  1. Does the sub have to be Klipsch? Are you planning on buying to use it overseas? There are better subs for the money than the Klipsch if you can wait until you get back to the States. Mahalo for your service and stay safe.
  2. Are you serious? Not really, but some of the support thrown out to the OP seemed a little bleeding heart IMO.
  3. For all those in support of the OP, none of you can't seriously say that after reading his "story", which the version here and the version at AVS are not the same, didn't think that this might be a scam? And if it isn't a scam and the OP has a "demanding" career, one would think that he would also be smart enough to track his $3K. Or was it his GF's 3K, cause I'm confused. It was his CC but his GF "bought" them, or was it his GF's CC? Who knows? In the end, it's up to the OP to pursue the issue, not SVS. SVS did their part, got a signed delivery notification. As far as they are concerned the subs were delivered. It's up to the OP to prove they weren't. That might suck, but that's the way it is. All ya'll are liberals, right?
  4. Seriously? You didn't know the subs were "delivered" for a week after the fact? $3000 worth of gear and you don't have email notifications or even bother to monitor the tracking? Good morning ladies said the blind man as he walked past the fish market.
  5. Get a sub or subs first. Even a $300 AVR works well with Klipsch. I know. I have one.
  6. That should be nice. But like others have said, maybe step down the sides and rears to save money towards the sub. Of course if your getting the SW115 for $300 or so, you can't beat it at that price. It may not be the most articulate or detailed for music, but has good output and digs pretty deep. You could see how it works for you then possibly add another sub down the road if needed. Good luck and enjoy your system.
  7. I run my system off of 45 watts/channel and it will blow me out of the room. The e300 should be plenty unless you like to listen beyond reference volume. My room is about the same size- 13x14x9.
  8. Do you already have a sub? If not that is where I would put most of the money. Get an AVR for around $300 and spend the rest or more on a good sub if you don't already have one. For the AVRs the lowest end new Denon that has pre-outs is the X4000. You should be able to find it new for around $1000. IMO you won't need external amps. Your seating position is close enough that any decent AVR will drive those speakers to very loud levels. I run 50 watts/channel and have yet to come close to wanting or needing more power.
  9. Thanks. I'm thinking it must be a cancellation issue. The reason it wasn't noticeable with the 52s was because they just didn't have near the bass the 62s do. I've been listening to music this afternoon with no sub and the 62s sound great in stereo, where the 52s didn't. It's easy to turn the sub on and off via the AVR so for most music I'll probably run them without the sub. For my metal I'll bring the sub back in though.
  10. With the sub set to LR +LFE the sub is getting everything and the LR are also getting the full range signal. I can tell the sub is working but there just isn't as much bass as there is when the LR are set to small or crossed over. It does sound really good set to small. Sub is up front and phase set to zero. Thanks
  11. I do have a question on the bass. Hopefully you'll read this. Anyway, with the 52s when I ran them full range and the sub set to what is essentially double bass, they had a little more punch then when I went with them crossed over. I like a 100hz in my system and actually like 120 for the center and surrounds. Anyway the 52s sounded better full range. So I tried the 62s that way and noticed a lack of bass (relatively speaking). So I set a 100hz crossover and and BOOM! There was the bass. What is happening when running them full range and double bass? Is there some type of cancellation going on? I watched Pacific Rim last night and at only -20db I had a wall of sound coming at me(us) with a ton of bass (sub on of course). Why do I get more bass with the 62s set to small? It wasn't this way with the 52s. Thanks.
  12. I have them in the same location as the 52s were in. Maybe if I A/B'd them I would have been able to tell, but I boxed the 52s up for return on Monday. I'm sure they have a bigger sound but without a back to back I just can't tell. I know they have a lot more oomph and like I mentioned a ton more bass. I still have to mess around with running them large or with a crossover. Thanks for the help so far.
  13. My 62s arrived this morning. Took a long lunch to pick them up and put in place of the 52s. Only had time to listen to parts of a few different songs. Can't say if they sound fuller or bigger than the 52s but they do have a LOT more bass. These could be run without a sub for most music with no problem. Will be watching Pacific Rim tonight, maybe Monster's University on Saturday.
  14. White House Down. The plot, plot devices and story were far less believable than even Pacific Rim . What a stupid, stupid movie. Even more inconceivable than OHF. 1 star on the story. Idiotic. 3.5 on the sound. Video I don't really pay that much attention to. As long as it looks good to me. A few decent bass scenes, overall decent mix, nothing stood out good or bad. Will be renting Pacific Rim this Friday. I saw it in 3D at the theater when first released so hopefully the 2d blu-ray won't be quite as dark. Oh, and my RF62s should be in, so a nice way to test them out.
