  1. Thanks for all the advice guys, I appreciate it. I did go with the Klipsch sub, the RT-12d. I got it for $325, which from responses on the forum, sounds like a pretty good deal. I'm pretty much have no idea what to look for when it comes to separates. I'll look into those items mentioned.
  2. The puzzle pieces are coming together... I now have a sweet Klipsch RF-83 system with an RC-64 center and a RT-12d subwoofer. If I had some RS-52s, I'd have the original set that came with the entire RF-83 system. Now I need a receiver. I want to keep the receiver under $1k, but if there was an awesome one slightly over $1k that would provide me a much better product, I'd be willing to splurge a little bit. I've been looking at Marantz, Integra, and Denon, but not sure what exactly I want yet. Any suggestions?
  3. I got the RT-12d and it is more than enough for my room. I can't imagine what it would sound like if I had gotten a more powerful subwoofer, but I'm sure the pictures would be falling off the walls. And I saved $200-600 that I can now use on a receiver.
  4. Is there a place to buy a replacement mic? You do need the mic for the auto-tune functions, right?
  5. I got the 83s and the 64 from USNRET today. That was a pretty easy drive to get what I've been wanting. I set them up and they sound amazing!! I'm using my old Bose acoustimass subwoofer for bass right now, and even with that little POS, the system sounds frickin sweet! I need a real subwoofer now. Thanks. I'll post pics when I get everything set up. I still need some surrounds. The RS-7s were a bit too big for my walls. Anyone got some old RS-62s or RS-52s they want to sell me? Eagle
  6. 1st: Did the Klipsch RT-12d originally come with a microphone to do the auto tuning, or was the mic sold separately? 2nd: Do you need the mic for the auto-tuning, or is the mic for another function? Can you just buy another mic from radio shack to suffice? 3rd: I know the RT-12d isn't the biggest monster subwoofer out there, but would you be willing to buy one for $325 or is that still too much for its performance?
  7. Thanks for the idea on the RS-7s, but white speakers won't really match what I'm trying to build in my media room.
  8. I'm going to need some rear and side speakers with my RF-83 and RC-64. What are some suggestions? Would it be OK to buy some brand new RS-62 IIs or do I need the older ones? How about RS-52s or 42s? My room is 14'x15'x9'. So any suggestions on what to buy for sides and rear speakers? Thanks, Eagle
  9. Thanks. Looking forward to meeting up next week.
  10. PM Sent to USNRET. Looking forward to a response.
  11. $700, it appears there are some minor imperfections on the speaker on the left, but no holes. What do you think, would this be a good deal?
  12. I found some RF-7s. I'd have to drive about 5 hours to get them. What would be a fair price for some maple RF-7s that are a few years old?
  13. Would RF-7s be compatible with the RC-64 or just the 83s or 63s?
  14. Yeah, most of the hits are best buy and the other one's that are supposedly Klipsch dealers don't have any to demo.
  15. Do you know of a good audio video store in the Houston area I should check out to demo some subs or towers?
  16. So are you saying the RT-12d would suffice? If the other speakers are much better for a few hundred dollars more, I'd rather get a much better sub. If it's basically a wash, I'd rather save the money.
  17. I'm looking for a subwoofer that will really put a smile on my face for less than $1000. I'm not opposed to buying used, but it seems as though finding quality used subwoofers is not the easiest think to do. I have a dedicated home theater room(media room) that I can close the door and turn off the lights. The dimensions of the room are 14x15x9'. I'm looking in the Houston area and haven't been able to find a great local store to demo/audition speakers or subwoofers, but I gotta think there is one here in such a big city. Anyone that's lived here have a suggestion? I can't find any place to demo any RF-62 IIs or RF-82 IIs in Houston either. Back to the subwoofer, I've have someone willing to sell me an old RT-12d for ~$500, but I've heard that I'd be better off with something like: 1) Epik Empire 2) SVS PB-12 NSD or a used PB-12 plus or ultra (if I'm lucky enough to find one) 3) HSU VTF-15H Unfortunately, there's no place to audition any of these either, so I've just got to take advice from forums or reviews (which is fine, but frustrating) Can anyone help with subwoofer selection under $1K?
