  1. I went with a pair of RS-42's I found on ebay from as fate would have it, a seller in Kentucky! Really happy with how the room sounds. I'll need to resist the urge to update/upgrade my sub, at least for a few months Thanks to all for their advice
  2. I just got Queen's 30th anniversary edition of Night at the Opera. The DTS mix sounds exactly like I wanted it to sound (in my head) back in the day. If you like his stuff, there are several excellent Peter Gabriel releases on DVD (Growin' Up tour - amazing DTS mix) Blu-ray (Live in Athens - Great show) and his solo studio albums were released in SACD but good luck finding them for a "decent" price. Another acquired taste is Steven Wilson who's music is difficult to pin down. Regardless he is a master mixer/recording engineer. His band, Porcupine Tree, and his solo stuff sounds amazing in surround. He also did some of the recent mixes for Yes, Jethro Tull, ELP, and King Crimson. Lastly, Tom Petty's last few records were released on Blu-Ray and sound great. He also released Damn the Torpedo's on Blu-ray. I hope he will get around to releasing some of his other stuff as well. Listening to most of the DVD-A, SACD and Blu-ray Audio discs is far more satisfying (for me) then all but a few (well recorded) CD's. Collecting them is a fun hobby, but too expensive.
  3. I am in Versailles, KY just west of Lexington and about 45 minutes east of Louisville. I didn't realize the 25's were that big! I like your idea about getting rb-51's and trying some sort of acoustic treatment to handle the rear port issue. Anyone else tried this approach? Thanks DLDukes
  4. I don't know how well the RS-42's would work in a bookshelf but if that is the route you are considering, I will be putting up for sale(shameless solicitation ) a pair of RS-52's in about a week. I am on vacation in Asheville, NC and wont be back until 8/8. With the 52's you would have all 5.25" drivers all around. Just a thought. Enjoy your setup. Bill Thanks for the welcome folks, my room is troublesome when it comes to placement. I can really only put the surrounds in the bookshelves. No place for stands and the wife wouldn't Stand for it. Why do you think the RS speakers might not work? I'd love to match the front with RS-52's but I'd hate to give up the book space, that is why I had considered the 42's. Still when you're ready to sell, give me a shout. Thanks again, DLDukes
  5. I currently have a 5.1 setup. I am updating my original 15 year old Quintets. I have purchased a pair of RB-51's and an RC-52 for my LRC for @$300 used and am beyond thrilled. I am looking now to replace the back surround Quintets and originally looked to another pair of RB-51's, but because I would be putting them in actual bookshelves it looks like I need something front ported. So I've been looking for a pair RS-42's but am finding them hard to find and just out of my budget. I am in Kentucky and there is a Klipsch shop in New Albany IN (just west of Louisville) that has a nice looking pair of RB-25's for $200. I have heard good things about the 25's and see they are front ported. Any thoughts on how they would match up with my front end? Also on replacing the KSW-10 subwoofer, I just read good things about the Hsu VTF-1 MK2 for $459, any other thoughts on options in that price range? Many Thanks DLDukes
  6. Great advice. I have an excellent source player and one of the best displays ever made, I need to get serious with the speakers I place with them. I'll take a harder look at the bookshelf options out there. Many Thanks D
  7. No issues, at all, and that is the problem. UpGrade-itus. I currently use an Oppo-83 and am thinking hard about selling it and buying the 103 or 103D. But the little voice in my head says "You should spend your money on speakers next". I've updated/upgraded everything else (at least once) since '00. Thanks for your thoughts. I set my center in the middle of my 5080 (Kuro - similar to your LR setup?) on the TV's stand and don't have but an inch or two before I'm invading PQ heaven (to each, his own). I'd assumed that most other centers will be too big. I will look into the rb, rc, and rs 40's. Should be fun to dream. Thanks again.
  8. I’ve owned a set of the original Quintet’s now for 14 years! I’ve really enjoyed them, but it's past time for an update/upgrade. The layout and size restrictions of my room make these speakers a good fit for us. As much as I might want to, I don’t think I can upgrade to larger speakers. I’m thinking about buying the latest Quintet set (v5) minus a subwoofer. I think I’ll stay with my existing ksw10. I’d love to hear from any v5 owners. Also, a question on the v5’s, No Stands? All the pictures I’ve seen don’t show stands and only talk about how easily wall mounted they are. I don’t mount mine, the original stands work perfectly on my book shelves and TV stand. I'm not sure how I'd like them without a similar stand to the originals. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks
