funny you should say Blue Sparkle Rogers set

As I am seting up a 60,s Blue Sparkle Rogers set for recoding in my studio . I love the sound of this set with it small kick and real wood shells ect.

Loooking on ebay for some missing parts seems like they have become collecter pieces.

Born2rock your set up is cool.

    I love recoding drums

somtimes I use 10 mics some time just one depens on the sound I am after.

I still use a old vintage Akg d12 alot on the kicks as well as senn 421, RE 20, or a old tube LCD Sounddulex u189.

The best part about recoding is palying back mixs direct of the borad to my Klipschorns before converting to red book cd .

  2. I use some old beat up Pro lascala fiberglass covered cabnets for out side use in my back yard they are set up with stock drivers and crossovers.

I just cover them at night and when it rains with a cover. been working fine for 3 years now.

I just picked up a pair of the Pro hereys with the fiberglass covering think I'll use them as my camping set up.

  3. There is a town dump in Mass were this has been found by me for free...

Mcintosh tube preamp, phase linear 400, scott 2299b,scott 220a , ev,altec jbl, klipsch speakers, marantaz amps.

turn tabkle of all makes ect ect.

    stuff at antique shops.

    58 khorn $150

    72 heresys $50]

    From this site

51 khorn in Nh for 500

    62 Heresys 400

    51 khorn 500

    First year lacsalas (63) 1000

Ebay to many to list but start at 51 khorns up to matching 58 khorn to my 58 ,59 khorns ect...

    Cornwall from 60 to 68

Heresys from 58 up to 80

  4. I have three Old phase linear lying around.

One a orig 700 was use as a pro bass bin power amp driving 4 EAW double 15 horn bass bins one one side the other side powerd the side fill moniters 4 15 with mid/high n horns. This one ran for years troulbel free. i use to unplug the speaker before shutting it down to miss the Phase linear fart.I did have it boxed with to high power box fans.

the other a 400 was use to power the mids and highs. this alos last a long long time also with fans and alway at 8 oms of more never 4 .

my last phase linear did time (about three three years ago with my 58 khorns not a bad sounding amp and it was not noisy. But this one was a near mint one bought on ebay never used pro.

I have a crown psa2 wich replace the Phase 700 a very nice amp. still use it in the studio powering altec 604b.

I buy a vintage Thrershold (mac killer)anyday over a Phase linear, now thats a real amp with warm detaild sound and priced somtime less than phase linear.

Stiill the phase linear 700b is a cool looking beast the sound of live 70,s rocking roll. Just about evry good 70,s band use them.

  5. The Yahmaha ns10 is in more studios than any other Moniter ever made. Its not that they sound great or one even like there sound but when mixing on them the mix transfer nicly to other speakers. If you can make it sound great on ns10 it will sound good anywere.

The paper over the tweetes was is still used by alot of enginers to tame the high end. I think it was only a problem on the early ns10's.

I still mix alot of stuff on ns10 as do many many others.

    My studio moniters are.

Altec Big red, Altec 604c, klipschorns, yamaha ns10 with out kleanex,Adam sa-1, cheap computer speaker no name.

  6. This is a quate that for me prety much sums up why i like the old caps...

"the oil filled units exhibit a velvety black background, rendering the transient response and harmonic integrity far more musically accurate. The lower treble harshness is eliminated, and the upper frequency harmonic structure becomes sweet and airy. The treble integrates imperceptibly with the midrange harmonic structure instead of standing out as a separate entity"

These caps that 51 kilpsch used are the rare Western Electric caps. Many fell WE were never surpassed.

Im sure somm of the late klipsch crossover may Need new caps as they are built like the We caps

  7. The Threshold amps I pick up are the s150. new in the 80s around 2500

Just like the one the music box had powering a set of khorns back in the 80s.

I do rember the music box I drooled all over there Khorns for years.

Only thing I ever bought from them is my trust old threshold fet 1 preamp It really has'nt been turned off since I bought it in the early eights.I maxed out my first credit card buying that .

  8. I use Pris Esoniq pro recoding daw to recoded my anolog

    to digital.

Thorens table with ininity arm ortofon cart to

Threshold fet 1 preamp with nice phone gain stage to

Paris 24 bit converters to paris 25 bit .

I then burn both 24 bit cd to play back in paris through my klipschorns very nice high end sound way beter than cd.

i also recode the same set up but in 16 for standard cds

for the car or even the I[pod full res Aiff files.

  9. In one word try THRESHOLD .

Killer deals on ebay on the old built like tanks Status series.

Very nice tight low end with a smooth mid range to die for.

    makes my 58 khorns smile.

The music box the no none klipsch dealer in new england back in the day.

Loved threshold and picked it over mac and levinson which they both sold.Mr Bell told me he like the sound of threshold over any of his old mac and Marantz amp back in the mid 90,s. Boy even Nakamichi back when they were king used Threshold status design fot there high end amps.

Rember Vintage Threshold is all Pass designed.

I just picked up two threshold amps on ebay cheap for around 600 each in mint condition.