  18. Like the title says, I got an older RC-64, used about 5 years old off of CL. Thought it was a decent deal at $440. Got some advice from another thread to pair it with the RC-63 or RC-83, but I can't find either set anywhere. I'm tempted to just go out and buy some RF-62 IIs or RF-82 IIs, but there is no where in town to even demo these (Houston area, 4th largest metro in US but can't find a store to demo anything, but maybe I'm not looking in the right place) I've haven't been looking too long, maybe a couple weeks, but I'm eager to get something. What advice do you guys have? Should I: 1) Be patient, hold out for some 63s or 83s? 2) Settle for some RF-62 IIs or RF-82 IIs even thought they are not technically "matched"? 3) Buy a new RF-62 or RF-82 system and sell the RF-64 I got on CL? I have a 14x15x9' room. The RC-64 is the only piece I have for my new system so far. When I bought it, I thought it wouldn't be too different from a RC-64 II, so I thought it would be easy to just buy some new 62s or 82s to complement it. I'm in the Houston area and not too familiar as I just moved here. Anyone know a good place to go demo some Klipsch speakers or any other higher end audio? Thanks again.
  19. A Awesome advice guys. If you guys think an Epik Empire would beat out a RT-12d and only cost me another 299 clams, I'm thinking that would be the way to go. Would I have to go to a dealer to buy one? Any good discount websites for that sub? I am a bit skeptical on older audio equipment since you never know how good a device is taken care of and fixing a preiviously $2000 sub might end up costing the same price as the used sub to begin with. That said, the reviews on the RT-12d were good, but not stella and I'm definitely not opposed to getting used since I can probably get better stuff used than brand new lower end items. I have to say that I'm a bit of a newb when it comps to amps and pre-amps etc. I'd like to educate myself on the benefits of doing that versus a receiver. Any advice? Thanks again everyone. Everyone is so helpful here.
  20. I'm not sure about it being deep enough. I just have one row of seating. How do I determine if my room isn't deep enough to get side center speakers?
  21. I live in the Houston area. I'm guessing that shipping costs with the size and weight of these speakers would probably break my budget unless someone has a sweet deal with a shipper. How much should I expect to pay for a used pair of 63s? On another note. Why doesn't my formatting show up sometimes? Is there a forum setting I need to change? My original post wasn't one long continuous paragraph, but it showed up as one after posting. (so does this post, but my previous post has breaks in paragraphs)
  22. Thanks for the advice on the RF-63s or RF-83s. In the size room I noted, 14'x16', do you think the 63s or 83s are more appropriate. And for the RT-12d, would I feel the boom like I'm in a movie theater with it or will I be looking to upgrade after a year? Is there a sub that anyone would recommend for this size room under $1000?
  23. First time posting. I'm new to the forum but have a question about a system I'm building (7.1 surround home theater) I'm trying to build a Klipsch reference series system. In order to cut down on cost a bit and have as good a system as I can get, I'm combing craisglist for some deals. I bought a RC-64i for around $440 used and it sounds pretty awesome. I'm debating on what type of subwoofer to buy. I'm primarily using the system for home theater and have a dedicated room about 14' wide, 16'long, 9' ceiling. I found a price for a old Black RT-12d for around $500. I want a real nice subwoofer, and I don't want to spend any more than $1000, so I'm trying to decide if I can get a better subwoofer for my budget. The reviews weren't stellar for the RT-12d, but it's also originally a $2000 subwoofer based on what I've seen online. I won't be able to afford $2000, so I'm trying to decide if the RT-12d is a good deal, or if I can find something better for the same price or around $1000. Is $500 a good deal? Like I said, I want movies and video games to sound awesome and I'll eventually end up putting a projector screen in the room (maybe the new Epson 6020, unless someone has some better suggestions) Also, for this setup, I was thinking about buying either some new RT-82s IIs or something used (under $1000). Based on what I've heard, I think this would be good combo. I'm also not sure about the side speakers and rear speakers, whether I should go budget or new. Probably want to keep these 4 speakers under $1000 Also, any suggestions on a receiver to power the system would be greatly appreciated. (Probably under $1000 too) So to summarize: - Need advice on either a $500 Klipsch RT-12d or a new sub under $1000 that would be better. - Need advice on some front speakers to go with the RC-64 I bought - Any advice on the sides and rear speakers for the size room I have - Need advice on a good receiver for the speakers and room you suggest