  15. I remember back in 81 when stationed at Little Rock AFB, I went to a high end audio store (remember those? ) Anyway I can still remember the shock and awe of standing in front of a pair or Klipschhorns (the corner ones) and seeing and feeling my pants being moved from the bass coming out of those beautiful speakers. I think they were being driven by a 200 watt McIntosh amp. Quite a few guys I knew had Heresies. You could hear them all over the "dorm". I wanted a pair but alas was too poor.
  16. Update as to the perceived lack of bass I mentioned. I did a little listening last night to some music that I knew was bass heavy- Sade Soldier of Love CD. With the sub off there was definitely some pretty decent bass and it sounded like it went pretty deep. So I do believe that the speakers have the bass they're supposed to. I guess I was so used to having my sub in the mix where even at low volumes there is a good amount of bass I became spoiled. Since my AVR doesn't have any loudness, Dynamic EQ or Dolby volume, unless I have the system volume up to -30db or more I don't get a lot of perceptible bass. Just glad that it's there, phew! I feel better now. Looks like my RF62s won't be in until next Monday or Tuesday. Not a problem since I can keep my 52s until then.
  17. Unfortunately, that's not practical in all applications. I watch Blurays on the projector but wouldn't watch TV on it. Next spring I'll upgrade my 720p 50-inch to something in the 60-65 inch class. Just an FYI Walmart is going to have the Vizio 70" on sale for $996 for black Friday in case you're interested.
  18. Will do. The RC-500 has to stay though. Even if I wanted to spend the money the 62 would crush my center stage speaker bracket. The 500 was a LOT heavier then I was expecting. It's a precarious perch for sure. One day I'll either wall mount the TV or replace it with a projector and screen but for now it will have to do. I was and am seriously impressed with the RC-500. Never would've have thought the biggest improvement would come from the center. Just like when I upgraded my sub, I can now understand that the center is another area where you don't want to skimp. Maybe one day I'll have a projector, RF7s and a RC-64. It is only money after all.
  19. Thanks for the tips/advice. The sub is working full time for sure. It's getting the full range signal plus the LFE and the towers are getting the full range signal (for now). I wanted to see if I could get a little more punch that I was wanting for music. I did very briefly try a 100hz crossover and thought that it sounded better with the speakers set to full range. I will continue to experiment with the crossover though. As for not much bass, I ran them with the sub set to no and the speakers as large (as they would default to) and there just wasn't a lot there. And they are about a foot off the wall. I might play with the crossover some more. My AVR is a HK 1600 and the EZsetEQ as far as I can tell only sets distance and levels. I can' tell that it does any actual "EQing" so I don't use it. Based on my listening and the volume I'm getting I'm not currently in need of any additional headroom, which given my modest AVR power speaks volumes (pun intended ) about the Klipsch speakers. My other speakers are from the "new" "old" re-released reference version 1s. The reason I went with them was cost. The RC-500 was $90 less than the RC-52 and the RS-400s were $140 less per speaker (half price) than the RS-42s. I checked the Klipsch website and the listed specs were identical between the two. Crossover frequencies, weight, size etc... Perhaps there was some small internal change though and the woofers are slightly different looking. The center and towers match seamlessly. Hopefully that continues with the 62s. So I called Crutchfield and inquired about an exchange for the 62s. They were awesome! They are going to send me a pair of the 62s for the difference in price and then credit my account when I send the 52s back. So now I won't be without my towers while waiting for my 52s to get back before shipping out my 62s. Very, very happy with Crutchfield customer service. Hopefully the 62s will be here by Friday. Mahalo nui loa for all the great help and advice.
  20. I've have my new system set up for the last 5 days and got to do a decent amount of listening over the weekend. So here goes my brief opinion of the system, Pair of RF52II, RC-500, pair of RS-400, sub I've had for a few months a SVS PC-12+ First the speakers look very nice and have a nice solid feel and seem to be well built. I like the cherry finish better. First thing I noticed was how much more efficient they are than my NHT Superzeros. Easily 7-8dbs based on the volume settings on my AVR. For music I like them much more than I thought I would. This is one area that had me worried a little since the last time I heard some Klipsch references was a couple of years ago at an audio store (not BB) and I remember not liking them that much and thought they were harsh. Must have been the setup and the room because I don't find them to be the least bit harsh. They are forward for sure, but have great detail and the sound stage is much deeper than it was with the NHTs. I noticed a very slight sibilance on some vocals, but this was at volumes I normally would not be listening to for any amount of time. I tried the RFs without the sub to check the bass output. Pretty disappointing actually. I can't ever see these speakers putting out anything of substance below 60hz. Don't know how Klipsch arrived at 35hz as the lower +-3db point. Overall for music (with the sub) they are great. They play very loud with just my 50 watt/channel AVR without distortion. They have added some needed punch to my rock music. Pretty pleased with them for music. For movies I watched White House Down. I won't go into the absurdities of this movie, but it did give me chance to see how the whole system sounded. Again, the Klipsch are super efficient compared to the NHTs. I listened to this movie at -18db (which was loud in my room) compared to before at -10db or more. The first big WOW moment was as soon as the movie dialogue started. The RC-500 was AMAZING. This was by far the biggest improvement in movie/TV of the whole new setup. What huge difference this center made. I don't have to struggle with dialogue anymore. Even when the action if heavy and the sub and mains are cranking I can hear the dialogue. Like I said, by far the biggest improvement in the sound. As for the mains I didn't notice "that" much difference. I'm running the speakers as large and the sub to LR plus LFE so the speakers should be doubling up on the non LFE bass, but I just didn't notice much. I did get the extra punch I was wanting for sounds like gunshots and the like. As for the surrounds, I didn't notice much difference from the Superzeros I had. There may have been some extra detail at times and perhaps a little more volume. Maybe it was the movie(s) we watched didn't make as much use of the surrounds. Although we watched Avatar too. Overall I'm pretty satisfied, but one thing other thing (besides the lack of bass) and this may be related is the actual size of the woofers. Measured from the surrounds they barely make 4.5" and the cone area itself is under 4". A far cry from 5.25". I decided to measure because I had my Superzeros setup along side the towers for some A/B testing and noticed that the 4" drivers looked to be the same size as the "supposed" 5.25" of the Klipsch. And measuring both, they are essentially the same size. I may take the advice some hear gave me and upgrade to the 62s to see if I can get more bass. Maybe then I'll get 5.25" drivers.
