I already have the gold-plated plugs - can I simply cut off the black aluminum 1/8" plugs, strip the ends, and screw them into the gold-plated plugs? I figure I can always upgrade the wire later... Thanks for your help.

So if I get four gold-plated solderless plugs from Radio Shack, all I need to do is to cut off the current aluminum 1/8" miniplug, strip the wire a little, and screw the leads into the new plugs? Thanks.

I've been please in general with my Promedia 4.1's but am starting to have problems with the sound fading in and out with certain channels. I've eliminated the sound card and speakers as the source of the problem - it's definitely the wires. I've read about how people are using custom wires with soldering to make better connections - however, I am not proficient in this kind of thing. Is there any place where I can purchase a wire upgrade for 4.1's with gold-plated miniplugs and quality wire all set to go without any extra work? Thanks.
