  1. Beck is one of those fine talents I've only paid marginal attention to over the years, but at least he's gotten some recognition for it. There are any number of really good musicians out there with great skills but little recognition because they're not 'front' men. James Burton comes to mind (lead guitar for Elvis and others back when). One of the better keyboard guys (Hammond player) I've heard in recent years plays with Stephen Stills and (when together) Crosby, Stills &Nash. Darned if I can think of his name right now, but he's excellent. Another is Jerry Douglas (Dobro) who often plays with Allison Krause.

Debates/discussion over 'who's best' almost always leave out many of the best.

  2. Mornin' all. I was mostly MIA yesterday ... finally caught a small break on some outdoor projects. Sorry I missed the toaster competition. Wasn't 'Burnt Toast' the name of a group in the late '60s?

Limited in my projects today with more rain on the way. Just itching to start painting after dispensing what feels like 5k lbs of caulk around the house. Oh well. We'll be bitching about the lack of moisture and our water bills in 6 weeks or so.

Try to check back in a bit. Cheers (and esp to the toaster winner).

  3. Southern Colorado/Northern NM are great. We frequently travel that way since it's both close and fabulous. Telluride and places like that have gotten expensive not only because of the skiing but also because a bunch of "celebrities" have discovered them and have driven up prices. Wish they'd go away! Have a great trip.

  4. I picked up a pair of II's a couple years ago for $300 but prices seem to be going up a bit, esp with upgrades. On the other hand, $600 is to much when I could pick up Cornwalls in that price range, and $1000 and up is just silly when I could be looking at Cornwalls, used LaScalas or new Heresy's for that price or a couple hundred more.

  5. Happy Monday all. Hope the weekend was good to you. We finished up the day with mesquite grilled ribeyes (her favorite) and the Jude Law movie 'Black Sea." Fine movie.

Carl, thanks to you and the other mods for keeping this a fairly peaceful and civil place. Obviously not an easy task at times. It is appreciated.

    Cheers guys! Later.

  6. I've been off the wheat (gluten free and low carb) for almost a year now and have lost about 55 lbs. It took some persuading but once I got there I could actually stick with it. More of a lifestyle thing than a diet. Pretty much along the lines of the book 'Wheat Belly' and the excellent cookbook with the same name (I think). May help to point out that I do NOT like most forms of exercise other than walking the dog or cutting the grass. If you like to hit the gym that's great, but a lot of progress can be made without it. We eat well and do not miss the carbs, sugar, etc. Never thought I'd say that. Best of luck.

  7. And Jake just now added "if you think you need to tell the world what you had for breakfast you may as well let them know I had dry food with canned food mashed in and green beans on top".

    Okay Jake......everyone now knows

Baxter said "I'll get the same kind of crap while they're chowing on ribeyes!" He wants to start a union with Jake and picket for ribeyes. :P

  8. Happy Mom's day to any moms checking in to C&C.

Mark, if you want to drop by Colorado, we have some snow to donate to the cause. Yep, snow. About 4 or 5 inches of it in our area. Hope all the plants survive. Should be melted soon.

Lost my mom abut 5 years ago but will celebrate the day with my better half. We have one kid locally and my daughter in Germany (one little one and another on the way). Will do some mesquite grilled ribeyes this evening. Life is good and as it should be.

    Cheers, guys.

  9. Will second Mark's comments. Peace and goodwill. We had some snow in Colorado but it should melt very soon and we'll get back to something resembling spring.

  10. Welcome. CWIII's are fine speakers. We've had them in our 2 ch system for a few years now and are quite pleased with them. You mentioned Marantz ..... it generally pairs very well with Klipsch. Post often and let us know how you're progressing.

  11. Mornin' all. Our delightful weather continues and I can hear the grass laughing at me as it grows by leaps and bounds knowing that I am powerless to stop it. I will get my revenge maybe next Tuesday or so. At least the crummy weather is keeping me off the ladder for home improvement projects this weekend.

Chuck .... that salmon sounds good. Do you ever cook it on a wood plank? (Like cedar, alder, etc.) Not hard to do and it turns out really good. If you haven't tried it, I can provide a few pointers.

Gotta get some Mother's Day stuff done so will try to check back later. Cheers to ya'll.

  12. Our grass needs a good cutting and, of course, it's raining and some snow is possible on Mother's Day. ##!!@!! Reminds me of May about 10 years ago. Had to drive from Grand Junction on the western slope back to Denver. Ignored the warning signs and got caught up in a white out on the Vail Pass. Fortunately I was in my old, trusty Pathfinder (with real 4WD) and followed a trucker who knew the pass better than I did. It was just raining a little when I got down in the Denver area. Springtime in the Rockies, eh?

Have a great weekend, all and cheers.

  13. In addition to poor packing, as Moray suggests, I thinks what's up with UPS is a company that doesn't give a hoot about its customers along with some poorly trained employees who share the same attitude. Darn shame. I avoid UPS wherever possible.

  14. Mornin' all. Probably a slow day but we'll see. Having lunch with my niece which is great since my own kid lives so far away. May be playing some tunes with my guitar buddy this afternoon. That's always fun and a learning opportunity for me since he's been an accomplished pro and I'm truly an amateur. Still waiting for a break in the crappy weather so I get get on our outdoor projects. Sorta like being all dressed up with no place to go!

Mark ... that was a really nice gesture. Helping others is where it's at in this life. Later guys .........

  15. What a week here!   Will miss my bud Steve     Just a couple of thoughts......

We started this thread 389 pages ago and I am most proud that there hasn't been one hostile word exchanged among the regulars or visitors here.  Yes I know we don't discuss earth shattering topics and nothing very controversial here. I know more about each one of you from our time here together.  I know about Joe's move to NC, Gary's work on organs, Carl's martinis, Chuck's music and his new buddy Baxter,  MKP's auto shop, Brian's quips and hot sauce, dtels adventures, duder's music, JL's humor, Sancho's brevity, and Mark's passions.  Taz and BigStewMan popped in from time to time and were always entertaining.

We even stay on topic once in awhile but we consider that just an aberration and quickly go off on a dozen tangents.  I love it.... like a Cheer's bar where everyone knows your name.  JB started a thread long ago "3 Minutes To Miller Time" that was similar and a good place to hang out.  Mark now has his Scotch and Cigar thread, and Tigerman is continuing Boxx's work in RTM.  It's all great fun.

So where is he going with all this?  No where really....just saying I enjoy hearing from each of you and sharing my morning coffee with some fine folks.

    As always.......

    Cheers Ladies :emotion-44: and Gents

What a nice tribute to a great thread. Couldn't have expressed it as well. It's about the fellowship. Thanks, Chuck.

  16. Mornin' everybody. Pretty much business as usual here as well. Nothing but rain in the forecast so outdoor projects on hold. Making plans for a couple of summer trips, one of which is to see the kids in Germany one more time before they transfer out. Fun but really expensive.

2 cups down and gotta run. Later ............. and cheers.

  17. Hey guys ... happy Sunday. Enjoy it. Heading for Denver's gorgeous Botanic Gardens with better half. This will be a marked improvement over yesterday which was mostly spent on a ladder prepping the overhang on our covered patio for painting. Surprised I didn't get carpel tunnel from the **@!!'ing caulk gun.

    Cheers. Back tomorrow.

  18. There have been a number of threads in which I wanted to participate but did not because of the nasty level of personal comments made by a few members. I won't subject myself to that kind of B.S. If an individual can't be locked from that kind of thread, the mods don't have much choice but to lock the thread itself .....that is if this is to remain a civilized forum. Darn shame that a few can't or won't tolerate differing opinions.