  21. I tried running the speakers as large with the sub set to LR +LFE so the sub is also getting the full range signal and with a crossover of 100hz and I had a hard time telling the difference. If anything I slightly preferred the speakers set to large. I seemed to get just a little more punch on some music. I'm going to be watching White House Down tonight and I'll see how it goes. I realize that the speakers on their own cannot pickup for the sub, but since I'm running the sub too, it seems to work OK. I'll keep playing with it though. I'm sure it will take some time and trials to find what I like best. Thanks for the help.
  22. Speakers came in yesterday. Didn't get home till about 1830 so not much time to do anything. But I did unpack the RF52s. They seem really well built. Very heavy for the size. The cherry vinyl looks much better in person than in the stock photos. Also speakers are very nice looking with the grills off. I did manage to set them in place and listened to a little music after everyone else went to bed so everything was done quietly. Even at low volumes they sounded nice. Definitely a hotter top end than my SZs but at low volumes it made them sound better than SZs. One thing that immediately stood out and surprised me was when I listened to my first tune at my AVR's start up volume of -42db, was that they were MUCH louder than my SZs. I normally would have had to go to about -35db to get that volume, maybe more. I guess that's where the Klipsch efficiency comes in compared to the SZs which are rated at 85db. Seems about right. I did have to bump up the sub some to compensate. I'll know more tonight when I get a chance to crank the music and maybe a few blu-ray demo scenes to where I need to set the sub and the speakers as far as +- dbs. I unboxed the RC-500 this morning and put it into place. Again, it's much heavier and larger than I thought it would be. Nice build quality. The black vinyl definitely doesn't look as nice as the cherry. I wonder why the cherry didn't sell well? So I put it on top the TV on the centerstage bracket it didn't collapse or cause the TV to fall over so that's good. Seems huge in the room since I'm used to a SZ laid over on its side for a center. Had about 2 minutes to watch some tv. Voices sounded nice. I have the 52s set to large with the sub set to LR +LFE just for kicks. I'll see how it sounds with a crossover later. I liked 120hz for when I had my SZs. I might leave it at 120 for the center and surrounds since my sub has so much output at the frequency. I still need to mount the RS-400s. Again heavier and built better than I thought they would be. Overall really impressed with the build quality for the price. My messy room and crappy iPhone photo. That's with the lights on all the way. Dark brown paint and carpet suck in all the light. I was left of center to take the pick so I could get a shot of the sub in there. How does the toe in look? Thanks
  23. I do if watching by myself or with my wife, but we have a family movie night with the 2 kids. So they sit on the right side, my wife and I sit on the left side and I sit on the far left because that's where the end table is and the end table is where my beer is. Family movie night is when most of the good movie watching occurs, new releases, action movies etc.... It hasn't been an issue with movies. Heck I watched a whole movie one time in stereo and never realized it. The SuperZeros image quite well. I'm hoping for the same from the Klipsch but with more oomph.
  24. No not confusing. That would place the crossover of the left and right speaker just behind the MLP. I'll give that a shot to start with. I listen to music dead center but watch movies in the left seat of a 4 person sofa. Thanks
  25. A quick question on toe in. What would be a good starting point. I've heard conflicting advice. Some say to toe in so that the tweeters cross just in front of the main LP others say so that each speaker points at your ear and others have said little to no toe in since the speakers have such a wide soundstage. When watching movies and TV I sit pretty much inline with the left speaker. It has not been an issue with my NHTs which have a very slight toe in. Thanks
