  1. Ray, Prior to this, I had some Boston Acoustics but not nearly the quality of the Klipsch's. The room is approx. 15' x 25' with the mains on the 15' wall slightly toed in. Listening position is dead center about 12-15' from speakers. The tone is much more noticeable at high volumes. It is more of a piercing high tone than anything else. The sound is not distorted or unnatural, it is just uncomfortable to my ears. I have tried several different receivers (Onkyo,Yamaha, etc.) with the same results. This only occurs on certain types of music where highs are accentuated. Other types of music sounds great. Thanks in advance.
  2. I have a question regarding the Klipsch horns. I have never owned Klipsch speakers and recently purchased the RF-3's. They sound great for the most part, but I notice that some highs (female vocals, screaming guitars, etc.) are a little harsh(too high) to my ears. Is this resolved after a break in period, a limitation of my receiver(Harmon/Kardon AVR-310) or is this characteristic of Klipsch speakers?
  3. As far as sound, the main thing is that the bass is not as tight as with my 10 year-old ONKYO receiver(75W) and the clarity of the music doesn't seem as good either. That is my problem, there is nothing wrong with what I am hearing, it just doesn't sound as good as I would expect it to sound. That's why I was wondering if it was my expectations or if the receiver itself was not a good match with my speaker system. As far as the sub, I have cables from the audio out of the TV into the receiver and then I am using the subwoofer output on the reciever to the sub. The sub powers up immediately with music or DVD's, but not on regular TV programming (movies,sitcoms,etc.).
  4. I purchased the Yamaha 5460 (110 W) receiver to go along with my reference series system (RF-3,RC-3,RS-3,KSW-12). It sounds ok, but not as good as I would like. I have tried various configurations and speaker placements, but I'm really not that satisified. This is especially true for music. Is this a weak receiver or do I just expect too much? If it's weak, does anyone have a recommendation on another receiver in the $500 range? Also, I also have an annoying problem with the Sub Output not triggering the sub on when I am using it for TV. This does not occur when I wire the mains through the sub. By the way, I must say this is one of the most helpful and knowledgeable sites I have come across on the web. Thanks
  5. I have heard several different answers to this question, but thought I would run it by you guys as you seem more knowledgeable than most. Which wiring method offers the tightest bass output? Using the subwoofer out on the receiver or wiring the speakers through the sub. Thanks.
  6. Does bi-wiring speakers make a noticeable difference in sound quality? In regards to this, on the RC-3 speakers, which connection is for the woofer and which is for the tweeter (top or bottom)? Which connection should get priority as far as wire quality(gauge and connection)? I have to use a bannana plug connection on one and bare wire on the other. Thanks in advance.
  7. Hey all, This probably seems like a really stupid question to many of you audiophiles, but I am kind of new to all this. Which is the correct input on the subwoofer(KSW-12) to connect the subwoofer output from the receiver? There are two inputs, one is an LFE and I'm not sure about the other. In addition, I seem to have another problem. I have the complete reference series system (RF3,RC3,etc.) and I am using a Yamaha HTR-5460 receiver. Anyway, with the subwoofer set on auto, many times the subwoofer does not power up when it should be receiving a signal. Obviously, this is a receiver problem. Any ideas? When the subwoofer does come on, the bass is weak, especially for home theater applications. Is this a limitation of the receiver? The receiver I was using is an 8 year old ONKYO and it seems far superior to the YAMAHA in home theater and especially music, but it lacks some of the features of the newer receivers. Is the Yamaha really this weak or is there something wrong with the setup? If it's the Yamaha, is there another receiver you could recommend in the $500 range? Thanks in advance for any help.
