I think my system sounds pretty good, but I am knew to this world. I thought about trading this one off for a THX Kenwood or a Hk. I don't know much about Onkyo or Denon since I haven't found them sold in my area. I like the DSP the Yamaha has. I do get a hum when I turn the volume up, even when it is a digital source. I would appreciate any comments to help me in my search for a quality reciever. I thought it could have been my interconnects but I am using all monster cable interconnect they all were $80 a piece not including the optical cords. Thanks Speakerboy I have a RX-V1200 w/ a RF-3 package, and haven't noticed any problems -- the sound's pretty clear at both low and high volumes... Atul

Well, in the unlikely event that you do have a problem, don't forget to unplug the speaker from the mains :-). Also, take your time, be deliberate, be very deliberate... Atul

Are they safe? Do I get warranty coverage? Am I getting 'B' goods? Thanks. I too bit the bullet and purchased my RX-V1200 + Klipsch RF-3 reference package online (from hificiti on Yahoo shopping). From my estimates, I must have saved at least $500 vis-a-vis a local authorized B&M store (could have saved ~$750 if I had gone in for the RX-V1000). Now, it does concern me somewhat that I bought from an unauthorized dealer, but hey, my wallet (and my wife) are pretty happy. I did have a small scare w/ my subwoofer (see posting), but the way they handled it was probably better any authorized dealer would have. Also, several online sites do realize the dilemma and offer they own warranty protection in lieu of the manufacturers'. One may argue that they might default on their obligation, but since bad buzz has a way of getting around the Internet, I would doubt it :-). Regarding the "B" goods question, most sites categorically state that most items are NOT ("B" goods), unless explicitly mentioned otherwise. Atul

I too was debating between Yahama and the equivalent Denon, and the factor that tipped the scale in favour of the former was the remote. It's quite possible the the high end Denon models have better remotes... Atul

I have an RX-V1000, and I believe that for the sub the choices are Subwoofer Off (LFE sent to mains), Both (LFE sent to both mains and sub), and On (all LFE sent to sub). Also, I'm under the impression that the RX-V1000 doesn't send signals via the LFE output when in 2-channel stereo mode--so you might want to make sure that you have a sound processing mode on. Don't know if this is the same for the new model. Hope this helps. I'm a sub newbie myself. Thanks to everyone who responded -- it was a problem w/ a loose speaker lead and has been rectified -- see my other thread for details... Atul
  7. Thanks to all the folks who responded to my posting about the problems w/ KSW-15 subwoofer. The good news is that the problem has been resolved, thanks in no small measure to the help from the folks behind Yahoo's hificiti (the site from which I bought the speakers). Basically, after verifying that I all the connections were OK, they gave me the directions (and courage) to open the back panel and look for obvious problems. It was their hunch that a speaker lead wire might be loose, and it indeed was -- bottomline is that the problem was resolved and it's working great now!!! Atul

Turn the sub switch at the back to "always on" just in case. Now you should have a gren led light on the front of your sub. Check that as well. If there is not green led than most definitely you have a defective sub. The other thing i would check for is that the subwoofer is set to "yes" on your receiver. If that is the case, then again, most probably you have a defective sub. The green LED is on all right, and the inputs seem to be OK -- the subwoofer output from the receiver is split and fed into the L/R RCA jacks. I tried connecting the subwoofer output to the LFE in also, but that didn't help either. Also, the output volume on the sub is cranked up... Atul

Don't forget when you have the sub on auto on, there is a 2 second or so delay after the first bass signal under the crossover freuency is sent to the sub. -UP Thanks -- I tried this out, but still didn't get any output. My receiver has a low frequency test that allows me to output test tones, and it appears that the subwoofer simply isn't working (all other speakers output the tone). I connected the subwoofer ouput from my receiver to both the R and L inputs using a Y splitter. It seems that the subwoofer is defective, unless I am missing something else... Atul
  10. Hi folks, This might seem like a silly question to many of you, but how can I tell if my subwoofer is wired correctly and working? I have a RX-V1200 receiver (succesor to RX-V1000), and have connected the subwoofer output to the LFE-IN on the KSW. All other speakers (RF-3, RC-3 and RS-3) seem to be working fine. Is there a easy way to check out the subwoofer? Thanks, Atul
