my system lost alot of the bass I was use too, So i started to play with the sub &
noticed its barely having any output. It appears theres something wrong with the connection
of where the RCA Inputs are for the wire from the reciever. If I apply pressure on the connection
it appears to work. So i know the amp is good and the speakers def good but is there any fixing
those RCA Connections? Its not the cables I have also tried other cables.

Is this a common occurence with KSW-12s. I know its not the greatest sub but its been good to me.
If this is not fixable or not worth fixing. Is there a new amp alternative that would work like a parts express amp?

Or should I  save my time and money and put it to a new sub? Im sure a new sub would sound alot better.
If I bought a new sub what would be a good recomendation? the room is 15x19 I currently own an HK AVR-430
    running synergy 8 inch bookshelfs.

If anyone has any recomendations on fixing my current subs or a recomendation for a new sub that would be great
preferably a better sub if im going to move on. In the past I use to read on here about sunfire, SVS & velodyne.

    Thanks in advance,
    Daryl Gregg

  11. Congrats on the purchase your new HK Receiver will show you really how bad your sony was.. I use to own a sony 3 years ago then upgraded to a HK AVR510 and now an HK AVR430 so much nicer..

For the money though you can get refurbed HK 430's for $499 from HK direct. I just bought mine this week. It was either that or a Marantz SR5500 refurbed from www.accessories4less.com for $499

Either or you will be plenty satisfied with your purchase!

  12. Hello all,

I move into my new Apartment this week 2nd floor. Cant wait. But on a sidenote im a little nervous with the subwoofer part of my home theater. I will do my best to meet the neighbors and let them know that I have a home theater and I will not play it super loud and if theres a problem they can always call me and I will lower it.

Im looking for some tips tricks and suggestions to make me happy and keep them happy as well. I have a down firing KSW12.

So far I havent had much luck searching for tips and tricks with home theater in apt's on the internet.

Would something like this help under the subwoofer?

  13. We just purchased a 42" Sony Grand Wega LOVE IT.. But lets keep it on topic.

The main choice for us in LCD or Plasma was for one the price.. Plasma was way more money and for too. I hear plasma TVS only last like 4-5 years and then there done and you have to throw them out where as the LCD the bulb can go bad and you just replace it for around $75 and your back in biz.
