  1. Thanks Bill, I hope the KSW-10 will be enough.. Cheers, Don
  2. Thanks Derrick, Only the one receiver here... Town is a 1/2 hour away for a definitive test but I feel I've tried every possible connection. I've contacted the seller about returning it and ordered a Klipsch KSW-10... Appreciate your help. Cheers, Don
  3. Double checked.. Speaker A and CD selected, volume up [] Subwoofer cable from "subwoofer out" on receiver to "left line in" on sub. Phase @ 90, lowpass @ 80, power on, side volume control in the middle. Green light, power set on auto. Music starts > power light is green, no music for ~ 5 minutes > power light is red. Gently touching the cone I can feel there is absolutely no movement and no sound. One troubleshooting guide I found suggested if you have power on and remove the subwoofer cable from the back of the receiver (subwoofer out) and tap on the end of the connector on the cable you should hear something coming from the sub. Not.. Cheers, Don
  4. Thanks very much for the suggestion Rick, The Yamaha is indeed a two channel stereo receiver and your image is of the back of the sub. This morning I changed the cable in from the LFE input to the left channel of the line in on the sub. Still nothing... Just out of curiousity I tried running only the B speakers in the other room. I believe the subwoofer out line should still be running the subwoofer in the main room ? Anywho, not a peep out of the sub in this setting... To make things even fuzzier, at the beginning of this exercise I had the A channel feeding a splitter to run two sets of speakers in the main room and the B channel running another set in the shop. The second set of speakers in the main room have been moved but I used their speaker wires off the splitter to do a quick test of the subwoofer. With both the A speakers and the subwoofer on through the splitter my volume was cut in half. I actually didn't even bother to see/hear if the subwoofer was working, I just headed off to the store for a subwoofer cable. Which BTW, cost me half of what I paid for the subwoofer in the first place [] 5 m wasn't long enough and the next size was 15 m long... Cheers, Don
  5. Thanks Derrick, The amp/receiver, although new, doesn't have any settings for the speakers. Just A and/or B and subwoofer out. Cheers, Don
  6. [] This will teach me for trying to save a buck, sigh... Yamaha 50w/side receiver/amp, subwoofer cable hooked into the receiver's "subwoofer out" and LTE on the RW8 (bought used) panel. Power light is on but no sound. None of the controls have any effect. Wouldn't be the first time I've done something stupid but how can I screw up one cable ? There does not appear to be a subwoofer on/off option on the receiver. At this point it appears I can return it or disassemble the sub and see what I see ? And am I kidding myself this subwoofer is actually going to improve my listening pleasure with my original Heresy's ? Listening area is ~ 20' x 20'. Cheers, Don
  7. Don, I just went to your sight and you really do some beautiful work. I bet you could easily wood veneer those RF-82's and have a one of a kind pair. Bill Thanks Bill ! The speaker cabinets are black lacquered ash veneer, I doubt I'd ever get around to redoing them in a natural wood. Just like the bare foot shoe maker I'm too busy making stuff for other people [] Cheers, Don
  8. Nice shop ! Your forum name makes sense now Sorry to hear about your lab, they live such a short life as is... Cheers, Don
  9. That "thing" is a Japanese paper lamp" [] I had a commission to make a hundred wood frames and figured after all that fiddly work I should have one or two.. The "paper" is hand made by a lady that studied the craft in Japan. The frame members are 1/2" x 1/2" and the joinery is half lap mitres. 9600 cuts [] Click on my signature, it'll take you to my site where you can find a slideshow of my work. Cheers, Don PS> you never said what kind of "shop" you have to fit 6 La Scalas..
  10. Forgot to mention.. The makers of the banana plugs Should mention there is a center spike that the coated wire needs to be impaled on.. Some of us can't "see" that right away, he, he... Cheers, Don
  11. Success and thank you all very much for the recommendation. The Source had a Nextech 4-way speaker selector switch for $50. I hooked the switch to the A channel and then the Heresy's to A and RF-82 to B, the shop speakers went to the B on the receiver. That way I contol the zones with the receiver and don't need to fool with the speaker selector switch. Some tidying up needed and change the 18G bottom wires to the shop. The "shop".. Cheers, Don BTW - if anyone has any finishing/refinishing questions please feel free to contact me. For those that have little or no finishing equipment just google "Don Kondra's Secret Magic Mix" []
  12. Okay, that does it Better safe than sorry, eh ? Cheers, Don BTW - what kind of "shop" do you have that can fit 6 La Scalas [:^)]
  13. Thanks for that Bill, mustang guy and Daddy Dee ! And for the complement DD I seem to remember reading about hooking up two x two speakers in series ? Is this an option ? Cheers, Don
  14. Greetings, I really didn't think this through, sigh... Purchased a Yamaha R-S300 Receiver/Amp, two channel 50wx2 and two RF-82 Mk IV speakers. The plan was to run my Heresy's (circa 1980) in the house and the RF-82's in the shop. I made the mistake of "testing" the RF-82's in the house before installing them in the shop on elevated platforms. Long story, short. They are not going in the shop [H] Finally, my question is what is the correct way to hook up both sets to the A and leave the B for the original shop speakers ? Cheers, Don
