  1. I will have a Denon 1802 receiver soon. I already have a SB audigy sound card, a ASUS 8200 geforce3 deluxe with svideo in and also a DVD (panasonic rv31k). The DVD has a svideo output which i plug on my receiver. I also have a old VHS that i plug on my receiver but the output is composite. The geforce3 came with a "converter" for composite to svideo. This is not a converter ; it just make it possible to plug a composite rca into the svideo in jack of the geforce3. So my idea is to plug the composite output of the VHS on the composite/video adapter and plug the adapter on a svideo input of the receiver. I think that the adapter just sends the composite signal on 2 of the svideo conductors. It looks like that because when i watch TV (through my VHS, on my computer monitor) in svideo mode, i see a weird monochrome image. So my question : If i plug the composite to svideo adapter on the input of the denon 1802, will it correctly transmit the composite signal through the svideo connection, to the svideo input of my graphic card? Thanks for your help! ------------------ Engage...
  2. I would also like some comments ; in my case, i lean toward the Denon (i face the same choice...) The Denon just has everything i need and more. So why would i buy the Onkyo? I did not hear any of them so i make dumb comparisons like : Denon : 24 lbs, 4.5 Amp (consumption), 670$(CAD) Onkyo : 25.4 lbs, ???Amp, 770$(CAD) ... ... ... Some say that the power output stage of the Onkyo is underdimentionned. I don't know... ------------------ Engage...
  3. Just a little off topic ; should i buy a Onkyo TXDS595 or the Denon AVR1802? They look so much alike... I have a preference for Denon because i heard that the new Onkyo have a lack of supply power... I don't know if it's true but i heard no such things for the Denon. I will drive Energy (xl-26...) or Klipsch (sf-2...) speakers with it. Does the Onkyo have a clear or mellow sound? Is it the same quality than the Denon? ------------------ Engage...
  4. Yeah, people like me! Thanks to all the Helping guys! ------------------ Engage...
  5. I just watched prices of dynaudio speakers in www.audioreview.com... Yes they are certainly excellent speakers but this is another category... This veryhi-fi... Also, Ears, I think Energy is in the beginning of the hi-fi market (or the very best of mass market?? anyway, that's a subjective idea...) My choice is almost certain now ; the store is in renovations until wednesday but then i will listen to 2 systems to finalize my purchase. The receiver will be Denon 1802. DVDrv31k dvd player panasonic. Now the speakers : 1st choice : Energy xl-26 (front), xl-16 (rear), xl-c2 (center) and xl-s12 (sub) Price made for me : 3200$CAD(2000$USD) 2nd choice : Klipsch sf-2 (front), sc-1 (center), ss-1 (surrounds) and ksw-12? or energy xl-s12... I would not mind buying a velo HGS-18 sub with Dynaudio Evidence but i don't have 100000$... yet... ------------------ Engage...
  6. So you say that velodyne and paradigm would be better than Energy for both movies and music? ------------------ Engage...
  7. Why are you unimpressed with Energy, boa? I mean, for the same price range, is there something that is really better? And go down (or almost) to 20Hz? ------------------ Engage...
  8. In fact, i'm trying to decide between the Energy s10.2 and xl-s12 ; there is just 150$CAD (100$USD) more to pass from a s10.2 to a xl-s12... I try to decide if 100$USD is well paid to lower the response from 23Hz to 20Hz, add a phase control and double the magnet weight... I'm beginning to think that the xl-s12 would be better. Even if my room is 12' by 14'... Why am i insisting on Energy? Because the only good brands sold by the stores nearby (at Cap-de-la-Madeleine, Quebec, Canada) are Klipsch and Energy (for my price range.) Klipsch were wonderful from what i heard but the fact is that i have so much sound reflective surfaces in my HT room so i fear that the Klipsch would be too harsh. And the sound from the Klipsch sub (ksw-12) seemed less powerful that that of the Energy (xl-s12.) Perhaps the demo in the store was not properly installed... Perhaps not. I don't know ; it's just that my intuition is driving me toward a complete Energy speaker set... ------------------ Engage...
  9. Did someone try the new Energy sub s10.2? How is it compared to the e:xl-s10? It's so much more beautiful than the s10 (i know that sound matters first but if the 10.2 is better, then it's all for the best!) What i ask myself is about the quality of the bass. I mean the speaker is very near the side of the sub. I read somewhere that the best place for the speaker placement in a cabinet is in the center. But i trust that Energy made their tests and calculations to provide the best bass... But i wonder all the same... And the s10.2 is 10 lbs lighter than the s10! And bigger!! It's not yet in the store (back order i think...) but if the s10.2 is really better, i'll wait a bit. Else, i could just buy directly the e:xl-s12 (which is ordinary looking but a lot of people tell me that it's very good and go down to 20Hz.) ------------------ Engage...
  10. First of all, hi to everybody here. I am quite new to the hifi world. But recently, i listened to a system that had Energy speakers and was really impressed for the price. I now plan acquiring a set of these. I have a question about Energy speakers ; about the e:xl-25 and e:xl-26. I see that they have 2 woofers. I imagine that they should be plugged in parallel if they are both driven. But in this case, would not the impedance be 1/2 of the impedance of the xl-16 (in the lowers frequencies) if they use the same woofers? The other case (where one of the woofers of the xl-26 is passive), the impedance should remain the same. If i look at the specifications given by their site, i see that they use (of they seem to use) 2 identical woofers. So that look like they have the specs and are both driven... But what about the impedance, must i use a powerful receiver to drive them? Another general question about 2 1/2 way speakers (2 woofers and 1 tweeter). If i say something wrong feel free to correct me... The 2 woofers generate the same waveforms at the same frequencies. (or do they? is there one for bass and one for midrange?) So if we look at the resultant waveform, in some places (depending upon the height i place my ear) the resultant could be 2 times in amplitude what each woofer generate while in other places, the resultant could be zero (if the waves generated superpose with a phase of 180 deg.) Is there a problem with 2 1/2 way systems (or a coloration that some people like) or is the wavelength of sounds too long for this to have an effect? (when i listened in the store, i did not hear any waveform cancellation but i did not audition the speakers for a long time and just from the "sweet spot". Thank you in advance for your comments. ------------------ Engage... This message has been edited by CaptainPicard on 11-06-2001 at 09:47 PM
