What is a good movie to watch? What should I be listening for if i do get a chance to try them out at home?
  2. No comment on speaker placement since, well, i don't really know, but on the tv.. >Oh and that 9 year old Sony 27" TV has gotta go too. >I'm wondering what kind of 36" TV I can purchase for >around $1300. I found a new Sony Wega KV-36FS13 36"FD >for $1078. Good TV? I have a KV-36FV27 (same family line, just a few steps up). Very nice TV, I have a Panasonic TAU (sp?) and a JVC iART to compare it too, and i like the Wega/Vega (depending on ur interpretation of Sony's logo)... but no HDTV support. If what i've read is correct, progressive scan requires a 480p compatible television (which the model you are looking at, isn't) . The TV has vibrant color, I've ran a good range of dvd movies on in on an above average dvd player, crisp clear, I enjoy it a lot. I also prefer sony's tv menu systems to JVC/Panasonic as well. But if i'm right about progressive & hdtv, you might want to spend a bit more and future proof a bit. This message has been edited by Vaystrem on 10-19-2001 at 11:44 PM
  3. I've been asking a lot of questions and getting a lot of answers, so here's another one. I've been looking to try and (as closely as possible) match the timbre between my existing speakers (Nuance tower's with a hard tweeter) to another centre channel. The options I have locally are: - The RC3 which i can get locally for $425CDN - KSC-C1 for about $325 - and a Cerwin Vega LS-6C for $299 No one has been able to tell me if the timbre between a horn based centre (klipsch) and my hard tweeter towers, will be to painful to live with until i can afford to upgrade my towers, or if they will match ok. I was looking to the RC3 because I do want to upgrade my towers sooner rather than later (hopefully march when my student loan comes in, ahem) So... traditional tweeter based centre with my towers or klipsch horns with my towers.. thoughts? thanks
  4. >BTW, why do you want to change the output impedance >of your amplifier? My tower speakers are of a brand called Nuance. Small Canadian company that sound ok, nothing special. They don't publish their speaker specs. I finally got in touch with someone from their support department and got the specs of my speakers. The response "Nuance Star 3M 90 db sensitivity 100 watt power for music 30 hz to 20,000 hz freq. response ***impedance - 5-6 ohms" So, my current amp (Pioneer VSX-D509S) has an 8 ohm impedance, am I incorrect in assuming that if I had an amplifier with a lower (5 or 6) ohm impedance my speakers would sound better? The dilema is: All my other speakers (Centre/Rears) are 8 ohm. Is there a way to power the fronts with a seperate amp (since this pioneer doesn't seem to be adjustable) and have my pioneer do the DTS/DD work (and power the centre/rears), or should i just considering replacing the current amp. Are there amps that allow you to specify the impedance to seperate channels? So my fronts could get 6 and my rears/centre could get 8? Thanks Oh and that link is golden, very helpful, thanks
  5. I have a lot of questions about things like pre-amps, ohm impedance on amplifiers (and can i adjust mine) and a host of other questions that haven't came up yet. What are a few good websites for general information? Thanks
  6. Has anyone tried an RC-3 or similar Klipsch centre channel with an (unfortunately) lower quality set of towers with a hard tweeter? I'm just curious how the timbre match will be or if it will atleast be tolerable. And anyone tried the RC-3 or similar centre channel with a lower end (again i'm just starting out here) Pioneer reciever? Thanks
  7. I just started my Home Theatre odessey in February and am finally going to pickup a centre channel (Klipsch RC-3) to fill out the system, and give me a centre speaker that will grow with me as i upgrade my towers and reciever down the road. My current tower speakers have (what appears) to be a 6.5" hard tweeter - and an 8" woofer. If your familar with the brand they are Nuance Star 3Ms. A lot of people really hate this brand (the flame wars on some message boards i've seen), but it was all that I could get at the time, and I certainly don't regret it as it brought me into the world of home theatre for the first time. I have heard from a few people that its important that the type of tweeter on the centre channel should closely match the tweeter on the front channels to maintain a more consistent sound when audio is panning from speaker to speaker. **** First question: **** So. How will the RC-3 (with their "TWEETER: K-105-KV 1" (2.54cm) Titanium dome compression driver" and "HIGH FREQUENCY HORN: 6" square 90° x 60° Tractrix® Horn") match up with my tower speakers' hard tweeter? Replacing the front speakers is not yet an option. **** 2nd question: **** I have a Pioneer VSX-D509S reciever (just a starter reciever) and was wondering if anyone has used a low end reciever like this with the RC-3 centre channel? Is it able to provide enough power to this speaker to atleast enjoy it until i can upgrade to more powerful reciever (or get a pre-amp) etc. **** 3rd question **** If you feel that the centre channel I'm after - Won't work that well with the reciever I have and / or - Won't mesh with the type of tower speakers I have What should I look for? Thank you
